Shang Duan Hua didn’t chase after Da Tian Ting. He was happy Da Tian Ting ended their engagement. It meant he would inherit his dad’s company, and marry Da Ming Sheng.
Da Ming Sheng was happy too. But she maintained her innocent act.
‘Duan Hua, shouldn’t you chase after big sister?’ Da Ming Sheng asked.
‘What’s the point?’ Shang Duan Hua asked. ‘It’s better this way. I wish I had asked her to end the engagement sooner.’
Shang Duan Hua cast Da Tian Ting out of his mind. He kissed Da Ming Sheng’s lips to celebrate his freedom.
‘What do we do if something happens to big sister?’ Da Ming Sheng asked.
Shang Duan Hua walked to the door.
‘Do you want me to chase after her?’ Shang Duan Hua joked.
Da Ming Sheng held onto Shang Duan Hua’s arm.
‘No,’ Da Ming Sheng said.
Da Ming Sheng secretly schemed to steal Shang Duan Hua from Da Tian Ting since she was a little girl. She was happy Da Tian Ting gave her an opportunity to marry Shang Duan Hua.
A small part of Shang Duan Hua’s heart felt guilty toward Da Tian Ting. He hated her, but they grew up together. He chose not to chase after her, because he wanted to start a new life.
Outside the apartment building, Da Tian Ting ran and occasionally looked back to see if Shang Duan Hua chased after her. There were no signs of his shadow. She slowed down her steps, and felt like a soulless sh.e.l.l wandering the streets.
The happy couples around Da Tian Ting made her feel like they were mocking her torn heart.
Da Tian Ting felt numb like a lost child who didn’t know where their home was.
Da Tian Ting walked into a random bar. People say alcohol helped to forget sorrows. She wanted to know if alcohol could help her forget ten years of lies.
The bar wasn’t crowded in the middle of the afternoon. There were two men sitting at a window table. They looked like they were having a catch up.
Da Tian Ting chose to sit at an empty table, and a waiter served her.
‘Miss, do you want to order something to eat or drink?’ the waiter asked.
‘Give me the strongest wine,’ Da Tian Ting said. ‘I’m here to drink away my sorrows.’
‘Miss, it’s not safe for you to be drunk on your own,’ the waiter said. ‘Why don’t you call your friends to keep you company?’
‘Does this bar have a policy that doesn’t serve drinks to customers who come on their own?’ Da Tian Ting asked.
