David leaned back in his chair, his breathing was even, his body was relaxed, the man was confident in his decision as if something was moving him in the right direction.
After three beeps, the subscriber on the other side of the phone picked up the phone, "Mr. Anderson, did you decide to honor me with your attention?" the voice of Marcus sounded firm.
"Do not think too highly of yourself when you leave me no choice. You yourself have created such conditions that I had no choice but to call you."
"Well, I will not argue, you are right about that. But don't you think, my young friend, that the tone of your speech should be more polite when you are about to ask someone for help."
David clenched his fist, Daniel did not miss the moment to notice how his brother's face frowned while talking with Marcus. "I'm calling about Elena, something happened to her, and I want to find out if you can help figure out what's wrong with her condition," David went straight to the point.
Marcus fell silent for a moment, and then answered, "No problem."
"Just let me finish my hot dog, I was about to have a bite."
The phone slipped out of David's hand, Daniel jumped up and nearly fell along with a chair in surprise, Marcus was standing opposite them in the living room and chewing his hot dog as if nothing had happened.
"What the h.e.l.l are you doing? How did you get in here?" Daniel wanted to explode with anger, and it is fair to say that anybody in his shoes would have been shocked if a person materialized before his eyes, whom you would not be very glad to see, and even without an invitation.
"What do you mean? Of course, I teleported here. Are you still surprised by such things?" Marcus looked at Daniel as an aborigine, who saw the plane for the first time, "Your brother called and asked for help, I was free, so why waste time if it is possible to solve the case right away?" The man pushed back his chair, sat down at the table, took one of the cups and poured himself some tea.
"I do not like to eat just dry food. By the way, where is sugar? How can you even drink tea which is not sweet?" If guests were usually offered to feel like home, then this was clearly not about Marcus.
If a random person saw this picture, he would have doubted which of these three was a guest.
David a.s.sumed that the impudence and arrogance of Marcus knew no bounds, but even he did not expect this man to lack complexes to such an extent.
"I won't even ask how you found out that I'm at home and how did you even think of appearing without an invitation," David realized the meaninglessness of these questions and continued to drink his coffee as if nothing had happened.
"Shouldn't you be glad about such promptness? Marcus Taubert himself appeared at your first call and is ready to solve your problem. My modest person pays such attention to very few people," the man threw the remnants of a hot dog into his mouth and brought a cup of tea to his lips.
"G.o.d, you obviously have something wrong with your head. Are you always like that?" Daniel asked with genuine interest. Although he knew about Marcus only from the words of David and Armand and didn't communicate with him personally, even his many years of experience in a.n.a.lyzing human behavior and hypnosis perplexed the man when he looked at this creature, sitting opposite and relaxing, drinking tea as if at his own home.
"Boy, if you had lived as long as I lived, such ordinary things would not have even bothered you. What should I be ashamed of or worry about when the whole world is in my hands? And, don't forget, this is real, not figurative," Marcus grinned. This phrase alone was enough to demonstrate on which side the ball was.
'Now the idea of creating a serum against him does not seem so absurd to me. We must try and make sure that he completely loses his strength. Eh, if he weren't Armand's brother, I wouldn't hesitate to go further,' Daniel did not respond to Marcus's comment, and instead began to think about how best to implement their crazy plan.
"I suppose your wife started having trouble sleeping? More precisely, with awakening from sleep, right?" Marcus took a cookie from a plate and dipped it in tea.
"How do you know that? Just don't say that you even follow our personal lives," David wrinkled his nose, he hoped that this man was not so short and tactless as to get so deep into his personal affairs.
"Relax, I have enough important things besides you," Marcus dismissed the baseless attack and settled down more comfortably in his chair, "But judging by your reaction, I'm right. Well, sooner or later, this was about to happen."
"So you want to say that Elena's condition has some reason?"
"If you have not forgotten, the blood of an unusual family is flowing through the veins of your dear wife, and what is happening to her at the moment is the result of this connection," Marcus said, "Let's just say that the powers of the Teser family are waking up in her. This usually happens in childhood or early adolescence, but this stubborn woman...," the man took a deep breath as if he needed extra strength when he mentioned that person,
"In general, Amelia sealed the powers of Elena so that this would not create additional problems when not necessary."
"Did Amelia herself tell this to you?" David raised an eyebrow, Marcus's words sounded quite plausible and logical, but the man doubted that Amelia would have shared such important information just like that, "Or did you force her to tell you about this?"
Marcus dropped a sly glance at David and instead of answering only smiled mysteriously, "It's a secret. So think what you like. I can add only one thing, when Amelia went through this, there was a case that she did not wake up for two weeks. So if your wife slept for a week or two, then that's okay."
"And if... if longer?" David said with caution and Marcus's gaze intensified the man's inner anxiety.
"What do you mean by 'longer'?" Marcus asked, his face expressing a genuine misunderstanding.
David sighed and rubbed his temples to relieve the tension, "A month, more precisely a month and a half. Elena has not regained consciousness for a month and a half."
At this moment, he did not expect to see such a storm of emotions on the face of Marcus. Surprise gave way to confusion, which was soon eclipsed by obvious rage.
Taubert jumped up, his eyes blackened, Marcus scanned the s.p.a.ce with his eyes and, finding the necessary object, disappeared into the air.
"What the heck?!"
There was only one thing David heard when he teleported to Elena's room, and he found Marcus leaning over the woman's bed.
Taubert emanated a murderous aura as if he were a beast, ready to tear everyone and everything around. Marcus turned around and looked at David with hatred.
'Maybe calling him wasn't such a good idea,' David swallowed and instinctively clenched his fists, ready to attack.
