Next to the hotel was a semi-open-air grilled fish restaurant with wooden tables and chairs which were a bit on the short side. Yao Jinxi chose a seat on the outer side as he said, “We’ll be driving later, so no alcohol. How about some soy milk?”

Wu Yang went along with whatever Yao Jinxi decided. After choosing the dishes, the owner and waitstaff were too busy to attend to them, so Wu Yang got up and went to place the order himself.

Sitting alone, Yao Jinxi looked around, feeling bored. Accidentally, he made eye contact with the girl next to him.

Wu Yang’s eyes carried a teasing look, “Do you appreciate that?” Innocently raising his hands, Yao Jinxi picked up a wooden teacup and took a sip of tea. “I appreciate more the type that looks calm but can directly sweep people away.”

This comment visibly pleased Wu Yang. His half-smiling, slightly squinted eyes resembled an elegant and alert cat, who now thoroughly enjoyed being stroked.

Yao Jinxi couldn’t help but agree with the evaluation that ‘Xia Ruonan is very good at grasping the key points.’

Grilling fish took some time. And when it was finally served after more than ten minutes, it tasted really good. Seeing that Yao Jinxi liked the dried grilled fish, Wu Yang even took the initiative to pack a few skewers for him to nibble on during their journey.

“Do you know?” Yao Jinxi, feeling somewhat helpless, used his fingertips to gently stroke Wu Yang’s lightly coloured lips, “Even though I’ve heard you say such things many times, every time you say them, I can’t help but want to kiss you.”

Wu Yang smirked, “Very well. Please continue to feel that way.”

Smiling and shaking his head, Yao Jinxi withdrew his hand and continued to munch on the cookies.

Not all parts of Lijiang exuded an ancient charm. Besides the ancient town, there were areas that displayed a modern urban appearance. Lijiang’s elevation was higher than that of Lugu Lake, with bright evening stars scattered across the night sky.

Self-driving was convenient. But finding a place to park was troublesome, especially since motor vehicles were prohibited from entering the ancient town of Lijiang. Truly letting go of the rush of travel, Yao Jinxi understood why so many people were willing to come all the way here, visiting this city blessed by time. It was like entering a dream. A dream filled with crimson shadows and flowing waters. It was as if it were the city’s murmurs that accompanied every pa.s.serby as they pa.s.sed the lanterns, pa.s.sed the small bridges, pa.s.sed the others, and pa.s.sed oneself.

In such a place and moment, they couldn’t bring themselves to take photos. They followed the bustling crowd, slowly moving along the streets. Standing at the crossroads and looking up, the layers of eaves extended continuously to the boundary between earth and sky. It left one seemingly unaware of where they were or what their purpose was.

After having dinner at a restaurant near the large water wheel, they strolled back into the streets, never expecting to encounter familiar faces there.

“Hey, hey, hey!” A girl’s excited voice rang out, swiftly approaching. When it reached them, Yao Jinxi realised that it was directed at him.

“I knew it! We would definitely run into each other again.” w.a.n.g Juan, dragging Zhou Ling, quickly walked up to them. “Oh, what a coincidence!”

“Yeah. What a coincidence,” Yao Jinxi smiled noncommittally and nodded at Zhou Ling, “Did you just arrive here too?”

Zhou Ling was about to speak but was preempted by w.a.n.g Juan, “Yeah. We just got here! Where are you guys staying?”

Yao Jinxi remained silent. It was Wu Yang who responded, “Over by Sifang Street.”

w.a.n.g Juan frowned, “That’s quite far from us.”

The other three guessed that she was about to suggest a joint outing. Zhou Ling couldn’t stand watching the girl being overly naive and irritating. So she said, “Are you guys here for your honeymoon?” Yao Jinxi burst into laughter while Wu Yang answered her with a smile, “That’s not entirely wrong. But saying it’s for our anniversary might be more accurate, right?”

Ignoring him, Yao Jinxi said to Zhou Ling, “It’s not that significant. We just wanted to get out and explore the world.”
