"How was your day sweetheart?"
"It was good" she told her everything that happened except for the gory parts of her day. Then she remembered she still had to ask her to go to the party. "Mom, can I go a party on Friday?"
Her mom looked taken aback. "Well this is a first. Who is going?"
"My other schoolmates and Lola of course. I don't plan on staying for too long though."
"Okay but don't be too late and shout if you need a lift or if you get stuck."
"Thanks mom."
She went to the fridge to rummage for some food and something to drink. She asked her mom if she also wanted a sandwich and a drink. "Yes please, darling." She made two sandwiches and took out gla.s.ses from the cabinet where she filled them with some juice.
After eating and talking to her mom for a while. They decided to call it a night. She wasn't tired as she had slept in the afternoon. She lay awake on her bed when she felt her phone vibrate. She took it and checked. She saw that she had five messages. Two of them were from her friends and the other three were from an unknown number. She opened the message and it read.
"Hey, it's Jessie."
"This is my house address: 02 Atterbury road."
"You still coming right? ?"
Skylar contemplated if she should reply or just ignore him. She would type a short and sweet reply. "Hi, got it. Thanks." The she pressed send.
Her phone buzzed a few seconds later. "Cool, anytime." She didn't bother reply after that message. She didn't want to make small talk with him. It was better to leave it at that. She contemplated texting Lola that Jessie had sent a message with his house address, but she didn't she would tell her tomorrow when they were walking to school . She opened her other messages from her friends.
She replied her friends and told them that she missed and wished she could visit them so that she could tell them in person what has been going on in her life. When she was done, she switched off her phone and drifted off to sleep.
Morning had come too soon, and she had to bath and get ready for school. She got to Lola's house and her per usual she was waiting outside and this time she looked overly happy. "Morning" As Lola called out to her.
"Morning" she replied. Wondering what had gotten her spirits so up.
They walked side by side. "You didn't forget your card?" Lola asked.
"No, I didn't" she responded.
"I'm so excited, we are finally getting our outfits today. Then one more sleep then it's friyay!"
Now Skylar knew why she was so happy. It was because of the party that they were going to tomorrow. She remembered "Jessie sent me the address yesterday."
Lola squealed. "Why didn't you tell me sooner. I was worried that he might forget."
"Well he didn't."
"Where does he live?"
"Somewhere by Atterbury road."
"That's not bad. It's a ten-minute drive from where we live."
Lola talked about all the possible outcomes or things that could happen at the party. Her what if's where an endless pit. What if we get our first kisses? What if we don't like the taste of alcohol?
She wasn't concerned because if wasn't going well at the party she would dunk and dive. She wasn't under obligation to be there by force. They made their way to history and they sat down. They were early.
She pulled out her books from her bag. "What are you thinking about wearing" Lola asked her. She hadn't really thought about it yet. "I'm not sure anything that I can find at the mall."
Lola scowled at her and Skylar decided to turn the question around. "What are you planning to wear?" Her scowl disappeared immediately.
"I think a tight dress would suit me really well."
"How are you going to dance?" She asked. For her the main reason to go party was not the alcohol nor the boys but actually the dancing. She was only looking forward to that.
"I will just move a bit. I'm not much of the dancer type in any case." Lola said.
"Don't worry I will teach you a couple moves." Her words only fuelled Lola's excitement as she grinned widely.
"I wish this day would be already over" as she whined.
"Too bad it's only the first lesson and to make it worse we haven't even started it."
"I know right." Lola replied letting out a groan.
Students started coming in one by one. The teacher came in and put down his briefcase next to his table. He took out his book and then he spoke to them, "Open your books to page forty -five."
Which Skylar did, she liked teachers that got to the point immediately. Teachers that didn't want to be the students friends but rather thorough. when she looked over at Lola she looked half dazed. She was probably at the party already. She poked her, and she got a start. She laughed at her friend who stuck her tongue out her.
She went back to taking down notes. She turned to Lola and whispered, "aren't you going to be taking down notes?"
Lola looked at her "nope. I will do them when we are closer to the test rather than now. I can even barely keep up with what he is saying."
Skylar chuckled a bit. She kept on seeing Lola looking at the clock non-stop. She was fidgeting so much. Sadly, time doesn't move when you want it to but when you are doing something fun it goes by just like that.
The bell finally rang, and Lola jumped up from her chair. "Next up is Math" as she said it with determination to get this day over with.
Skylar started packing up her bag as Lola waited for her.
