Seeing the darkness creep into Han Bings eyes May caressed his face with her hand. "It's okay, everything is okay. I'm back here safe and sound" Mai whispered to Han Bing.
He looked at her with rea.s.suring eyes that were filled with happiness. "Yes, I know" he muttered. "But I can still see you standing there with these hagrid eyes as you were silently judged from everyone there."
Mai laughed "Don't you enjoy panda eyes?" She asked while raising her arm as if to hit him.
"I like anything when it comes to you Mai" Han Bing whispered into her ear.
Han Bing watched as her face flushed from his compliment and laughed at her. Attempting to cuddle her even closer then he already was. His arms were wrapped around her as if they were a castle and could protect her from anything.
This episode with the Emperor had opened Han Bings eyes, he had thought that mai would be safe. Never would he have thought that the emperor's insane obsession with him would get transferred over to her. Watching her stand there as she had been tormented reminded him of when he was a child with no one doing anything. Even he couldn't have done anything to change what had happened.
Yet even with all of this happening instead of opening a restaurant that could have been her own she had chosen to stay with him. Instead of being the Emperor's prized chef that all would look up to, she had remained his person chef. That anyone would choose him instead of their own comfort was something that Han Bing has never experience before and deeply treasured the feeling that it brought him.
Han Bing couldn't help but hold Mai close to him as the idea of losing her was worse than anything that had happened to him when he was a child. His heart hurt at the possibility of a future without her. Bringing her closer he cradled her on his chest.
He was thinking about the future that they would have together. Before Mai had appeared in his life he had already started on the construction of a house far away from the imperial city with intentions of permanently living there. Now it seemed even more important that the house was finished and completed as quickly as possible without the emperor knowing so that they could disappear.
Thinking about this brought Han Bing a large amount of comfort. His heart swelled at the idea of them living together without the daily ha.s.sle that he currently had to deal with. Just imagining a future with just the two of them and a very small number of servants brought great joy to his life.
Han Bing silently grinned as he put Mai in a more comfortable position in his arms to fall asleep in. He could tell that she was exhausted from the events of the day. He could smell her faint aroma in this position. It was a light floral smell that reminded him of roses. "I could get addicted to this scent" Han Bing thought to himself.
Han Bing stared at Mai as her eyes began to open less and her breathing became steady. He rocked her as she had peacefully fell asleep in his embrace. As soft as possible he carried Mai to her bed and set her down on it.
Han Bing rearranged the pillow and the blanket so that Mai would wake up in comfort and long forget about the torment that she had just endured. After making sure that she was a comfy as possible, Han Bing parted her hair and swept it off of her face. He leaned down and gave a soft kiss on Mai's forehead followed by a promise. "Mai, I swear, trust in me and I will always protect you."
Staring at her as he left the room Han Bing heart finally relaxed as he knew that no harm would come to Mai for the next little while.
