After I set up the straw doll, I'll begin.
I held my 9mm automatic handgun in a stance and aimed at the straw doll.
Sacrificing the clip size, the automatic handgun should be able to be handled by even a 4-year-old. Of course, that includes the recoil. I had test-fired it once and confirmed the power of the recoil back then.
Aiming at the straw doll, I pulled the trigger.
The method of shooting by pouring magic as I pulled the trigger is long gone.
I've loaded some mana onto the firing pin beforehand, so as it strikes the bullet, the mana will flow and automatically activate the spellcard.
This method of mana transfer was written in one of the books Wolf-sensei gave me. In Blood Magic, mana circulates within the human body, and with the same method, you can pour mana into anything, except Orichalcon.
Afterwards, the mana that was poured into the object would temporarily remain, and it would very, very slowly seep out to the environment.
Well then, the other thing that I read in the book is that the mana will flow onto other things that it came in contact with. From iron to iron, water to water, the behavior of mana is similar to electricity.
Thus I devised something using the same method where I poured mana into the firing pin, so as I pull the trigger, the mana will flow at the same time.
To be honest, this was a pain in the neck.
There were a lot of cases where I tried to infuse mana into the firing pin, only for it to spread on the whole structure of the gun, causing it to shoot accidentally. On the other hand, I realized that if I pour too little mana, the bullet won't shoot at all.
I thought of the possibility of removing the firing pin and the trigger and directly infuse mana into the gun, but then again I'll lose the aesthetics! I absolutely love the sensation of pulling the trigger, and removing them would be preposterous!
The reality of the problem is that if I infuse mana into the entirety of the gun, the bullets in the magazine would accidentally discharge. For that reason, I had to strictly undergo a magic adjustment and apply the mana only onto the firing pin, and I had to work extra hard for that.
And the result of that hard work is this!
As I squeeze the trigger, the bullet that was shot blew away the head of the straw doll. The empty cartridge then ejects as the next bullet is loaded to the chamber, and again, I pulled the trigger. This time, I aimed at the doll's chest, and my shot accurately hits. The straw doll eats the bullet and a hole opened up on its chest.
I can't get enough of shooting this gun!
The bullets I spent making until late at nights continued to barrage the pitiful straw doll, and before long, they're all spent. If only I knew better I'd have made a lot more bullets, huh. I regret my decision not to.
I'd also like to test fire the shotgun, but obviously it's too big for a 4-year-old to handle. Once I've learned proper usage of Blood Magic from Wolf-sensei and mastered strength boost, I'll be able to enjoy it to my heart's content.
Well then, what should I make next?
Considering a handgun should be a sidearm, I want a main weapon.
In that case, an automatic rifle. If I can make an automatic rifle used by the infantrymen acting as the lead role in the battlefield, my battle power should rise considerably. Ah, automatic rifle has a nice ring to it. If I can make that, I'll be able to fire it, so this will is the best!
Which father would have thought that their daughter would have made and shot a gun at 4 years old? I couldn't think of any. If I were to be a parent I'd stop them at a moment's notice. For a 4-year-old, an a.s.sortment of firearms would be dangerous goods.
Well, Father thought I'm only doing fundamental magic, and the magic that I use are unmistakably fundamental magic, so technically I'm not lying. I only said the truth.
Well then, let's strike while the iron is hot.
I started imagining the mechanism of an automatic rifle. I imagined the internal parts of the automatic rifle that I disa.s.sembled in Guam. I also imagined the video of a disa.s.sembly of an automatic rifle.
And as I summoned the earth spirit, the ground produced the figure of the automatic rifle. The shape is similar to those used by the United States Army.
I did it! The increase of my firepower is unstoppable!
???: “Hey, you.”
Beaming with excitement as the item from my wishlist came to reality, I just realized that a voice came from below.
Astrid: “Ah, uncle Gnome. Did you do the adjustments this time too?”
Gnome: “Uh huh, I did that. It should work properly.”
Uncle Gnome is really kind. It's cute too that he's a dwarf.
Gnome: “But still, what are you planning to do with this sort of weapon? You planning to start a war? I'm surprised that you have this extensive knowledge in your young age, but what are you planning on doing with that pure heart of yours?”
Uncle Gnome turned toward me and asked.
Astrid: “War…maybe war. But not the kind where countries fight each other. It's a fight in a personal level. It's kind of a showdown between me and my fate lying in wait.”
Gnome: “What the h.e.l.l? What do you mean, fate?”
I tried explaining but uncle Gnome's showed a confused face and stared straight at my eyes.
Astrid: “Fate is fate, uncle Gnome. To protect myself from the fated downfall that'll happen, arming myself is a necessity.”
As a villainess, I'll need face my fate with rigorous counterattack before meeting it, and if this country gets in the way, I'll flatten it along.
Gnome: “H-Hm. I can't understand.”
Astrid: “Well, even for me it's a topic that's hard to understand.”
Think about it; all of a sudden, I've already became a villainess. This situation in itself is already beyond possibility and comprehension.
Gnome: “Well, I don't hate creating these type of things, but if it's a tool to kill people then it's another story. Make sure that only you use these weapons. Don't lend it to people for them to a.n.a.lyze it.”
Uncle Gnome told me so with a serious expression.
Gnome: “The world is developing slowly. Especially because the kings are keeping the balance between kingdoms, they are not waging wars with each others. If the things you get me to make falls into their hands, they would undoubtedly want to show off its powers. That's really ill-advised.”
Is that so. Uncle Gnome even thought that far.
Certainly, avoiding my demise as the villainess is of utmost importance, but I bet maintaining harmony of this world would be important too. If a war breaks out, all the effort I spent on making myself the villainess to avoid my demise would disappear in a flash.
Astrid: “I shall promise. This technology shall be mine alone. I'll keep it a secret even to father or Wolf-sensei. I also don't wish for a war to break out.”
Gnome: “I'm glad to hear that. Now, focus on winning against that fate or whatnot.”
Of course I'm already doing that. I'll be sure to shoot that fate down. I'd like to avoid having my engagement broken off, being deported from the kingdom or having my house destroyed at all costs. I'll use modern weapons as much as I want to beat that fate black and blue.
Gnome: “Well then, see ya, girl-who-made-weird-things.”
Girl-Who-Made-Weird-Things: “It's Astrid. My name is Astrid. I look forward to working with you from now on.”
And thus, me and uncle Gnome parted ways.
It'll be fine if I made sure I'm loaded for bears with modern weapons, but if this technology gets leaked out, the balance of power that's preserved will be ruined and war will break out, so I'll have to think about it.
Fortunately, the blueprint is all in my head. This means no one can steal the blueprint from me.
Other than that, let's store the guns with utmost security. I'll buy a closet with a lock and add some chains and padlock on top of it.
Thankfully uncle Gnome had told me. I barely avoided throwing the world into war with the pull of a trigger.
As expected, the human mind is a gift. Although the preservation of the Balance of Power is also important, if poorly executed, I'll be pa.s.sing over my advantage I worked with great effort, and it will be displeasing. I'll keep this a secret to myself. No matter what.
For today's lesson, once again I am learning about physical enhancement through Blood Magic.
Wolf: “Well done, Astrid-sama. At this rate, I wouldn't mind allowing you to practice Blood Magic on your own.”
Astrid: “I did it!”
In terms of moving my body, I got a pa.s.sing score.
Astrid: “But Wolf-sensei, there should be a lot more uses for this Blood magic, shouldn't it? Like for example healing your body, or improving your reflexes, or manipulate the mind?”
Yes, Blood Magic isn't only for improving the movement of your limbs.
Blood Magic should be able to do various things such as manipulate other people's mind, amplify your reflexes, heal the place you got wounded.
What I'm really interested in mastering is the reflex improvement and prevention of PTSD.
Reflex is obviously important. The better it is, the better chance you can have in seizing victory in war. No matter how much firepower you bring, it means nothing if you can't shoot straight.
Other than that, PTSD prevention magic is also important. I'll need to keep my mind in check so that I can stay sane after killing a lot of enemy soldiers. I read this on a military novel, but it said you can adapt your brain to battle conditions, and with the adapted brain, soldiers can even kill child soldiers without mercy.
Wolf: “It's true that there are those uses, but…uses beyond body strengthening normally wouldn't be taught until you're on the senior grades in the academy.”
Astrid: “Can you please do something about it? I want to study from now!”
I would like to do that thing in the movies where I can press forward while dodging a hail of bullets, and in case I get injured I can heal myself.
Wolf: “Well then…I understand. For a start, I'll teach you Blood Magic to monitor your health condition. If you can learn this, you can figure out quickly if you have any ailments that has to do with magic.”
Hm, hm. It's the so-called health monitoring, huh? This world is unexpectedly developed.
Wolf: “First, ease your breathing and let your mana flow across your body. Can you do that?”
Astrid: “Yes, I did it.”
I'm getting used to using this Magic thing.
Wolf: “Then as you flow your mana, please check if there's any abnormalities.”
Astrid: “Uumm. It seems like there aren't anything off.”
The mana is flowing as normal. There are no abnormalities.
Wolf: “After that, circulate your mana just like that to every part of your body and pay close attention to it. Limbs, intestines, and brain. How is it? Can you see if all parts of your body is functioning properly?”
Astrid: “I can! I can understand! With this I can clearly understand every part of my body!”
I understand. Following the flow of mana, I can perfectly grasp the movement of my intestines, stomach, heart, and even the synapse firing in my brain.
Wolf: “That's great. Then I'll instruct you on how to improve your reflexes. In your mana, there should be a constantly flowing mana within your body. Please concentrate your consciousness and try to speed it up.”
So basically a nerve transmission acceleration, huh?
I think this method will work.
But I also know a method to improve my reflexes beyond this, but I'll try doing it on another time. I don't know what'll happen, so I'll try it once I perfected my magic adjustments. Trying it at this stage is a bit dangerous.
Astrid: “Wolf-sensei, is it difficult to manipulate the brain?”
Wolf: “It would be, yes. There are a lot of parts that are unknown in the brain, so we cannot imagine what could happen.”
This is the specialist speaking, so for me who needed to fiddle with my brain, there are no spells for it.
Astrid: “Wolf-sensei, I want to learn more about Blood Magic, so can you please bring some more books? I want to study!”
Wolf: “Understood. I will bring books that contains more advanced techniques.
Wolf-sensei is a nice teacher. He always answers to my demands.
Wolf: “Well then, with this, I permit you to practice limb strengthening at home. You may not fiddle with anything else, understand?”
Astrid: “Yes, Wolf-sensei!”
Well, with this I can shoot the shotgun.
TLN:
I find it funny that Astrid is surprised that the Gnome thought far toward the power balance between kingdoms if any of them get their hands on guns, while Astrid (a former college student, remember) should've understood that, especially being j.a.panese whose history includes times where some warring states gained ma.s.sive advantage after they acquired imported guns while the other states still held on to their bows and arrows. Also gun laws everywhere should've shown her about how big of a deal these things are, even in modern era, soooo…
As always, I hope you enjoyed the chapter and your day.
