The Most Majestic You
Chapter 30 Part 2
She seemed to have lost the ability to speak again. “Xu Jimo……” She said his name again. She seemed to have exhausted all her energy just to say his name, incapable of speaking another word.
He guessed the current situation, which was not far off the mark. She used her mom’s cell instead of her own cell and she acted like she was forced to make this phone call. There was only one possibility, “Your parents are against us being together?”
As if to confirm his guess, there was a chilling voice urging her from the other end of the phone, “Are you going to say it or not? Do you need mom to help you?”
Qianxi grabbed the phone back. She used up all her courage and finished speaking the whole paragraph in one breath, “I don’t care whether they agree or not. I just don’t want to break up. Xu Jimo, I don’t want to break up. I don’t care what they say……”
The phone was instantly taken away.
Her mom’s scolding streamed out of the speaker. There was turmoil and chaos at the other end.
The moonlight at his side was still so quiet, so clear and calm.
The moon was very cruel.
He didn’t know how long he had listened to the phone in silence until finally Qianxi regained control of the phone. Her voice carried very strong nasal sound. She nervously asked him, “h.e.l.lo, Xu Jimo, are you still there?”
“I’m here.” He had been listening all this time.
Her mom’s furious voice erupted again from the other end of the phone. “Do you plan to still treat me as your mom or not!”
Qianxi’s patience was thoroughly exhausted and shot back, “How does it have anything to do with whether you’re my mom or not?”
Xu Jimo held the phone and spoke softly, “Don’t quarrel with your mom.”
Qianxi suddenly felt dejected. As a matter of fact, she didn’t want to quarrel either. She always wrote in her elementary school compositions that her mom was the most beautiful, the most graceful, and the most considerate mother. She hoped to make her mom happy every day and always be obedient to her forever.
In the movie, the young loli asked the hitman, “Is life always this hard or only when you are a kid?”[1]
The hitman Leon said, “Always like this.”
But it wasn’t like this to her.
Her life started with a pot of sweet honey, then it was stewed and boiled, finally it turned into herbal medicine. When she was miserable, everybody around her told her that a bitter medicine cures the disease. Then what did she do wrong? Where was her “disease”?
He used a very calm, nearly coaxing, tone, “Your mom won’t harm you. You can consider it thoroughly since we’re still early in our relationship. We can separate for awhile to think it over with a clear head.”
Her voice was very frail, “What are you talking about?”
His breath grew heavy as he spoke. “I don’t want you to walk to me when you’re sick with a fever and throw everything away due to blind pa.s.sion.” His young girl was too perfect. She was so perfect like a young princess from a fairy tale, untainted by even a speck of dust. But he wasn’t a dragon slaying knight. He just pa.s.sed by her forest accidently and gave her a few bright and beautiful mushrooms.
Sometimes he also felt that he was a little undeserving with her unreserved courage.
Xu Jimo spoke lightly, “Cool off for a while. I will walk towards you if you still think the same way in the end.”
Qianxi’s voice turned cold instantly and spoke blankly, “So do you want to break up?”
Only his breath was clear on the phone. It was a long silence. It was so long that she thought he was answering her with the sound of his breathing.
But he finally spoke, “Listen to your mom. Have a good night’s sleep. You haven’t completely gotten over your cold.”
His answer was still very disappointing.
“Do you know what you just said?”
“I know.” He said.
She gripped her teeth tightly and held back all her tears. “Xu Jimo, I won’t forgive you. I hate the most when someone says ‘this is good for you’ as the excuse to do things to hurt me. I will never ever like you if you’re like this!”
Qianxi hung up the phone and threw the cellphone at a nearby sofa. She casually wiped the half dried tears and the newly falling tears off her face. She glanced at her mom. “Alright. You should be satisfied.”
She walked upstairs directly towards her bedroom without looking back. Her mom called her from the living room, “You come down! Isn’t it for you own good? Is mom wrong by doing this for you?”
“Of course you’re not wrong. You’re not wrong, all of you!”
Qianxi yelled twice irritably and shut herself inside the room.
She really hated it…...she hated the whole world.
Why did everyone she loved always told her which way to live, which way to choose her future, which way to…...like a man.
The night had deepened and the clear and cold moonlight pa.s.sed through the screen window and soaked her bed sheet.
Was life so hard always, or was it hard just at this moment?
She hoped she would dissolve in the moonlight and evaporate from the whole world to become an invisible cloud, watching coldly at all the joys and sorrows, unions and separation, pleasure and anger, and sadness and happiness that play out on the ground.
Then she wouldn’t be so tired. She wouldn’t be so exhausted, and she wouldn’t be…...so miserable.
