CHAPTER 27

Matthew felt heart ache for the la.s.s’s eyes. They seemed so deep and full of experience…

What has she been through, to look like this?

Unable to gaze away, wanting to melt her inner core, he rubbed his thumb against her soft face.

Truly, he always had worries. a.s.sa.s.sins, schemes, plots, lies, scandals, conflicts…

He was used to them all now. Yet, this little la.s.s seemed to suddenly become the biggest worry he’s ever faced. He found himself a new goal to not only protect her but to have her beside him and melting in his arms…

But…In an instant, the little la.s.s backed away, got up and left. “I advise you to stay away.”

Matthew stood up as well, but his gaze never left her retreating figure.

Feeling like he hadn’t had enough, he went to chase after her but…Suddenly, she disappeared!

Grabbing his heart in some sort of reflex, he stopped.

His spiritual essence came back to him, from being within her…

During their time together, he had used his ‘Emotions’ meditation cultivation, to seek answers from her. The first time, at the tavern, her emotions showed signs of dejection and longing. But she had been mostly happy and relaxed.

This time though…

Looking into the direction she had disappeared, he felt his heart break. Her emotions, among many, had impending imminent death…

Why was she so sure that she was going to die very soon?

“Someone!” He yelled.

“Your Highness.”

“Discretely watch her, don’t let anyone harm her!”

“Yes, Your Highness.”

You could say that I felt tremendously like something terrible was going to happen, from the day after my official birthday.

Ever since, I had headaches and bad feelings flowing through me. Funnily enough, through all this, I haven’t had much good or bad luck, since my instincts had somewhat slacked off a bit. But…I have tended to take extra care by spending more effort to stay away from people. I knew that I could be wrong, or that it could be years before something happens, but…

Thirteen. That number…It’s like a curse for me!

Thinking back through the day, I remembered being worried about marriage…

How ridiculous! Why should I bother to worry so much about marriage when ‘doom’ lingers over me like this!

I tried to stop thinking and went to the Martial Arts area, where everyone had left by now.

As I trained, I mumbled my sorrows away to the soft breeze flowing around me…

A week went by…And a drastic turn of events happened!

Not only did I act through my emotions abruptly, possibly making a mistake or two. But I had indeed, nearly died!

And through this, the Rolland Estate takes a change for the worse!

I vaguely felt myself being who I used to be, taken into my past, like it was happening right at this instant!

“…You believe I won’t kill her!”

“I just want her to return home, I told you, you can have me instead!” I yelled.

The man put his gun, that was pointed at my daughter’s head, into his jacket…

I felt no want to put my own gun down, as I felt that things weren’t over yet at all. But, I could already guess his next words…

“Very well, drop your gun, and come over here.”

“Mum…”

“Shut up!”

My daughter had tears in her eyes and showed her fear, breaking my heart to her innocence. She had lost so much weight, become so pale and seemed a different child to before she had been kidnapped.

She had bruises everywhere on her body, and dried blood…She looked like she hadn’t been able to clean herself at all, even her clothes looked the same as the ones that she had disappeared in.

I breathed a heavy sigh, thinking of the last resort that I had, I might have to revert to it if something doesn’t go right. In fear that I could lose my daughter’s life, because she was in their hands, I dropped my gun and slowly walked over towards the man, that was holding my innocent daughter hostage.

It was only a couple of steps, before he rapidly pulled out a knife and then slashed it across my daughter’s neck!

…I had already gone bad enough to kill several people without a second thought nor remorse, but what I had seen then…

Blackness overcame me, till just before the car accident.

I wasn’t very well off, with blood all over me, losing my life through knife cuts and bullets. I was also handcuffed to the hospital bed, that was inside of the police ambulance. I couldn’t move a muscle and the pain seemed to slice through my whole body like it was breaking down and being pulled apart…

It looked like the paramedics were just about to inject me with something, even though I had no more fight left in me.

I didn’t say a word, even through this pain, as I felt quite empty…And the biggest pain of all, was my failure. A tear slid down my cheek…

Feeling myself return to my normal self, I closed my eyes and more tears went down my face. Having my objective to save my daughter had suddenly disappeared into a puff of smoke…I had gained a new objection afterwards, and that was to kill everyone!

With my mission complete, I reverted back to my ‘good’ side and felt like I didn’t mind that my life was on the verge of ending…

I couldn’t save her…I had killed everyone there, but I didn’t save her!

I could feel myself losing consciousness, thinking I’ll probably die soon.

But before I lost consciousness…The car flipped over and I felt myself fly about, still handcuffed to the bed. People rammed into me, just like the bed. My head hit the side of the car and I got squashed into a corner, with something heavy on top of me…

Before the car stopped moving, I had stopped breathing…
