Well, from the t.i.tle I'm sure you can almost guess how that has come to be…(hint : Oxford dictionary) lol!  Anyway, RMX is starting to feel something and PZG is still trying to get out from between the rock and the hard dictionary! LEQ & RS..well….

Chapter 20.1 : Turtle Egg

Ruan Mingxian's mind was preoccupied with Li Erqin and her dainty features (Literal translation: raindrops on pear blossoms), and he was wondering how Li Erqin would look when she broke out from her "Facial Paralysis". (TN: I surmised that it's more like a deadpan expression or frozen look!)

However, reality left him quite disappointed.

When he had followed the Peng Zige duo back to the sick bay, he saw that Li Erqin was staring blankly at the ceiling with that same "facial paralysis" expression. What other expression was he even expecting?

Hearing their movements, Li Erqin turned her attention towards the door and was momentarily stunned to see Ruan Mingxian. Her lips parted in surprise, finally producing a different expression.

She looked rather cute.  Ruan Mingxian's heart commented.

Ruan Nuonuo explained: "We met my brother on the way. He wanted to come see you."   

Ruan Mingxian smiled brightly to affirm what his sister had just said.

"Thank you." Li Erqin sat up. "It's not such a big deal."

"Where did you get hit?"

Li Erqin lifted her hair. "Here."

Ruan Mingxian walked over to her and bent over to have a look. Li Erqin’s right forehead had a b.u.mp (like a rising sun) that was bruising and purplish in colour; it was definitely swollen.

"Looks miserable!" he concluded. "Is it painful?"

Li Erqin looked at him incredulously: "Yes."

Ruan Mingxian rubbed his nose, realising that he had asked a ridiculous question. However, after hearing her say that it hurt, his heart somehow felt quite uncomfortable, and he was unable to resist sighing to himself : Ah, guess now that winter has arrived, spring won't be too far along!

As he was still sighing, a plate of food suddenly appeared in the middle of them. Rong Si hadn't made any sound when he came from behind them. "Have something to eat first."

Li Erqin obediently accepted the plate and lowered her head to eat.

Ruan Mingxian couldn't believe that the sight of Li Erqin obediently eating her food could also be so pleasing to his eyes.

After they had taken Li Erqin back to her hostel, the "muzzled for the evening" Peng Zige finally opened his mouth to speak, "Ah Si, can you come for a walk with me?"

Naturally aware that he had something he wanted to say, Rong Si replied without a thought, "Let's go."

However, Peng Zige and Rong Si had walked side by side until almost half of the sports field, and he still had not uttered a single word.

Rong Si exhaled a mouthful of hot breath into the cold night air. "Peng Zige, if you don't speak up soon, I'm going to freeze to death."

"Huh?" Peng Zige regained his focus, struggling within himself for a long time (for most of the day ~ an expression). "Maybe…let's forget it. It'll be better if I don't say anything. Let's just…return to the hostel?"

"OK," Rong Si promptly answered.

Peng Zige was speechless. "You……aren't you curious? (don't you want to know?)"

Rong Si stopped walking and looked at him.

Peng Zige immediately lowered his head. "Today, Li Erqin…she hurt herself …"

"Mmm."

"Actually, I felt that I … that is, I …… you see, originally… Ayeee! You understand, right?"

"No, I don't understand."

Peng Zige was once again rendered speechless as he stared at Rong Si. He attempted to say more but then sighed. "Actually, I don't even know what's the matter, but today I saw Li Erqin get hurt right in front of me, and I didn't do anything to prevent it. In fact, I could've easily blocked the dictionary from her, but I was afraid that it would've scared Ruan Nuonuo ….."

Rong Si still had on his usual, calm expression, and with his usual, tranquil voice, he said, "It's not your fault."

"But I still feel so uneasy… I feel like I should have protected Li Erqin …"

"Why do you 'have' to protect Li Erqin?"

"I ……"

Just as Peng Zige had uttered the word "I", two bright beams of light flashed out from across the sports field. This was followed by the Night Duty teacher's shout: "The two students sneaking about there and having a love relationship (having an illicit rendezvous), DON'T MOVE!"

"Sneaking about?"

"Love relations."

"Don't move!"

(Minodayz: ok, I'm not sure if rolling on floor laughing could even express the how funny it is for the teacher to pop up in the middle of PZG's serious chat! Plus the dating/courting rendezvous comment! – Dear author, you sure know how to throw in those moments!)

Their conversation was very naturally interrupted by the Night Duty teacher.  When he saw that what he had called "a Secret lovers' rendezvous" turned out to be two strapping boys and one of them happened to be the distinguished student Rong Si, he was shocked beyond words.

He held the flashlight awkwardly. "Rong Si, it's already past the time for lights out. What are you and this male student doing out here?"

Rong Si silently took a step to the side and very politely mentioned to the teacher, "Teacher, your flashlight."

"Oh!" The Night Duty teacher immediately lowered the flashlight that he had pinned on them. "I'm sorry."

"Then, we'll be heading back to the hostel now."

"Get moving then."

"Goodbye teacher."

A very natural conversation.

With that, Rong Si quickly took a stunned Peng Zige away before the Night Duty teacher remembered the "Students are not allowed to be outside wandering the school grounds after lights out" rule, making haste to leave the scene of the crime.

They returned to the hostel and quickly took their shower. Rong Si had just laid down when he felt the biting coldness of Peng Zige's gaze through the blanket. Peng Zige was on his side facing Rong Si. Big eyes stared into smaller eyes, and a long moment of silence ensued. He felt that being in this face-to-face position was making it especially difficult to speak so he finally turned onto his back and fixed his gaze upwards.

After some time, he felt he could finally talk about it.

"Ah Si, you asked me earlier why I felt like I HAD to protect Li Erqin." Peng Zige spoke quietly into the darkness as he stared at the ceiling. "I really don't know why, but I just feel like I should. It's obvious that Li Erqin and I have a closer relationship, but when the time came, how was it that I chose to protect Ruan Nuonuo and not Li Erqin?  I thought it over and over this afternoon, and I feel like it was because of the sequence of events, but what was it?

Peng Zige was actually pretty tired so at this point in his dialogue, his mind had s.p.a.ced out for a few seconds. Hence, he paused momentarily before continuing, "Oh, it's because the dictionary's initial target was Ruan Nuonuo! I had reacted by reflex, and in that split second I pulled Ruan Nuonuo to my side instead. In the back of my mind, I knew that I could have blocked the dictionary itself, and then it wouldn't have been been able to hit Li Erqin, but sadly, the body doesn't react as quickly as the mind. Sheesh, just talking like this, I feel like I wasn't that much in the wrong (i.e. I didn't sin). Thankfully Li Erqin was alright. Oh, speaking of Li Erqin, what is her head made of for her to be able to escape unscathed after being hit by such a big dictionary?"

Suddenly, the nattering Peng Zige paused and noted that the person beside him was rather quiet.

"Ah Si? Ah Si, are you listening to me?"

There was no response at all.

"Wow ..….you actually fell asleep? I was sharing my heart with you. As a teenager, whatever we're going through feels like the most important thing in our life, you know? I was sharing these important thoughts with you, and you actually fell asleep? Do you really have a conscience? Are you really my friend?"

As Peng Zige was rambling on, his mind once again drew a blank. After he was done s.p.a.cing out, he still wasn't sure if he had continued talking. His level of consciousness was too blurry, and he couldn't determine what he had said afterwards or if he had actually said everything.

Minodayz: RMX is crushing on our LEQ – what are you going to do RS?!!!

I kinda like RMX's thoughts when he visited with LEQ – rather cute.  However, I'm seeing RS in the background, yet when he comes forth, LEQ just obeys – like an old married couple! lol! I'm glad that just as PZG began to wind himself up over LEQ, the author could so easily interject humor that in it's own way diffused the tensed emotions.  Yet I'm also glad that he got to 'talk' it out with a sleeping RS. Like I said before, RS is still looking a tad slow on the uptake….c'mon mate…rivalry, compet.i.tion = action?? Til the next part….have a great weekend!
