Chapter 226 - Baffling Young Master Yu
Translator: Lav

Everything in the golf course felt like a fresh new experience to Shi Lei. There were many gla.s.s display cabinets inside, not to mention the luxurious furnishing. Some of the cabinets had a single club inside, some had a small white ball, and others presented either clothes or gloves. He could see signatures on each displayed item, and a.s.sumed them to be those of some professional golfers.
Meng Xiaodie let Shi Lei in and said in a low voice, “Miss Wei said that it’s Mr. Shi’s first time here and told me to pick a set of equipment for you. Mr. Shi, what brand of clubs are you interested in?”
“I don’t understand any of this. Pick for me,” Shi Lei said indifferently.
Soft laughter sounded next to them. Shi Lei glanced over to see a flirtatious and pretty woman. He had the feeling that she looked slightly familiar and after some thought, realized that she was the woman from the Bentley that had pa.s.sed him at the front gate. However, she had been sitting with her back to him, so Shi Lei could only see her silhouette and recognized her from her from the outfit she wore.
“What are you laughing about?” Shi Lei heard the young man from before speak. He then saw him walking out from a doorway, already changed into an old-fashioned peaked cap and tugging on his gloves.
The woman giggled and whispered something into his ear. The young man also laughed. “So you really do have a friend who’s a member here,” he said, studying Shi Lei. “Xiaodie, why is the system here getting more and more complicated? You just let anyone in, huh? I think that you should have some restrictions here. You can’t let people in just because they say they want to bask in the sun, right?”
“h.e.l.lo, Young Master Yu. This sir was introduced by a member here. Our club only allows a member to bring, at most, two friends in. And of course, we are strict with this rule.”
Young Master Yu was displeased by Meng Xiaodie’s words, but he couldn’t make a retort. He pointed at Shi Lei and said, “The equipment here isn’t cheap. I advise you to stop looking around and go straight to the practice ground. There are practice clubs there for the public to use anyway. I reckon that it’s impossible for your friend to bring you here every single time. If you really bought an expensive set of equipment, I’m afraid you won’t have a lot of chances to use it in the future.”
Shi Lei frowned. “What the h.e.l.l is wrong with you?” he asked straightforwardly.
The young man froze. He had never imagined that Shi Lei would dare talk to him like that. Because Wei Xingyue said they would be here to play golf, Shi Lei had specifically changed into the Nike outfit he bought when he had just gotten the Black Card, and therefore looked somewhat unpresentable. As for Young Master Yu’s outfit, the cheapest was worth five digits and the majority were custom-made. With a pure silver collar lining and 18k gold b.u.t.tons, the outfit was worth at least six digits. Young Master Yu completely believed that Shi Lei was just some loser who was inexperienced in life and somehow manage to become friends with a wealthy person, mainly because Shi Lei wasn’t even driving a car when he arrived. In his perspective, if Shi Lei’s friend really thought of him as one, they should’ve taken him along instead of leaving him to stand in front of the gate, displaying his ignorance. Just by this point alone, Young Master Yu looked down on him.
“Watch your att.i.tude!” He glared at Shi Lei.
“Whether I come here in the future or have the chance to use the equipment or not, this has nothing to do with you whatsoever. I’m just standing here and you just had to meddle in my business. Why wouldn’t there be something wrong with you?”
Young Master Yu had the strong urge to scream in anger, but he didn’t want to lose his dignity here. He instead laughed maliciously. “Fine. I’ll see if you can buy it or not after seeing the price. It doesn’t matter that you’ve never been here before. You’ll know after you experience it. Golf isn’t something everyone can afford to play. Someone like you should just go to a gym and lift weights.”
“Am I not allowed to play it on the practice ground here? Man, there’s really something wrong with you. Even if I prefer playing soccer with a golf ball, I don’t see how it has anything to do with you. Manager Meng, can’t we go look at the equipment already? It’s winter, and it’s really annoying to have a fly buzzing around my ears!” With that said, Shi Lei walked forward. Hearing his words, Young Master Yu threw his glove onto the ground in anger.
Meng Xiaodie didn’t dare offend him, but she only smiled apologetically. Shi Lei, on the other hand, was Wei Xingyue’s friend and she had specifically mentioned him, so in Meng Xiaodie’s eyes, Shi Lei was more important. She chased after him.
Presented with a view of Shi Lei’s back, Young Master Yu narrowed his eyes and eventually spoke to the woman next to him. “Let’s go. We’ll follow them!”
The woman had a blank expression. “Huh? Why are we going there? I don’t play golf and your equipment is good enough as it is.”
“I’m going to watch that brat’s reaction when he sees the price of the equipment!”
The woman laughed and covered her mouth. She leaned against his arm and said, “A loser like him would be scared to death by a set of equipment worth more than ten thousand yuan.”
Young Master Yu laughed heartily. “He’s so full of himself just because he’s wearing some luxury clothes. He even challenged me!” The woman took his arm and the two of them walked toward the equipment center.
Shi Lei followed Meng Xiaodie to the equipment center. She spoke to him in a low voice as they walked. “Although what Young Master Yu said wasn’t pleasing to hear, I personally think that it is kind of reasonable. If Mr. Shi doesn’t usually have the interest to play golf and never touched a club before, then it’s better for you to practice using the public equipment here first to try out the feeling. If you really are interested, then whether you sign up for a membership or not, it wouldn’t be too late to pick the equipment then.”
Shi Lei waved his hand, thinking only that this was a great opportunity to spend money. I hope that the equipment is expensive, since I still have 400,000 to 500,000 yuan left this month.
“It’s fine. Whether or not I play it n the future, it’s still nice to display a set at home. Please give me some recommendations!”
Mend Xiaodie didn’t speak any further, since she understood the situation better than Young Master Yu. Although Shi Lei looked like somewhat of a timid person, there’s no way that Wei Xingyue’s friend would care about the cost of a set of equipment.
Hence, she responsibly began to introduce brands in order from the cheapest to the most expensive.
Before she could speak more than a few sentences, Young Master Yu’s eccentric voice sounded from behind them. “If a smith wants to do his job well, he must first sharpen his tools. Since you want to buy it, then get a good set. Xiaodie, this is your fault. This sir looks like he comes from an extraordinary background, so there’s no point in introducing him to those bad brands, like Mizuno or Srixon. If I was going to recommend a brand, I’d go straight for something like Callaway or Taylormade, if not Homma.”
Shi Lei knew who was speaking without even having to turn around, and he couldn’t even be bothered enough to reply.
Although it had only been a minute or so, Shi Lei pretty much went through the price ranges of the brands here. Mizuno and Srixon were indeed the cheapest brands here with one set of equipment from a few thousand to a maximum of ten thousand yuan. As for Callaway and Taylormade, the starting price was around 20,000 yuan. The Homma was at least 30,000 to 40,000 yuan a set.
Young Master Yu walked forward, picked up a club, and spoke while waving it around. “I think this one is quite good. Homma limited version for Zhang Lianwei(1), I believe. There are only thirty sets in the whole world. It’s not that expensive, only somewhere around 500,000 yuan. Want to consider it?”
Meng Xiaodie believed that he was going overboard, but she couldn’t afford to offend him. Therefore, she smiled and said, “This set isn’t for sale. It is my boss’ collectable.” Her words were skilled, since she neither offended Young Master Yu nor made Shi Lei consider the idea of purchasing it.
