Chapter 163 - Investment Opportunity Brought by the Soccer Lottery

Shi Lei didn’t want to talk to the annoying Scepter anymore, so he pressed a b.u.t.ton and the Black Card was ejected. The screen returned to its normal display and the Scepter disappeared.
Before it vanished, it huffed, “No manners…” Shi Lei’s face turned dark when he heard its words and he promptly ignored it.
After he returned to his apartment, Shi Lei checked his phone and, as expected, two new apps were added on it. One of them was the “Lottery Card,” which was the reward for levelling up. Through this card, he could obtain a number, and the number could help him to win a prize of seventy-six thousand yuan after taxes were deducted. Shi Lei tapped open the app and saw that it included all kinds of lotteries available in the country, including sports and welfare.
As he scanned through these options, he suddenly realized a problem.
The soccer lottery!
The soccer lottery’s prize was generated according to an odds ratio. In other words, if Shi Lei wanted to use two yuan to win seventy-six thousand yuan, he had to to make a long series of bets. So it was impossible to win seventy-six thousand yuan in a single match. Then once Shi Lei chose the option of the soccer lottery, this app would give him the results of at least seven or eight games.
This allowed Shi Lei to know the results of the majority of the games, and at the moment, the matches of the five European Leagues were in full swing. Now that Shi Lei could predict the results of these matches, there would definitely be unpopular options that he could bet on with his own money.
For example, if one of the results was unexpected and involved extremely rich and powerful teams, such as Basaar or Real Madrid, and if Shi Lei made a bet with someone, wouldn’t he gain more self-owned funds? As long as he used his own money to invest, the Black Card shouldn’t be able to do anything about it, right?
Shi Lei’s eyes shone brightly. This was definitely a way to become rich. Although it would be rather difficult to find someone who was willing to be deceived because of their generosity, there were plenty of gambling websites out there on the internet. As long as Shi Lei, who knew what the unpopular options were, invested on them…
Private funds, here I come!
Shi Lei was over the moon. Sports lotteries were different from welfare lotteries in that it wasn’t as simple as a series of numbers. Every number in this chain of numbers had a precise meaning.
He clicked the option for the soccer lottery. After a moment of hesitation, he chose to bet with two yuan and the app quickly generated a long list. Besides a chain of numbers made of zeros, ones, and threes, there was also detailed information on the matchups for the games.
Zero meant that the home team would be defeated, one meant a draw, and three meant victory.
Although he had yet to know the details for the score, these games were all from the European Leagues and Shi Lei had entirely grasped the outcomes.
After a careful look, the game with highest lose ratio had reached 7.02, and without a doubt, it would be an upset. There was also another game with a ratio of 5.86, which would also be an upset.
With these two games, Shi Lei could almost see money waving its hands at him. The point was that he could use his own funds to invest on foreign betting websites, create a few strings, and easily reach more than forty-one times the loss rate. If he spent ten thousand yuan…
The thought was too beautiful and Shi Lei didn’t dare imagine it!
He first bought a lottery with merely two yuan on the official website for the soccer lottery and immediately started looking up information on foreign betting websites.
He had just started researching and seemed to find a website that had been in business for quite a few years with a rather high reputation and guarantee.
Clicking into the website, Shi Lei breathed deeply, found those two upset games, and combined the two strings into one. He hesitated over the amount of money he should bet. Although he only had about ten thousand yuan of private funds, he also had a one million yuan consumption sum with seventy-six thousand yuan of prize money after this lottery closed. Today just happened to be the weekend, and majority of the games scheduled to be played were in these two days, so it should be fine if he made up for the money he spent after receiving the prize on Monday.
After a long moment of hesitation, Shi Lei eventually decided to bet ten thousand yuan. Since that d.a.m.ned Scepter didn’t allow him to borrow money from the one million yuan sum, it would be troublesome if it determined that he invested using that money, and he had to spend all the profits he earned from lottery.
Seventy-six thousand yuan times more than forty. That was close to three million, and higher than this month’s sum.
He checked his own funds. Thirteen thousand yuan. Shi Lei decided to bet ten thousand. This way, ten thousand times forty-one, he would have four hundred and ten thousand yuan.
Shi Lei realized that he was accustomed to spending the Black Card’s money and he wouldn’t care about a mere ten thousand yuan. However, when he had to spend his own money, it was only ten thousand yuan and his hands were shaking.
Finally, he successfully charged the money and Shi Lei bet ten thousand yuan on this string. If nothing went wrong, then after the game results were revealed next Monday, he should receive the reward of four hundred and ten thousand yuan.
After Shi Lei finished spending a large portion of the money that belonged to him, his heart thumped loudly.
He composed himself and pushed everything about the lottery aside, then began to examine the app which was labelled with “Ancient Times’ Study of Martial Arts.”
Because it could be controlled verbally, Shi Lei purposely put the phone in his pocket. Then he took a deep breath and said, “Click on the Ancient Times’ Martial Arts app.” He waited for a while and realized that nothing had changed, so he took out the phone. The initially locked screen had been unlocked and entered the options page.
There were three avatars, hand-drawn without a real photo. But it was normal, since they didn’t have cameras at the time. Their names were written beneath their icons and naturally, Shi Lei had never heard of any of them before. He clicked on one of the icons and thought that he could see the details of this master, but there was nothing except a dialogue that popped up asking if Shi Lei was sure he wanted to be possessed by this person. He quickly pressed “No.”
Obviously, he wouldn’t waste a chance right now. Although he had four times he could be possessed by a martial arts master, he couldn’t just waste it like this!
But Shi Lei now knew about the process of choosing the options. He exited the app and locked it, putting it back into his pocket.
Then, he said, “Click on Ancient Times’ Martial Arts app.” Three seconds later, Shi Lei said, “I choose the first martial arts master!” There was no detailed information so it shouldn’t make too much of a difference.
He took out his phone and as expected, it was the same dialogue that had popped up earlier, except the three martial arts masters had changed to another three and Shi Lei still didn’t know any of them.
He was clear that once he said “confirm,” the martial arts master placed first would possess him. He wanted to keep experimenting with it, and decided to try it in an empty place tomorrow to see how sick the martial arts master really was.
After he closed the app and turned off his laptop, Shi Lei thought about the whole process of getting possessed by a martial arts master. He laughed out loud, feeling like he was watching a cartoon from his childhood. In the cartoon, before the people started fighting, they would always shout out some sort of catchphrase. Some would shout the name of the attack while others may shout something like “Please grant me powers. I’m XX.” Shi Lei couldn’t comprehend that before but easily accepted it now.
Except what he had to yell still sounded way less dramatic and definitely not as cool as “Diamond Stars Fist” or “Rozan Ascending Dragon!”
