Shanghai, Starryfu District. In the Year 2047, this rich, modernized district had been unveiled. A decade ago, it had been the talk of the entire nation. Using advanced technology, the city's basic functions such as electricity, all operated without the need for workers. Unfortunately, entrance into the district was restricted in recent times due to the lack of various resources.
Inside Starryfu, a red-haired man was walking on a lit-up street. The street was enclosed by branded stores, luxurious cafes, and top-cla.s.s restaurants. Sun Yi was like a devil. He stared at the closest group of four. Within the 'bow' group, there was a s.e.xy woman in her late twenties, a kind-looking old man, a middle-aged man, and the white-uniformed Li Xiujing.
Upon this look, the other teams all sighed with relief. Luckily, this time around, their team had not been chosen. The red-haired man was like a death G.o.d. With a single look, he could decide their life or death.
"F*ck. How is this even fair? Two monsters in one team, what can we even do?" Li Xiujing bellowed. But he did not dare to step forward; instead, he tried to hide his presence. Luckily, the old man took the initiative.
Under the devil-like man's stare, the old man marched toward the red-haired man. Like a courteous master, he graciously smiled, "Youngster, I have a beautiful granddaughter. Judging from your appearance, she's the same age as yourself; she's in her early twenties! In fact, she's a nation-shattering beauty! How about this: let us pa.s.s, and we can continue our discussion?"
Seeing the devil-like man had no reaction, the old man started to feel uneasy, but he did not show his fear. He carried on stating with some panic, "Lad, you won't regret it; our family's Zhi Ruo is a gift from G.o.d."
With the old man's last sentence, Feng Hui's indifferent look shot up with shock.
Suddenly, Feng Hui walked on the pavement toward the old man. With the air of a legendary monarch, Feng Hui slowly asked, "Did you say… Zhi Ruo?"
This gaze was extremely frightening. The old man's calm exterior finally broke down, but he still choked out an answer, "Yes…"
"Zhi Ruo would also be around this age. It's likely a coincidence, but I owe her too much. Even if it's a miniscule chance, I can't allow it." Feng Hui contemplated. Recalling his life in the Dragon Continent, Long Fengge had lived to the age of twenty-five. As his childhood friend, Zhi Ruo was a year younger.
In a foreign world, the little Zhi Ruo had been his sole friend growing up.
"Your team may survive, but never desecrate Zhi Ruo's value." Feng Hui ruthlessly commanded without room for refusal. He added, "Zhi Ruo isn't someone a person like you can control. If I catch word otherwise, you'll regret ever crossing me."
"Hmm?" Sun Yi observed the white-uniformed man's domineering aura, and he chuckled, "This must be the true him."
"Y-Yes, of course!" The old man replied with panic, and he thought, "Does this monster know Zhi Ruo?"
Behind Feng Hui, a mellow voice murmured.
"Brother Hui… who's this Zhi Ruo?" Xie Na asked with an odd tone.
Hearing this, Feng Hui shook his head in response. What use was there thinking about it? The two of them did not even live in the same world.
Reminiscing of their childhood, and the little scarlet-robed Zhi Ruo, Feng Hui thought, "A woman I owe a lifetime to; a friend I can't ever repay."
Seeing the white-uniformed prodigy's silence, Xie Na bit her lower cherry lip. Tasting the sweet blood, she became saddened. A woman's intuition was frightening: she could see that this woman called Zhi Ruo held an important place within Feng Hui's heart, but she didn't lose hope.
Feng Hui saw this; however, he did not bother to comfort the cute red-bloused girl. Instead, he helplessly smiled at his new teammate.
"Sorry, Sun Yi." Feng Hui sighed and offered his apologies. He had been fl.u.s.tered; therefore, he had been rude and indifferent to his comrade. He had not even asked for his opinion.
"Don't worry, Brother Hui. It doesn't affect me, after all." Sun Yi grinned with an amused look which demonstrated that he truly was unconcerned; rather, he looked somewhat cheerful.
"Thanks, Sun Yi." Feng Hui nodded, and he appreciated the red-haired man's character.
"There's no need for thanks, Brother Hui. Please, don't treat me like a stranger. I may be cruel, but I never abandon my comrades!" Sun Yi brightly laughed. Toward his friends, unless he was betrayed, he would remain courteous forever. Since he had accepted this white-uniformed man as a comrade, this respect was natural.
"I'll remember this, Brother Sun." Feng Hui smiled. Indeed, this red-haired man was an excellent talent. From this point on, he had accepted the man as a friend. In the Long Kingdom, to earn Emperor Feng's recognition was a superb achievement!
Feng Hui turned his attention back to the old man.
With a chilly gaze, Feng Hui stared at the old man. In a calm voice, he slowly asked, "This Zhi Ruo… what is her character like?"
"Little Zhi Ruo is very shy and amiable. If taken outside, she will definitely not embarra.s.s the husband! Furthermore, her character is undoubtedly obedient in bed. The perfect trophy wife!" Hurriedly, the old man shamelessly boasted his granddaughter's status. This white-uniformed monster would decide his fate, after all!
Hearing this, Feng Hui remained expressionless. Afterward, he shook his head.
"This cautious, shy individual is nothing like my Xiao Ruo. In fact, the two of them could be considered polar-opposites." Feng Hui sighed. Zhi Ruo, this little scarlet-robed princess, had saved his life numerous times. In the Dragon Continent, she would always nag him tenderly for neglecting his safety.
Noticing the white-uniformed teenager's melancholic look, the old man panicked, and he started sweating. He pondered if he had not been convincing enough.
After his brief thought, Feng Hui noticed the old man still desired to shamelessly boast. He coldly stated, "This is your final warning. Do you remember my words?"
From birth, Feng Hui only had his family. As a man who loved and respected his family, he detested this old man. To be willing to sell off his granddaughter to save his own skin, he was infuriated. In his world, family was everything.
"Y-Yes!" The old man m.u.f.fled in dread, but he secretly thought, "Zhi Ruo's not even my real granddaughter. If not for that powerful man appearing in front of my family's doorstep, why would I have taken in a random newborn? In fact, he even shamelessly forced me to name her as Zhi Ruo! Luckily, she had grown up to become an outstanding beauty; otherwise, it would have been such a waste."
"Brother Hui, how about this. We'll choose the teams with the lowest members. This way, we will be able to save some lives." Sun Yi smiled, and he offered a proposal.
"Sure." Feng Hui nodded. Human lives could never be measured with numbers, but death was unavoidable here. To him, these survivors were all the same.
With this answer, Sun Yi randomly chose eight teams that numbered two to three. In total—there were eighteen survivors. In the teams, there were other parties that also had this headcount. The mission demanded the demise of half the teams; therefore, this was enough.
Of the selected eighteen, the majority sighed but accepted their end. In a single day, the survivors had seen too much death; however, a select few had a look of craziness. The slim middle-aged Tang Bai screamed, "How the f*ck is this fair? Pick someone else! Why do you get to decide our life or death?!"
Sun Yi had no reaction. Leaving no time for the selected survivors to react, he instantly hurled a wave of fireb.a.l.l.s. In a flash, the survivors were scorched underneath the vast golden flame. Hearing the screeches, the red-haired man remained indifferent.
But something was amiss. Standing amidst the golden flames, the slim Tang Bai still remained unscathed. Out of the blue, the middle-aged man actually peacefully stepped out of the flames. With a mocking smile, he asked, "How was my acting?"
The character change was too sudden. The onlookers were all shocked.
"Acting?" Sun Yi coldly scrutinized the transformed middle-aged man. But inside, he was dumbfounded. "How is he unaffected?"
"Devils." Feng Hui a.s.sumed. He uninterestedly thought, "Those lemures from before are a type of devil. The cultivators of the evil devil sect were also immune to fire and poison; furthermore, all of them were resistant to the cold."
Previously, Sun Yi had decimated the monsters without care. The lemures were the most unusual, however. These hideous tall purple blobs that stood at the height of humans had 'fallen' too easily. In fact, the ugly-faced purple blobs were weaker than even the goblins. But, in reality, these lemures were malevolent souls from h.e.l.l that descended from another world!
Looking at the dark soul of the middle-aged man, Feng Hui nodded to himself, "Indeed, it is mind control. In this world of death, the souls of humans are too vulnerable. For these lemures, it's like a free buffet. Likely, the man was controlled after his crisis."
For the devils who latched onto the bodies of feeble-minded humans, weak souls were easy prey.
"Mind control?" Sun Yi also noticed the blobs of purple molten leaking behind the middle-aged man. In a split-second, he had made a deduction. His senses were indeed brilliant.
Feng Hui heard his teammate's low mumble, and he smiled to himself, "Such a good seedling."
Tang Bai's face became distorted, and he ridiculed, "From predator to prey, how does it feel?"
At the same time, from the remaining survivors, ten more unusual-looking people marched forward. Within their eyes, there was no light; instead, it contained utter darkness. Seemingly, all of them had fallen under the spell of the lemures' mind control.
"Mind control or not, it doesn't matter!" Sun Yi scorned the monsters in human form, and he swiftly sent a flying backspin kick at the middle-aged Tang Bai. Shocked, he discovered that the man was unaffected. Even with his increased power at the yellow level, the man had remained static.
Feeling no pain, Tang Bai snorted, "Idiot."
With some blood in his mouth, Tang Bai's pale face quickly recovered to normal. At the same time, the initially motionless liquefied lemures began taking shape again. Shortly later, over sixty lemures resurfaced through speedy regeneration.
