Chapter 77 - Investment
Yu Tang quietly looked at Song Xiao, who had bowed his head to count the money. Reaching out, he grabbed Song Xiao, threw him over his shoulder, and left.
“Wu… It fell!” Song Xiao swatted Yu Tang’s b.u.t.t; a large note had fallen to the floor.
Yu Tang ignored him, directly carried him upstairs, and slammed the door with a bang.
Dayu Capital’s projects were completed one after another, and Yu Tang was very busy every day. Song Xiao didn’t bother Yu Tang with Bai Qing’s matter anymore, and followed up on it himself.
Sure enough, Bai Qing had asked Qiu Mingyan to bail her out, and she met Song Xiao again with the excuse of paying him back.
“If you hadn’t called the police in time, something might have happened to me.” Bai Qing sniffled, and still had lingering fear when she recalled what happened at the time. Raising her hand, she pushed an envelope over to Song Xiao, which contained 1000USD. Since she could borrow 30,000USD from her relatives, then she didn’t lack this 1000USD. In order to uphold her image, she had to return this money.
Song Xiao accepted the money and didn’t ask her where it came from, and got up to leave. “As a young girl, you shouldn’t go to that sort of place at night.”
Bai Qing looked at Song Xiao’s departing figure, her eyes filled with tears. A person she was about to harm was concerned for her and warned her from going to dangerous places. Meanwhile, her own aunt only knew how to push her towards those places.
Because of Song Xiao’s clear disappointment, Bai Qing didn’t dare look for him after that, and his surroundings instantly quieted down a lot. However, Bai Qing still needed to rely on the money Qiu Mingyan gave her for living expenses, so she didn’t dare say that she and Song Xiao had drifted apart, and instead told lies to deceive Qiu Mingyan.
“Very good. Appease him for now, and when he’s willing to go out and have fun with you, try again.” On the other end, Qiu Mingyan sneered. She didn’t believe that Song Xiao couldn’t be corrupted in four years.
Song Xiao returned to the villa with the money. The sky had already darkened, but the study room was still lit. Yu Tang was still busy with his work. He currently didn’t have a large scope of authority, so it was quite troublesome to do things as he had to communicate with each department himself.
The date of completion was in a few days, when he would have to present the final proposal at the general meeting.
“For you.” Song Xiao placed the envelope in Yu Tang’s hands.
Yu Tang didn’t even look up. “Bestow it on you.”
“You clearly know that it won’t succeed, so why bother wasting your efforts?” Song Xiao couldn’t understand. Reading the summary for the presentation on the computer, he was a little distressed. Halun University had a very intense study load. The emperor attended cla.s.ses and did his a.s.signments during the day, and still had to handle work at night. He had already become thinner in the last few days.
“Who said that zhen won’t succeed?” Yu Tang reached out and embraced Song Xiao, and had him sit in his lap. Looking at his empress’s blank face, he couldn’t help giving him a kiss. “If Yu Chuan wants to harm zhen, he’s still too inexperienced.”
On the other side, far away in Silicon Valley, Yu Qi was with his team, celebrating their new results. This was a new technology for network applications, which would be extremely useful.
“Our funds have been completely used up. We’re just one step away from completion, but without complete results, no one will invest in us.” The cla.s.smate in charge of managing the project funds sighed deeply.
At the very start, they had applied for an angel investment. The angel investor had been very interested in this project, and had given them a sum of money. However, their expenditure had far exceeded the budget. This year, every member had sh.e.l.led out a lot of money, but just as they got to the final step, the funding chain snapped.
“Qi, didn’t you say before that you found a suitable investor? Why haven’t we gotten funding yet?” A fellow who had his head lowered as he welded electrical circuits together lifted it to look at a frowning Yu Qi.
Gesturing at everyone to hold on, Yu Qi went out and gave fourth uncle, Yu Chuan, a call.
As a young genius, Yu Qi was very proud and aloof, and easily avoided talking to people in the Yu family. The reason he had been going to the recent gatherings and getting closer to fourth uncle was because his project needed Dayu Capital’s investment.
“Xiao Qi ah, wait a little longer.” Yu Chuan sighed. “You also know what laoyezi’s intentions are. Yu Tang is currently in charge of a large project, and the capital turnover isn’t very good. When Yu Tang’s project is done, I’ll sort it out for you.”
“Yu Tang?” Hearing that it was Yu Tang once again, Yu Qi was immediately furious.
On the other end, Yu Chuan laughed soundlessly and placated Yu Qi, telling him to keep calm while expressing that he himself was willing to invest in this project.
If it was a personal investment, then Yu Qi’s own father would do – why would he need to look for Yu Chuan? It was just that Yu Qi hoped to use Dayu Capital’s money so that the profits made would belong to the Yu family, and he could use this as an excuse to shine in front of laoyezi.
Yu Chuan’s meaning was also very blunt; that was, laoyezi was now focused on Yu Tang, and stealing the limelight so starkly wouldn’t be good. Moreover, it seemed that fourth uncle was biased towards Yu Tang.
After hanging up, Yu Chuan touched his chin and sneered. He was actually more optimistic about Yu Qi, who was a young genius with genuine skills, after all. The best was that he wasn’t that cunning, and was easily manipulated. Yu Tang was different; he was young, but came across as enigmatic and impossible to predict, and Yu Chuan even felt oppressed by his imposing manner.
The day before spring break, Yu Tang went to New York to do an overview of the project.
In the huge meeting room, Dayu Capital’s executives, middle management, and the managers for each project sat in their seats as they waited for Yu Tang with solemn expressions.
Actually, many were just waiting to watch a good show. A team filled with problematic members, a team leader who hadn’t even graduated, and a mess of a project that no one had wanted to take over – it would be strange if they could do well. However, this project manager was the imperial eldest grandson of the Yu family, so who knew how it would turn out.
Someone had already registered a small account on a social media site and had even finished writing a small article t.i.tled ‘Dayu Is Finished’. They were just waiting for the imperial grandson to produce a bizarre plan before releasing it on the website to have a laugh over it with everyone.
“Boss, good luck!” The team members cheered outside the door; Anna was backstage to handle the presentation slides.
Dressed in a fitting suit, Yu Tang slowly walked up, and his indifferent gaze swept over everyone. Blondie abruptly appeared with a high chair which he placed at the front. Yu Tang flicked his sleeves and sat down on the chair with an apathetic expression and a laser pointer in one hand.
“Begin ba.” Yu Chuan coughed, indicating for Yu Tang to hurry up and start. When he said this, he had the sudden feeling of a court eunuch calling out, “Court is in session”. He couldn’t help frowning as he lifted his eyes to look at Yu Tang, who had a firm and dignified gaze. He truly couldn’t like him.
Yu Tang raised a hand slightly, and backstage, Anna flipped to the introduction. The slides were clear and simple and didn’t contain any superfluous details; there was simply a clear a.n.a.lysis of the data and a calm description of the situation.
Everyone was taken aback as they listened. This project a.n.a.lysis was flawless; was it really done by a group of wastes?
“Putting together all the factors of the various aspects, we’ve decided that the final plan for this project should be…” Yu Tang looked around and calmly said one word, “abandoned.”
“Oh… Ah?” It was a long time before everyone came back to their senses. Abandoned!
“Tang, are you joking?” A Dayu executive couldn’t help speaking up. After wasting two months and consuming a large amount of manpower and resources to come up with a flawless a.n.a.lysis report, the final decision was to abandon the project! This really was the most ridiculous joke this year!
Yu Chuan also couldn’t keep a tight rein on his expression. He had a.s.sumed that even if Yu Tang discovered the problems with the project, he would still grit his teeth and persevere, ending up with an outcome without contribution or merit. Who knew that he would be this direct?
“Take a look at this.” Yu Tang used the laser pointer to gesture at a certain number, which clearly indicated that the returns for the funds invested would be low while the risks were considerably higher. “Of course, I know that everyone wants to spend this money very much. There is another proposal.”
As he spoke, another project was displayed on the screen. Both projects were for emerging industries, and the a.n.a.lysis reports were placed on the same slide. However, the data for the second project clearly looked better, and was for a new type of Internet application. As long as someone used computers regularly, they could quickly tell that it would be extremely useful.
“This is something a team of youths in Silicon Valley recently developed. In the initial stages, they had obtained very little funding through an angel investment. and are now only one final step away. If we invest in this project, we will reap an extremely profitable yield.” After showing this content to everyone, Yu Tang then invited the person in charge of this new technology to step forward and give an explanation.
“We’re not angel investors. Dayu Capital has never taken part in such a minor project before.” The vice president met Yu Chuan’s eyes and immediately voiced his objections. “Moreover, Tang, let me remind you that the company wanted you to do project A. Now, you’ve switched to project B without permission; this is already violating regulations.”
“Is that so?” Yu Tang spun the laser pointer in his hand. “I’ve already done all that I can for the previous project, and abandoning it is also just my personal suggestion. What happens next is up to the executives to decide. If Vice President Thompson believes that it’s feasible, you can proceed with it as you wish.”
With this, he lifted his chin, and the blond immediately placed the project doc.u.ment in front of the vice president, looking as if he was awaiting his signature. The vice president immediately fell silent.
Yu Tang smiled and invited the young engineer from Silicon Valley to come out. This person looked similar to Yu Tang, and had Asian features
Yu Chuan looked at the person who had walked out from backstage, and his eyeb.a.l.l.s nearly popped out.
“h.e.l.lo, everyone. My name is Yu Qi, and I’m the main developer for this application.” The person who had come was none other than Yu Qi, whose project Yu Chuan had put off investing in not long ago.
Far away in Luo City, when the Yu family head heard about what happened in Dayu Capital, he couldn’t help bursting out in raucous laughter. “These two brats, they’re really skilled.”
Hearing his elder brother praise his grandson, third grandfather Yu Taiying, who was sitting beside the family head, felt honoured as well. “I’ve long heard about the thing Xiao Qi developed. Many companies have been fighting for it, but this child is very honest, and insists on giving it to his own family.”
“Don’t let one’s own fertile water flow into someone else’s field.” The butler refilled third grandfather’s teacup with a smile.
Because of Yu Qi’s ident.i.ty, his project wouldn’t be given to Yu Tang to handle. In order to express his goodwill, Yu Chuan gave it to the best project team.
Yu Tang and Yu Qi left Dayu Capital together and looked at one another.
“Thank you, cousin.” Yu Qi thanked Yu Tang with a smile.
“I should be the one thanking you,” Yu Tang replied with a smile that wasn’t really a smile, then turned to get into his car and leave Financial Street.
Yu Qi dropped his smile and his gaze gradually turned cold. This Yu Tang’s skill at dealing with matters had exceeded Yu Qi’s previous understanding; he had to be even more careful. He raised his head to look at the tall skysc.r.a.per. As for that fourth uncle… He wasn’t a nice person, either.
When Yu Tang got home, Song Xiao had just finished his shower and was just wearing a large shirt as he lay on his belly in bed and read the a.n.a.lysis draft for the project. Going over, Yu Tang raised a hand to pull the quilt up to cover him. “Don’t you know to cover yourself with the quilt in this cold weather?”
“Your Majesty, can you help me put some money into this project?” Song Xiao poked his head out from under the quilt and waved the a.n.a.lysis report.
“Yu Qi’s project?” Yu Tang raised his eyebrows and wrapped the quilt around Song Xiao, bundling him up like he was a silkworm. “If you want money, I’ll give you as much as you want. Why do you want to invest?”
The silkworm in the tyrant’s embrace wriggled. “This servant just wants to save up a secret stash ma.”
