Chapter 28 - Wronged
Song Zicheng quarreled with Qiu Mingyan for the whole night. In order to have some peace and quiet, Song Xiao didn’t go downstairs. After eating the wontons, he fell asleep while reading.
The next morning, Song Xiao was awoken by the sound of Song Zheng beating on the door. “Ge, come downstairs to eat breakfast.”
To be called ‘ge’ made him shiver. Song Xiao ignored her and got up to go to the bathroom to shower, as it was inappropriate to meet guests with a messy appearance. Song Xiao washed his face and rinsed his mouth first, then opened the door, but didn’t expect Song Zheng to still be standing outside the door.
“Dad and Mom haven’t made up, I’ve had Auntie Chen make breakfast, so hurry up and come down to eat ba,” Song Zheng spoke fawningly. Right now, they would soon be chased out of this home. She had thought for the entire night last night, and the only ally she could think of was only Song Xiao.
Song Xiao felt somewhat amused, she knew to respect the di elder brother at this moment? He lowered his head to look at his watch. “Auntie Chen usually finishes preparing breakfast at eight. Now it’s seven thirty, so she probably hasn’t finished preparing.”
The lie she used to take credit for was instantly seen through, and Song Zheng choked for a moment, then lifted her head to take a look at Song Xiao’s room. “Ge, can I go in to speak with you?”
“Can’t.” Song Xiao walked out and closed the door to his room. How could a shu daughter sit in the di son’s room for a while? It’s truly discourteous.
Song Zheng glared unwaveringly at his back walking downstairs, hating that she couldn’t just push him down. She followed him down the stairs and sat beside him. “Ge…”
“You currently have no qualifications to call me that.” Song Xiao lifted his hand, steeping a pot of Longjing tea for himself. The early morning sunshine pa.s.sed through the full-length window to illuminate this tea room, and the fog rising from the hot tea was reflected. Arranged on the table was a set of white chinaware, and the steeped Longjing tea was just done.
No qualifications, no qualifications… The words Song Xiao had said last time, once again reverberated through her mind. ‘Go kneel in front of my mother’s tablet for a night… Otherwise, for this kind of mistress’s child with improper moral conduct like you, I will never let you into the family…’. What was he regarded as? Wasn’t it just that he was born two years earlier than her, and now received everything with no difficulty?!
Taking a deep breath, Song Zheng forced herself to calm down. But in the end, she was still just a thirteen year old middle schooler, with an uncontrollable mood, so her words couldn’t help rushing out, “Fine, Song Xiao, since you have this att.i.tude, I too have nothing good to say anymore. Just to let you know, your dad wants to marry a step-mother for you. Even if it isn’t my mom, it’s that Zhuo Jingjing, and she’s also already pregnant.”
When Song Xiao heard this, he felt a bit fed up, and lifted his cup to take a sip. The fragrant odour was delightful, but it couldn’t compare to the tribute tea from the palace in the past. Putting down the porcelain cup, he lifted his eyes to look at Song Zheng, leisurely saying, “Whom father wants to marry, is not within my influence.”
“Are you stupid? If that person gives birth to a son, do you think that you can still be as arrogant as you are right now?” Song Zheng looked at him mockingly. “Because I’m a daughter, dad would care about you this much. If there were other sons, with your stupid manner from before, he would’ve thrown you into the welfare home.”
“So?” Song Xiao lowered his head and sent a short text to Yu Tang. He had already learned all the phonetic writings. He was still not too proficient in using them, but typing out words were of no issue.
Yu Tang was in the middle of sleeping soundly on his large bed when a brief flute sound resounded from his bedside. Frowning, he groped around. If it wasn’t important, he would definitely let the other person know the outcome of disturbing a monarch who was sleeping in!
Good morning, my emperor
Four short words, and there wasn’t even any punctuation.
Yu Tang threw his body into a sitting position, staring at the screen for three seconds. Confirming that it was sent by Song Xiao, his lips split into a smile, and he fell back onto the bed, slowly rolling around once, then once again sat up. Using the posture of criticizing a memorial to hold his phone, he speedily responded.
Zitong, good morning!
Song Xiao stared at the two words ‘zitong’ for a while, and the acc.u.mulated gloominess from this morning was swept away. Zitong was a pet name from an emperor to his empress. When Yu Jintang was serious, he would call him zitong, on normal days he would call Junzhu, when he wasn’t serious… cough.
“So, Zhuo Jingjing cannot give birth to her child, the two of us should join hands, I know some people, as long as they’re given moneyk2026;” Song Zheng was still unceasingly introducing crafty plots and machinations, dragging back Song Xiao who was caught up in his memories.
“Enough.” Song Xiao waved his hand. “Written in the law, love children of both genders will have equal rights of inheritance. So to me, you aren’t any different from that embryo.”
He had finished learning middle school’s biology, and had given a scientific definition to that unborn child.
Song Zheng was trembling in anger. She had endured the humiliation in order to put forward plans and ideas for half a day, but not only was this person unconvinced, treating her as a clown to play with, he had even scolded her! These words were too vicious, saying that she wasn’t any better than a lump of meat without any sense of thought?
Reaching the end of her patience, she reached out to pick up the porcelain teapot on the table, and splashed it towards Song Xiao’s face.
The teapot was warming on coal fire, so the tea was scalding. If one was scalded by this, the result would be too horrible to contemplate.
Song Xiao instinctively grabbed the pillow by his side to block his front.
“AH—” Auntie Chen, who happened to be carrying breakfast out, saw this scene, and cried out in alarm. Knowing that Song Xiao had recently liked making tea in the morning, the coal fire in the tearoom was something she had burnt in the morning, so that water was definitely boiling water!
Song Zicheng was awakened with a start and ran out while wearing his night clothes. “What happened, what happened?”
“Xiao Zheng splashed Xiaoxiao with boiling water, my G.o.d!” Auntie Chen dropped the food in her hands and ran over, hurriedly pulling Song Xiao’s hands to look over.
Fortunately, the pillow had blocked it in time, so it hadn’t splashed onto his face, but the back of his left hand was still scalded, and had already become a large area of red.
“Hurry- Hurry up and rinse it with cold water, I’ll go look for scald ointment!” Auntie Chen hauled Song Xiao towards the washroom, turning on cold water for him to rinse.
Song Zicheng hurried down the stairs, upon seeing the series of blister on Song Xiao’s hand, his fury instantly came forth. “How did this happen?”
Song Xiao didn’t say a word, simply furrowing his brow as he rinsed his hand under the water. Hearing this, he lifted his head to give Song Zicheng a look, his eyes filled with disappointment.
A mistress’s daughter had injured the di eldest son, this was already inherently a huge wrong, does he still have to ask for the cause?
“He scolded me…” Song Zheng’s red eyes had teared up in advance. This trick was very effective in the past, complaining first meant she wouldn’t receive a scolding. But it was apparently different this time. The words hadn’t finished, and she had received a slap across the face from Song Zicheng.
“Xiao Zheng!” Qiu Mingyan, who had heard the noise from the guest room and rushed over, hurriedly hugged her daughter. “Song Zicheng, why did you hit my daughter?!”
“Splashing water on her gege with boiling water, and still not acknowledging her wrong!” Song Zicheng was furious. If Song Xiao said she hadn’t done it on purpose, he wouldn’t go so far as to take action to hit her, but to scald her brother and still wanting to push the blame on the victim, was really too dreadful. “If father scolded you in the future, would you also give me a pot of boiling water ah?!”
“Her actions are already const.i.tuted as the crime of deliberate injury,” Song Xiao dulled the pain, then took the offered ointment to apply it himself. This sort of ointment didn’t have the effect of relieving pain. When he parted from the cold water, the injury began to be unbearably painful. “Auntie Chen, report to the police ba.”
“Report to what police ah!” Qiu Mingyan immediately gave voice to stop them. “A family argued and injured accidentally, the police wouldn’t care about such idle business.”
“We’re very much not a family,” Song Xiao coldly said, and took the medical cooling plaster handed over by Auntie Chen to apply onto his wounds.
Qiu Mingyan faced Song Xiao’s gaze that was calm to the point it was unlike a high-schooler, and couldn’t help trembling. Once the police came, the matter would become huge. Tomorrow’s lead story on the front page would become ‘Pudding Gongzi Was Splashed With Boiling Water By Related Illegitimate Daughter, Risking Disfiguration’, and society’s public opinion would instantly ruin Song Zheng.
Not daring to stay any longer, Qiu Mingyan pulled the crying Song Zheng to leave quickly, leaving a house filled with disorder.
“Father truly wants to marry Zhuo Jingjing?” Song Xiao looked at the translucent blisters on his hand. If father continued to be this muddled, it was still better for him to support the family earlier.
Song Zicheng disappointedly sat on the sofa, impatiently and vexedly scratching his head. “You shouldn’t care about grownup affairs.”
Qiu Mingyan had already received the honest reputation of a mistress, while Zhuo Jingjing was still clean.
Because there had been too many negative news recently, the company’s image was damaged, the stock prices had already dropped by a lot. The company’s business had also been affected, if he married because he was taking responsibility over his girlfriend’s pregnancy, it would establish a good image for him. However, he was extremely sick of Zhuo Jingjing’s behaviour of acting on her own initiative.
Song Xiao sighed, and returned upstairs, dialling his grandfather’s phone number.
“Who is it?” A voice full of vitality pa.s.sed through the phone, however he listened, it wasn’t like an old man.
“Grandpa, I’m Song Xiao.”
When he returned to school at night, Song Xiao’s left hand was wrapped with gauze. Because of the pain of the blisters, he ultimately still went to the hospital to p.r.i.c.k them open. The gauze wrapping his left hand was very distinct, and he was afraid it would be seen by Yu Tang within a moment, so he put his left hand on his leg.
But by the time the nighttime self-study finished, Yu Tang still hadn’t come to school, and the form teacher said he had a matter at home and requested for a leave of absence.
Silently going back to the dormitory alone, the room was completely empty. Song Xiao looked at his injured hand, and pursed his lips, secretly scolding himself as immature. Saying that he was afraid it would be seen by Yu Tang, but him not seeing it still made him feel wronged.
For there to be an injury on his hand made it inconvenient for him to shower, so he carelessly washed up for a while then came out. He picked up his phone and hesitated for a while, but in the end couldn’t resist calling over.
“Are you coming back tonight?”
Yu Tang put down the doc.u.ments of Dari Media in his hands, and was silent for three seconds. “Something the matter?”
“No, just wanted to ask if I should leave the door open for you,” Song Xiao serenely said.
“No need, I’m still at home.”
To still be at home at this time, he definitely wouldn’t be able to rush back before the dorm’s lights out. Song Xiao hung up the phone, laid on his bed and took out the ‘Xiaotang Under The Moon’ he hadn’t finished.
He read this book very slowly, on the account of feeling too shameful, he didn’t dare read it when Yu Tang was around.
“Without the t.i.tle of emperor, I cannot protect him. I wish to take him as a wife, letting him be my, Yu Jintang’s, dignified and proper wife, not as a sycophant who had an affair with this prince! He is Dayu’s capable state official, not a sycophant!” Yu Jintang from the book, said words Song Xiao had never heard of before.
The Jingyuan Emperor would never say these, he would only silently do what he felt was right.
Song Xiao turned his head, looking at the empty bed across him. Pursing his lips, he bowed his head once again to continue reading. After reading for a while, he couldn’t resist raising his head to look at the bed again. Yu Tang wouldn’t come back tonight, so it probably wouldn’t matter if he slept on his bed for a while ba.
Thinking like this, Song Xiao incrementally went onto Yu Tang’s bed, and was immediately encompa.s.sed by the emperor’s scent, contentedly curving his eyes.
The second morning, Yu Tang slowly pulled open the screening curtains, and saw, on his own bed, an empress sleeping sprawled on his back.
