Starlight Has No Past
Chapter 26 Part 3
Ye Qiao had called her parent's house.
As expected, Cheng Su answered the phone. She was quite surprised to hear Ye Qiao
on the other end and asked: “You've seen the doc.u.ment?”
“En.” Ye Qiao didn't want to talk about that and quickly switched the topic: “Is my dad sick?”
Cheng Su was caught unprepared by the question, but answered after a moment of
hesitation: “......Yes. Your dad hasn't been in good health for a while now. But recently his
condition deteriorated somewhat and had to stay in the hospital for a few days. He wouldn't
let anyone tell you.”
Ye Qiao felt a lump in her throat. Though she hadn't been on good terms with her father
for years, there was an unexplainable link between them. When she saw the will, her first
reaction wasn't about the inheritance but premonition that something had happened to her
father.
Ye Qiao calmly asked: “Is it serious?”
“It depends. You know that your medical condition is hereditary. Your dad has heart
problems too and it's grown more serious as he's grown older. Though it doesn't mean
that he'll suffer a heart attack right away, it's something we have to be concerned about.”
Cheng Su clearly stated.
Ye Qiao quietly answered: “I see.”
She hung up right afterwards without saying goodbye.
Ye Qiao stood in front of the mirror inside the restroom, mind blank.
When her cell phone started to vibrate, she subconsciously picked it up and heard a
man's casual but gentle voice: “When are you coming back?”
“I'm boarding soon. I was going to call you just now.” Ye Qiao replied haltingly.
Zhou Tingsheng could sense something was wrong from the other end of the phone.
“What happened to your voice?”
Ye Qiao: “It's nothing.”
“You sound like you're going to cry.”
She spoke with a heavy, nasally sound: “Does it?”
“En.”
She heard a woman's voice in the speaker urging pa.s.sengers for her flight to board.
Ye Qiao picked up her bag and spoke in a controlled voice: “I have to board the plane now.
You're going to the airport in two hours?”
“Sure.” Zhou Tingsheng figured the timing of her arrival and asked, rather considerately:
“What do you feel like eating? I'll make a reservation in advance.”
Ye Qiao felt the lump in her throat again. “Nothing particular. Wait till I arrive then we'll see.”
Zhou Tingsheng was feeding Ophelia and Desa anchovies as he spoke and absentmindedly
threw all the anchovies, one at a time, to Ophelia. Ophelia happily pounced left and right
after each dried fish. Desa depressedly sat next to the cat and wondering why she had
suddenly fallen out of favor.
Zhou Tingsheng smiled and said: “Then I'll see you in a bit.”
Ye Qiao shouldered her bag and was ready to leave the restroom when she suddenly
called out to him as if she had thought of something: “Zhou Tingsheng.”
“En?”
Ye Qiao suddenly didn't know what to say. The announcement sounded again. There
was another call coming in on her phone. It was Shen Ting, who was undoubtedly
frantically searching for her.
In the end, Ye Qiao gave up on explaining: “Then, see you in a bit.”
