"That is amazing. The first slayer was Vladimir's sister yes?" Lucian asked.
"Yes, she was the first slayer. It is really a shocking story. When his sister was set upon by eight different types of demons coated in darkness, she should have died from her wounds. Only Vladimir came upon them and began to slay them over his sister's body. She was there, her wounds open and her heart still beating. The eight demons were killed. A witch, a changeling, a Jinn, a gargoyle, a wyvern, an Incubus, a stone demon, and a h.e.l.l hound all bled into her wounds. She was a powerful earth witch before that night, and her brother was already a vampire." She shifted on the bed sitting up on her elbow to see him.
"He gave her blood thinking to save her. She began to heal, only it was different she didn't heal at a normal rate. It was slower than normal. Which he thought was because she had been laid open by their ripping claws. When she awaked weeks later, she was different. She could do things no vampire could, she was stronger faster, and the strangest thing was she didn't need blood. Vlad was concerned. Vivian, his sister, my grandmother began learning her new body."
"Wait, your grandmother?" He asked.
"Yes, I might live to be very old Lucian. No one of slayer blood has ever died from natural causes. Not in more than a thousand years. The blood of the slayer is carried down from generation to generation, and it is completely the same as the last. Vlad had a scientist who studied our blood. Mine is the same as the first slayers." Liza paused taking a breath then continued to tell Lucian about her family.
"My grandmother had two children both girls. My mother had me and her sister had two boys. My grandmother was betrayed. Did you never wonder why Vlad had no problem with you killing his brother? It was because less than six weeks before you did he had killed my grandmother. Vlad had just discovered this and was on his way here to kill his brother when you killed him first."
"I did wonder. I thought it was just that he did not like all the killing that he had been doing in the last few years of his term." Lucian said looking at her.
"No, it was because he had killed his sister. He went back and protected my mother and her sister. He left on a short trip about two hundred years later and my mother and her sister were set upon by another vampire who knew what they were. My mother escaped, and went into hiding living as a human. Her sister and her two boys were ripped apart before my mother could save them. She was heartbroken by her loss. For a long time, until she met my father she traveled just slaying every demon with darkness coating them that she could find. Turning new slayers, she lived that way for about three hundred years." Liza knew Lucian felt her sadness when revealing her mother's story. She felt his mind surround hers while his arms wrapped around her offering comfort.
"Then she met my father about a hundred years ago, and at first she resisted having children because she feared dying and leaving them behind. My father finally convinced her twenty five years ago to try. I was born and for a time things were good. We were happy. Then she was killed, and my father went with her to her grave. He just wasn't the same man after her death. I came here more and more to get away from his hard training schedules and his need for me to always be alert. I remember being eight and he snuck into my room. He put a knife to my throat and made me fight him to get free. He did that randomly for over two years." Liza shivered at the memory.
"He did what!" Lucian roared.
"It wasn't to be cruel, Lucian. He wanted me safe. I always knew that was why. It was why I was able to kill Thomas you know."
"You killed him for touching you again." He demanded.
"Yes." Liza told him hoping he would not judge her for killing the man. He had not been coated in evil, he'd just been a cruel man.
"Good." He murmured kissing her forehead.
"Anyway then about four years ago at this very ball Vlad saw me and almost had a heart attack. I am the very image of my mother it seems. He asked my mother's name and when I told him. He was astounded. I was glad to discover that I was not alone that I had family. Not that my slayers aren't my family, but it's different. I am the last of my line, but I hope to one day not be."
"I still wish I had known what you father was doing to you when you were younger. I would have stopped him." Lucian growled.
"You were busy with the territory wars, and he made me a better warrior." Liza told him.
"That is not an excuse for cruelty, kitten." Lucian grumbled. Then he seemed to remember something. "Why do your eyes glow green, when your eyes are hazel?" He asked startling her.
"When...Ah, the fight. I wasn't able to hold the glamor." Liza realized. "The glamor muddies them."
"Drop the glamor." He demanded. "You do not need it any longer."
"Lucian, it is necessary for me to appear human. I will still be interacting with them and my eyes are eerie."
"Not here. I need to know that there are no more secrets between us, kitten. I need to have every part of you. I cannot allow you to only let me see the parts of you that you wish to show me. I need all of you." His impa.s.sioned plea along with his hand running through her hair made her sigh and drop the glamor for him.
She could remember her father's reaction every time she had dropped her glamor. She knew that it had been to protect her, but it still hurt to think of the number of time he had been cruel to her because of her lack of control. By the time she was seven she could hold the glamor without thought.
Lucian stared into her eyes, shocked by the beauty of them. The normally hazel eyes were sparks of blue and green and a swirling golden brown that seemed to wrap around the sparks.
"How could you hide such beauty? It is almost a crime." He whispered, making her heart melt.
"You know that no human has these eyes and I have to appear human."
"Not here. Not in this manor, or in this bedroom. You will not hide this beauty from me." Lucian demanded with a rumbled growl.
"Okay. Only here though, when we're alone." She felt his dark satisfaction when she responded.
"I like the idea that I am the only one with this part of you." He told her his mouth moving to kiss down her neck.
"Yes, I can tell." She whispered, her hand caressing his hardened member. She laughed as his pushed her back into the bed with a growl of need. He made love to her for three hours that night before he finally let her sleep. As they fell into a deep dreamless contentment, she thought she had finally come home for good.
Two days later, Liza was sitting in Lucian's lap in his study when a commotion in the hall made him quickly pull her shirt down to cover her b.r.e.a.s.t.s. The door opened and the several members of the council walked into Lucian's study without waiting to be announced. Liza tried to move from his lap, but he stopped her.
No you are not going anywhere. I am far from done with you, mate. Lucian's gruff voice told her. His hands squeezed her a.s.s and his lips ran down her neck.
Lucian... She began, but was interrupted by the rude voice of Herbert the small vampire who had burst through the door first. He was Lauren's, the spelled girl from the ball, father.
"See I told you, he is spelled. He cannot even stop with the disgusting display when we are present." Herbert sneered.
"Herbert, I keep telling you that he is not spelled. That is ridiculous. He is bonded to her." Tobias a dark-haired vampire, who's territory was close to Marcus's stated.
"He is! I am telling you that he is." The little man roared.
"What is this about gentlemen? As you can see I am attending to important matters and I do not have the patience for this today." Lucian drawled, glaring at the men standing just inside the study.
She could feel the anger pouring off him as he watched the four men stand there.
"I am sorry, sire. They burst past me and Dominick is out." Toby said from the hallway.
"It is fine, Toby. I will handle this." Lucian snarled.
Liza was evaluating this, Herbert seemed very agitated, oddly so. She remembered Tara and her friend who were spelled and suddenly she knew. She leaned forward her lips moving up the side of Lucian's neck as he leaned back to allow her better access. She watched Herbert's reaction. His mouth tightened.
"You barged in here, and you seem to be very agitated, Herbert. It is strange. You know I have been thinking, Morvan did not have the subtlety to arrange for two women to be spelled to distract everyone, but you seem very sure that is what happened the other day. Now, you seem very sure that Lucian is spelled by me. How odd. I also see a bit of that dark aura clinging to your hands. How very odd that I saw it on two women so recently." Liza spoke from Lucian's lap.
"That is insane. I would never do such a thing! You are allowing her to accuse your council of treason now? I will have you arrested for treason, young lady. I know you have spelled our king." Herbert yelled.
"That is not going to happen. I also find it strange that your daughter was spelled. It seems a bit convenient." Lucian's cold voice stated as guards moved into the room.
"That is not true. My daughter is mentally ill. I did not know." Herbert cried.
"I find it very odd you would say that, Herbert. You see I had Morgana look at her and she was definitely spelled. I think perhaps we should have you tested for those same bonds, and your home searched for the spells. Just to be a.s.sured that you have not spelled your own daughter of course." Lucian informed the man motioning for the guards to grad him.
They took Herbert who began screeching about how that little b.i.t.c.h had ruined everything.
"Call my queen that again and I will kill you." Lucian roared, only calming when Liza's hand slid up and down his arm.
It was short work for the man to be dragged out and the council apologized, then left. Liza soothed his frayed nerves with kisses and caresses. Later she admitted that discovering that one piece of the puzzle that had been nagging at her, made her feel relieved.
Epilogue.
Liza was reading a book in the library when Mina blinked in already ranting. Liza closed her book and set it on the table beside her not needing to ask of whom she spoke.
"That man is going to drive me insane!" She screeched, glaring at her queen. Over the last three months Mina had come to her more than a dozen times ranting about Dominick.
Dominick was following her calmest advisor around like a lost puppy. Mina, her normally cool headed advisor was rattled, which meant that no matter how she protested, she was interested in the man. Otherwise his appearances would not get under her skin as it seemed to.
Mina had been hurt very badly by her last lover. He had been an imp and when he tired of Mina he had sold her to a human slaver at the demon market. That was where she had found Mina. She had saved the ten slaves from the demon, and changed Mina into a slayer. Since Deek, the dead boyfriend, she had never dated again. It was unhealthy and she was glad that someone had rattled her friend's cage.
"What has Dominick done now?" She asked, sighing as she folded her hands in her lap.
"He cast some sort of tracking spell on me, and the d.a.m.ned man keeps showing up when I go hunting. I sense a demon, and I go to take care of it and poof like magic the idiot appears. Then he has the never to tell me he will handle it! He will handle it. Like I can't!" Mina was ranting her hands flying in the air and her breath coming in pants she was so agitated.
Trying not to laugh at her friend's obvious distress she tried to calm her down. "I'm sure that is frustrating." Liza replied.
"Really? That is all you're going to say? Really?" Mina demanded, glaring at her.
"What would you like for me to say, Mina?" She asked watching her innocently.
"That you will demand that he remove this infernal spell. You're his queen now. He will have to listen to you."
Liza snorted, "Ha! That man listens to no one. Lucian is lucky that he accepts his council. Because that man does not take orders from anyone."
"He can't keep poofing in wherever he wants and taking over! I can't take it. Why won't he just leave me alone?" Mina demanded.
"I don't know. Have you tried blocking the spell?" She asked.
"Yes, Liza I have tried blocking the spell. I even asked Morgana to help, and the next time I entered a fight there he was. I can't figure out how he is doing it, and it's making me crazy!" Mina threw her hands in the air, her frustration evident.
Liza had an idea how he was able to do it, and she was quite sure that Morgana had told Mina. At some point Mina had shared blood with the vampire, and he was able to place the spell on that blood knowledge, which allowed him to sense when she was going into battle. She also knew that if Mina had allowed him to have her blood then she was much more than interested in Dominick than Liza had thought. That was good news because the man seemed to be obsessed with her.
"I can see that you will be no help. I don't know why I even came here to talk to you about it. I hate that you are a 'handle it yourself' kinda queen, not a 'let me take care of it' kind." She growled before she blinked out the same way she had blinked in ranting to herself and anyone who would listen. Standing, she walked to the french doors looking out.
She was angry. She felt Lucian amus.e.m.e.nt through the bond. Then she felt his arms wrap around her from behind.
Yes, she was unhappy with Dominick again. She lay her hands over his arms, leaning back into him.
Dominick is not happy with her either.
Lucian told her laughing as his lips caressed the side of her neck. Her heart rate picked up thumping against her chest as his own enjoyment of the caress rippled through her. Turning in his arms she wrapped hers around his neck kissing him.
I suppose they will figure it out eventually. Now, make love to me. She demanded as he devoured her mouth with his own.
Always, kitten. I love you, my queen.
And I you, my king.
Toby heard thumping sounds as he pa.s.sed the library, but he didn't bother to investigate. He had learned over the past months to ignore the loud thumps, and strange sounds that seemed to be happening all over the manor. He was unsure why his king and queen felt the need to show their shared pa.s.sion with indecent displays of wildness in nearly every room they entered alone. With a shake of his grey head, he continued on his way to the kitchen for lunch. He might as well, his king was unlikely to want to go over the household accounts for several hours. He heard another loud thump from the room and shook his head. Indecent behavior, he thought, smiling.

Finding Charity Tick Copeland wanted to pull his hair out. He'd been following her trail for days, and he was no closer to bagging his quarry than he had been a week ago. It was really p.i.s.sing him off. He had a son he needed to get back to. A son without a mother to care for him, he thought, his heart squeezing a bit in his chest. After two years he still missed Vivi. She'd been a comet he was lucky enough to hold onto. Only the universe had stolen her from him and their young son. The damage from the flood that had swept away his dreams of holding onto that woman for the rest of his life was repaired as if it had never happened. Yet, he and his six year old son, Max, felt the reminders every day. Every day that Vivi didn't wake Max with kisses, every day she didn't tickle him as she put him to bed, every day she didn't whisper "Be Safe" to Tick as he went out on some club errand. Yeah, they remembered every f.u.c.king day.
He was finally able to realize that even if she was gone she would want him and Max to move on. Vivi had loved life, she'd been so alive she'd vibrated with it. He still wasn't sure what the h.e.l.l she'd seen in a busted up biker like him. f.u.c.k, he thought, wanting to stop remembering the pain of his loss that still caused a twinge when he reminisced like he was today. Bone had sent him on this errand to retrieve a woman who needed to be spanked, running off was childish and kinda stupid. The world outside of the sheltered life she'd led with the Devils wasn't friendly to women who were alone. Not that she was, or ever would be.
He'd been p.i.s.sed when Bone had called him and told him to go chasing after some foolish girl who was acting like a five year old. He'd wanted to ask the man why the h.e.l.l he had to go, he'd been sure that any prospect with half a brain could bring her back. Only after two days did he realize why Bone had called him. She was good, d.a.m.ned good. If he wasn't better, she'd already be long gone without a trace.
That was why he was sitting in a rundown motel in Blue Bandit territory ready to pull his hair out. He was thirty years old, which was too f.u.c.king old to be chasing a woman. If he wasn't worried that a woman sheltered all her life by her brother and the club would run into trouble she couldn't handle, he'd call Bone and tell him she'd disappeared.
Sitting on the edge of the bed he pulled out his phone, calling Ratchet. He was keeping Max while he was chasing a foolish woman with a death wish.
"About d.a.m.ned time you called me back, a.s.shole." Ratchet growled, instead of a greeting.
"What did Max do now?" Tick demanded with a sinking feeling in his gut.
"What he hasn't done would take less time, Tick. Little b.u.g.g.e.rs a pain in the a.s.s. You need to find that d.a.m.ned girl and get back here before I go bats.h.i.t crazy." Ratchet growled.
Over the last two years his son had turned into a h.e.l.lion. It was likely all his fault too, Tick realized. When Vivi had died he'd given up for a while, and then when he'd finally woke up, Max's misbehavior had been excused as grief over his mother's death. Now, Tick thought, groaning internally, the little b.u.g.g.e.r needed discipline.
"Just tell me what he's done, Ratchet." Tick demanded, letting out a rough sigh.
"Maria was watching him today at the main house while I was out working the perimeter. She went out to feed the pigs, and when she opened the door coming back inside she was dowsed in milk from a bucket about the door. Then she hears laughter and the little s.h.i.ts are standing there laughing their little a.s.ses off."
"I'm guessing that Conner or Alex were involved." Tick ran his hand down his face, his frustration mounting. Conner was nine and Alex was seven, the three of those boys were thick as thieves, and his son was their ring leader.
"Both, and when are they not? After all every little mastermind needs his lackeys to do his bidding." Ratchet practically roared into the phone.
"It night had been Conner or Alex's idea you know, it's not always Max's fault." Tick defended his son, although he knew that it was not very likely that it was true.
"Ha, you know as well as I do that it was Max. Besides Conner's mom showed up and he sang like a canary. He's actually afraid to get into trouble with his mother." Ratchet told him.
f.u.c.k, he really was a s.h.i.tty dad, Tick thought self-deprecatingly. "That's really a small prank for him..."
Ratchet interrupted. "Oh, I'm not done that was just this morning. Tick, you have got to discipline that boy better!"
"What else did he do?" Tick asked, falling back onto the bed in exhaustion. f.u.c.k, he was tired.
"Let see, he let the dogs into the coops again. We lost three chickens this time. While I was helping the men deal with that, the little b.u.g.g.e.r decided that the pigs needed more exercise, and he herded them into the meadow with the cows. That took four hours and ten men to round them all back up. I made him help with that as part of his punishment then sent him for a timeout in his room. So what does the little s.h.i.t do? He sneaks out and heads over to the main house, where he steals two of the three pies that Maria made for the bon-fire tonight, and took them over to their treehouse where he shared them with Conner and Alex." Ratchet finally stopped listing thing, thank goodness. f.u.c.k, his kid was out of control. "You need to get back here and reign that boy in before one of us kills him." Ratchet finally finished.
Tick didn't worry about his son's safety. He knew that Ratchet and the other men in the club wouldn't hurt him no matter what the little monster decided to do. They loved him as much as Tick did.
"I'm working on it. I still haven't found her." Tick told his friend, letting out a frustrated sigh.
