"Where am I? Who are you?" I asked as I looked around, examining the room.
"You're alive," she said, what she told me did not make any sense. She had seductive cat eyes which were hypnotizing me as I glanced at her for far too long.
"I am Mitsuko Kitsuname and you are at one of Naeyriv's dorm. You must be the metin rae, you're like the new exciting gossip around here."
"Everyone knows me?"
"You are quite popular, even at Seleanor."
"Where?"
"The royal city, there are so many things you still don't know."
"I guess, I don't."
"Don't worry, stay with me and I'll show you everything."
"How did I get here? I was doing a test and now I'm here."
"The tersen test, you actually fainted, they say most of the time everyone dies. Thinking about it you are the only one who survived, but you're not really a tersen. I would feel lucky if I were you."
"They didn't tell me this at the beginning of the test."
"Imagine if they told you to do a test where there is a high percentage of you dying, you wouldn't do it, but if you didn't, they would have killed you anyway, so maybe you would, I don't know."
"Okay, then I guess it's good for me. I'm alive?"
I needed to go outside, the girl was quite eccentric even for my own standard.
"Oh, you can't go outside," she insisted.
"Did you just read my thoughts?"
"It is something our family can do, not everyone but most of us can."
"Why can't I go outside?"
"Syrda's Haras."
"What?"
"I forget you are new to everything, it's a test."
"I'm not doing another one!"
"It is just a contract made through the chalice of Syrda between four yirais."
"What type of contract?"
"The chalice chooses the reymir or as you would call it the leader of the group, every one of us needs to drink from it. By Syrda's law, the reymir cannot be touched or killed by the haras."
"The haras?"
"The other three yirais are the haras. We make a contract to always protect the reymir and vice versa."
"I think my head will explode with all this nonsense!"
"You just need time to adapt through all of this."
"So, are we in the same group?"
"Yes, I even know who the other two are."
"Who are they?"
"Nathan Zirken and the rae yirai Robert Ukreni."
"Robert? What is a rae yirai?"
"It means he's a half yirai and half nyrae."
"I already know him, he did mention before he was half something."
"This is good, it's better for the group if you already know him."
"What about this Nathan?" I asked.
"Nathan, he's different."
"What do you mean by different?"
"He has a bit of a temper, especially with people which might not be like him, such as yourself."
"So, I already have a friend."
"But he will change once you get to know him."
I doubt he would have, I needed more than just time.
"Don't worry, it might seem weird at first, but with time you'll be fine," she said.
"Are you still reading my mind?"
"It's not my fault, your thoughts are really loud, and I am still trying to control myself."
"Well, then I'll try not to think as loudly next time."
I suddenly heard a blasting knock, as someone came in, she reminded me of Hayley strangely enough, except for the pointy ears and fair skin, "Sarah Wilson and Mitsuko Kitsuname, you're next, follow me into Syrda's room," she said.
"Sure, Ms Frehall," Mitsuko said.
I was shaking at the thought of doing another test, what if it was as dreadful as the previous one. I did not feel my usual self, I have never been a coward or someone who would have been easily scared. While I was immersed in my thoughts, I saw Mitsuko gripping my hand firmly, as she tried to stop my nervous trembling.
"You won't be alone," she whispered.
It was peculiar how despite knowing her for such a limited amount of time, I could perceive as she rea.s.sured me, a familiar sensation which made me feel secure.
