Lynn watched her and smiled. "The remote, please?"
Chris felt her face turn even redder, if that was possible. She padded back down the hall, withdrew the remote control from the band of her shorts, and handed it to Lynn.
Lynn reached, lingering on Chris's fingers still grasping the device. Chris, feeling an inner spark run through her body, immediately released it.
"Good night," Chris whispered. She turned and backed her way down the hall.
ae"Night!" Lynn called after her in satisfaction.
Chapter Twelve.
Chris slid into the booth at the cafe and caught Lynn's eye across the room. Lynn finished with her customer and made her way over to the booth.
"Hey, I thought you had some kind of lab cla.s.s this afternoon." Lynn looked at her watch. "It's only one-thirty."
Chris smiled. "My lab was canceled this afternoon. Can you get away early? I thought maybe we could go catch a movie."
Lynn looked around the restaurant. It wasn't that busy. Then she caught herself. Sitting close to Chris, in a dark place* maybe she shouldn't. She was still h.o.r.n.y from last night.
"What? Come on, it's not that busy in here!" Chris whined.
Lynn smiled, and against her better judgment, agreed to leave in fifteen minutes. Grabbing a paper from the counter, she placed it in front of Chris so that she could review the movie times while she asked another waitress to cover for her, "My truck or your car?" Lynn asked as they walked out into the warm sun.
"Look at my car. Do you really want to go anywhere in that car?" Chris joked.
The two slid into the truck and headed to the movie theater.
"So what are we seeing?" Lynn asked.
"If I tell you, you'll probably turn around and go back to work, so let's just let it be a surprise." Chris smiled mischievously.
"Great. Some romantic flick, right? Look, I like a good romantic movie as well as the next guy*er*woman, but I just don't think it's a good idea," Lynn explained.
"Shut up and drive, woman!"
Lynn parked the truck in the parking garage next to the theater and opened Chris's door for her.
"Man, I hardly ever get a man to open my door for me!" Chris exclaimed.
"Well, maybe you've just been dating the wrong gender, ma'am," Lynn kidded.
Chris slid out and they walked to the ticket booth. Lynn grabbed Chris's hand from her wallet, pulled out the money from her own pocket, and paid for the tickets.
"Struggling student, remember?" Lynn looked at Chris and smiled.
The women entered into the lobby where they were met with the heavenly aroma of freshly popped corn and warm b.u.t.ter.
"Popcorn?" Lynn asked, already knowing the answer.
Chris smiled and nodded. "I'll go to the bathroom while you get it, okay?"
Lynn purchased the popcorn and soda and was leaving the line when she answered a tap on her shoulder. Thinking it was Chris, she swung around with a smile. The smile quickly faded when she turned to find* Susan.
"h.e.l.lo, stranger," Susan said seductively.
Lynn felt the blood draining from her face and her knees beginning to buckle. Susan reached up to trace the line of hoops in Lynn's ear.
"You look great, Lynn. I hardly recognized you with your hair so short. I love the earrings, they make you look so s.e.xy."
Lynn promptly removed her hand and backed away.
"Is that any way to greet me? After all we had together?" Susan questioned, moving again toward Lynn.
"Oh, yes, I'm sorry, forgive my manners. We parted on such good terms, didn't we?"
"You never let me explain, Lynn. You disappeared without letting me explain," Susan said in her bedroom voice. Placing her hand on Lynn's cheek, she continued, "Let's go somewhere and talk."
Just then, Chris walked up and cleared her throat. Lynn pushed Susan's hand away from her face.
Lynn quickly made introductions. "Chris, Susan. Susan, Chris."
"Susan?" Chris said as she felt her heart drop.
Susan swung around to find Chris staring at her. "Is this who you're f.u.c.king now, Lynn? A little young, isn't she?"
Chris looked at Lynn, and seeing the shock and hurt in her eyes, decided to answer the question herself.
"The answer would be yes. Of course we don't really like to call it aef.u.c.king,' Susan, we prefer aemaking love.'" Chris paused as if remembering something, then looking at Lynn she smiled mischievously and began again. "Well, I guess we could call that time under the pier aef.u.c.king' and that time in the restroom in that Mexican restaurant, that was definitely aef.u.c.king.' G.o.d, this whole subject is making me quite hot*" Chris fanned herself with her hand.
"So has she lived up to her reputation? You know, the best at everything she does?" Susan asked sarcastically.
"Well, I don't know about her reputation, but it's the best s.e.x I've ever had," Chris answered with a straight face.
"Yes, she is good. But then again you haven't had me," Susan snapped back.
Lynn felt her blood flowing again and took her turn. "She wouldn't have you, Susan. She's a much better judge of character than I obviously was."
Susan acted shocked. "Lynn Gregory, are you actually admitting you made an error in judgment? Wow! Miss Perfect made a mistake!"
Lynn raised her voice and felt her face turn red. "If you remember my temper at all, I suggest you leave before you see it again."
Susan raised her hands in surrender and looked at Chris while backing away "If you ever want to try a real woman, I believe Lynn has my number," she said.
Lynn was livid. How dare she say those things! And to say that Chris was too young? After all, most of her affairs had been with her own students, college students. And right in front of her, to make a pa.s.s at her date* Lynn stopped. Chris was not her date.
Chris stepped toward Lynn and put her hand on her arm. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, thanks for stepping in like that," Lynn replied Chris took the snacks from Lynn and motioned for her to lead the way to the theater. The two walked into the darkness and took their seats. Lynn chose seats at the back, to the side.
"So, you have a temper, huh?" Chris smirked.
"Yeah, not something I'm real proud of," Lynn admitted and lowered her eyes.
Chris smiled, remembering what Lynn did to the man in the cafe the other day "Well, I saw what you did to that guy in the cafe. If you have a temper to go with that*"
"Don't worry. I've really been working on it. I'm as cool as a cuc.u.mber these days!" Lynn a.s.sured her.
The lights went dim, signaling the start of the movie trailers. A couple wandered in and took seats just down the row. Lynn watched as they seated themselves.
"Oh, great!" Lynn exclaimed. Chris turned to see what was going on just as Susan gave them a little wave.
"Just ignore her and enjoy the movie. I'm here to protect you," Chris soothed her.
The movie trailers over, the main feature began. Lynn tried to calm her racing heart, though she wasn't sure if it was due to Susan, or because Chris's knee was resting against hers. Lynn talked herself into concentrating on the movie, and was enjoying the plot until she felt a hand on her knee.
Chris leaned over and whispered into Lynn's ear, "Susan's watching. You can take my hand if you want to continue our aecharade.'"
Lynn's racing heart came to a stop. She felt short of breath. Why did this woman do this to her? Ignoring the question in her mind, she slowly took Chris's hand into her own. Chris intertwined their fingers and snuggled her body closer. Lynn didn't care that Susan was there anymore, she just wanted this movie to last forever.
The picture continued, right into the scene where the two main characters made love for the first time. Lynn was embarra.s.sed as she felt her hands getting sweaty.
Chris must have noticed, too, as she released her hand and leaned over to whisper to Lynn again. "Why don't you put your arm around me?" she suggested.
Lynn hesitated but remembered that they were seated in a safe area. No one could really see the activity in the back by the wall. Lynn always sat there just for that reason.
Lynn slowly raised her arm and slid it around Chris's shoulder. She absentmindedly caressed the skin on Chris's upper arm. Chris moved even closer. Now Lynn was praying for the movie to end. Here she was watching two people having s.e.x on the screen, and with the excitement of Chris's body so close, she thought she might explode.
Luckily, Lynn made it to the end of the movie. She hoped Chris wouldn't want to discuss the plot on the way home. She hadn't really paid attention to anything since she had placed her arm around Chris's shoulder. The movie credits rolled onto the screen and Lynn reluctantly removed her arm from its position. Chris rested her hand on Lynn's arm and remained seated tightly next to Lynn. They sat in this position until the lights were raised and the people began shuffling out.
"Good movie, huh?" Susan said to the couple as she stood, completely ignoring the woman she was with.
Lynn simply looked up and said, "Good-bye, Susan."
Susan huffed and ushered her date down the aisle, leaving Chris and Lynn alone.
"Well, I think that went quite well, don't you?" Chris asked sofdy as she looked straight ahead.
"Uh-huh," was all Lynn could get out of her mouth. She decided that she'd rather concentrate on cooling down the heat between her legs than make conversation at that moment.
Chris wasn't in a hurry to move either. She looked down to her nipples hoping that they weren't showing her arousal. Unfortunately, they were. Chris crossed her arms, hiding the protruding lumps. She didn't understand. She had never been that aroused simply by having a man's arm around her. But yet here she was. She had been turned on just by Lynn's hand in hers. Finally, feeling her chest returning to normal, she stood.
"Ready?" Chris asked.
Lynn nodded, stood, and made her way down the aisle followed closely by Chris. The two exited the auditorium and made their way through the lobby.
Upon their approach, an employee swung the exit door open and asked, "Was the movie good?" He looked confused as the women walked out the door and both muttered under their breath, "What movie?"
The two walked to the truck in silence. Lynn opened the door for Chris and then proceeded to open her door and slide in behind the wheel, all in silence. It wasn't until they had pulled onto the city street that Chris dared to ask the question that was on her mind.
"So, this is the first time that you've seen her?"
Lynn sighed heavily. "Yeah."
Turning toward Lynn, Chris continued, "Was she always so*"
"Brash?" Lynn finished her sentence.
Chris chuckled. "Yeah, brash, that's a good description."
"I guess so," Lynn answered. "I hadn't really seen it that way before."
"Can I ask what you saw?"
"I think I just admired her self-confidence."
Chris shook her head slowly. "I just can't imagine you with her."
Lynn laughed. "I'm glad. I guess that I've changed a lot in the past year."
Several minutes pa.s.sed as Lynn replayed in her mind everything that Susan had said. Had Susan really believed that Lynn thought of herself as perfect? Had that been the problem?
"If it matters at all, I don't think you're perfect."
Lynn snapped her head toward the direction of the statement. "How did you know*"
Chris softly smiled and shrugged. "I just knew that it would bother you."
"Well, your opinion matters a great deal. But do I act like I think that I'm perfect?"
"Sometimes." Then laughing, Chris continued, "But I never take you seriously!"
Lynn joined in Chris's laughter. "You and Matt, you're really good for me."
Chris turned forward and pretended to dust off the dashboard. "So* you wouldn't mind keeping in touch with me after this little charade is over?"
Lynn's heart burst with happiness. She tried to calm her voice before answering. Unfortunately, her brain and tongue did not cooperate. "I'd love to touch*" Lynn's face turned red. "What I meant was*"
Chris smiled softly and her eyes warmed Lynn's heart. "I'll take that as a yes."
"Whose car is that?" Lynn asked as they climbed out of her truck in front of the house.
Chris shrugged. "Are you sure it isn't another one of your old girlfriends? They seem to be coming out of the woodwork today."
