Mu Rulan looked at the lock on the bathroom door . Inside her heart, she mumbled in realization that the lock was broken .
She smiled warmly . “Good morning Mr . Mo . Your soap smells very nice . ”
“If you’re done here please leave . I need to use the restroom,” Mo Qianren said, continuing to stare at the soap Mu Rulan was holding .
She nodded . As she went to put the soap back, she noticed, “Mr . Mo, your ears are red again…” Translated by The Novelst
As she wondered why, her eyes widened . “This… Don’t tell me Mr . Mo uses this to… wash underwear?”
Since there was already a soap dispenser at the sink, in a bathroom that only Mo Qianren used, the soap was obviously not used to wash only the body . So it wasn’t that hard to guess this .
“Get out,” Mo Qianren said, feeling his ears getting hotter as he looked Mu Rulan in the eyes, watching them grow larger as though she had found out something uncommon . It made him feel very strange .
Mu Rulan tried to hold back her laughter and returned the soap to its place . She washed her hands clean and then left . The bathroom door shut behind her and only then did she laugh so hard her eyes turned to slivers .
Advertis.e.m.e.ntIt was the first time she had met a man who washed his own underwear . Normally men would throw their underwear together with their clothes into the washing machine to wash them together .
And Mo Qianren’s reaction was really too cute! It was an enormous contrast to his usual high-intelligence appearance . Just imagining the cold, n.o.ble man holding up his sleeves to wash his underwear in the sink was too moe and funny!
Mu Rulan laughed soundlessly as she walked to the window to see Lu Zimeng’s car returning .
After a while, she heard the door unlock . It was probably Lu Zimeng trying to sneakily open the door .
The door opened a crack . Lu Zimeng took a peek inside and met a black-eyed gaze and his heart skipped a beat in fear .
“Mr . Lu,” Mu Rulan said, pulling the door opened . Her face indicated surprised at the fear on his face, “What’s wrong?”
Lu Zimeng took a step back, his expression stiff as he shook his hands, “N-Nothing . I-I brought breakfast, has Qianren woken yet?”
“Mr . Mo is in the bathroom . ”
Lu Zimeng nodded, turning around to return to his room . . All the nasty thoughts he had before opening the door had vanished, and in their place echoed the words Mo Qianren had said to him before: psycho, murderer…
The more he thought the more frightened he became . He remembered that Mo Qianren, the internationally renowned criminal psychologist honored by the FBI, had come to K City just for a girl he hadn’t met before . Was it… really that Mo Qianren was thinking too much?
“Mr . Lu,” said a soft voice behind him . Lu Zimeng’s whole body shuddered and he froze .
Mo Qianren spoke out the next second and Lu Zimeng sighed in relief . He turned back to see Mo Qianren standing next to Mu Rulan . He took a few more glances at her, thinking how scary it was that she could be a psycho .
They had breakfast all together, and then Mu Rulan left for the bathroom .
Once Mo Qianren began planning to send Mu Rulan back home, Lu Zimeng couldn’t hold back and sidled up to Mo Qianren . “Eh, eh, you said before that Mu Rulan is a psycho . Are you serious?”
Mo Qianren stared at him, deadpan . “Whether she is or isn’t, you don’t have to concern yourself with it . Just mind your own business . ”
“Oi!” Lu Zimeng was a little anxious .
Mo Qianrent took a sip of coffee . “Why are you getting so pumped up?”
“How can I not?” squeaked Lu Zimeng . Realizing his voice was a little too high, he checked that Mu Rulan hadn’t come out of the bathroom yet and continued, “A psychopath! What a scary word; who would want someone like that near them? I get nightmares just thinking of it!”
“Who told you that psychopaths are scary?” Mo Qianren sent him a cold look . “The term psychopath is just a name for a mental illness . Robert D . Hare categorized them in three ways: the primary psychopath, the neurotic psychopath, and the dyssocial psychopath . Among them, only the primary psychopath is the “true” psychopath; not every kind do creepy things like murder people or eat human flesh . ”
“The last time you gave me an example . Who was that again…” Lu Zimeng was puzzled by the professional terminology . He could only remember Mo Qianren telling him something about the Texas Chainsaw Ma.s.sacre and a primary psychopath .
“I can give you another case of the primary psychopath . You want to hear more?”
“…What?” Translated by The Novelst
“Ferdinand Waldo Demara was The Great Imposter . He masqueraded as many people and through several professions by forging doc.u.ments . Once he obtained identification that belonged to a Harvard doctor of psychology named French . Before that he had joined the Navy but was unable to reach the position he wanted, so he faked his suicide and the Navy believed it . So he used the name French to become a professor to teach a few psychology courses and management work .
“He became good friends with a young doctor named Joseph C . Cyr, and through this friendship he gleaned some basic medical knowledge . He even copied some of Cyr’s personal doc.u.ments, like his birth certificate, baptism, qualifications, school results, and even his physician’s license .
“After that, he joined the Royal Canadian Navy as a trauma surgeon during the Korean War; he was sent to a destroyer . There were sixteen Korean combat casualties who were taken aboard for emergency treatment . Among them were three at death’s door, requiring major surgery .
“He had never even seen the operation performed before and so disappeared into his room to speed-read the various surgeries that he had to perform in a textbook . Then, he went ahead to perform those surgeries without experience . That day, not only did he save those three, he treated all thirteen other patients as well .
“Soon after, Demara became famous . The real Dr . Cyr realized that his name was being used and so revealed this act . ”
Mo Qianren’s voice was matter-of-fact and gave Lu Zimeng a comforting feeling . He had always been reticent and so it was rare to see him talk so much at once . Lu Zimeng had been fully absorbed in his storytelling .
As he wrapped the story up, the panic Lu Zimeng had earlier had already vanished .
