The building was forced to stop construction because of the murder case.
Mo Qianren walked leisurely up to the third floor, his gaze intently scanning through each and every corner, all sorts of thoughts in his head.
The whole building had only the very base constructed: even the cement stairs were still full of pits and railings had not yet been installed.
The police had already collected their discoveries and left before sunrise. The insides of the building were empty and the only living being there was Mo Qianren. Translated by The Novelst
The green gauze that surrounded the building was blown up by the wind, a little wooden piece tangled in the gauze kept hitting the walls, causing a continuous crackling sound to ring out.
Outside the third floor, there was an enormous splat of blood. The police had found a silvery thread and a lollipop on the ground. And coincidentally, Mo Qianren had seen that very type of thread in the bas.e.m.e.nt of Mu Rulan's house; he had also seen that kind of lollipop in Mu Rulan's very own hand, and on the day itself.
There was no saliva or fingerprints to be found on the lollipop, and the person who had stepped on it was proven to be w.a.n.g Qiang. That kind of lollipop was sold at TMT Candy House, and they sold millions of that very type every single day.
Who knew how long it might take to track down the culprit by basing their investigation on those premises? Especially since that thread didn't have any fingerprints other than those of w.a.n.g Qiang.
The only two available pieces of evidence available had dropped in value by at least half. But the effect was still evident, and the police began investigating the origins of the thread.
The composition of those kinds of threads was special, the quality much better than a high-quality piano string. Not just anyone could afford this type of thread.
So long as they could find out the type of person who had purchased the lollipop and the thread, they could narrow down the field of suspects.
However, Mo Qianren was not the kind of person to wait.
He had already confirmed that the person to kill w.a.n.g Qiang was Mu Rulan, so he wanted to find not only evidence but her motives and methods.
How had she made him die as she wanted without leaving even a trace behind, especially when she was absent from the scene?
The ground was messy. There were wood shavings, electric drills, and nails scattered all around. In the front, there was a window that hadn't yet been sealed. This was where the opening of the gauze allowed w.a.n.g Qiang to fall out.
Mo Qianren walked slowly to the opening, his gaze scanning the floor. The traces of blood hadn't been cleaned yet, the dark red color blooming like a flower on the ground, looking especially shocking.
Liu Mian was outside the building, looking up. She saw a handsome man standing impressively by the edge, both hands in his pockets and a cold expression in his eyes as he gazed out the window.
Something flickered in her eyes, signaling her determination. She pulled on a charismatic smile and entered the building.
Mo Qianren didn't even notice her there, standing in his place as an image began to form in his head -
In the dark night, a skinny, middle-aged man rushed all the way to the site, seeming determined to make his way to the building. However, he didn't realize there was a lollipop on the ground, so he stepped on it and stumbled, his body toppling forward. When he almost hit the floor, his neck seemed to get tangled up in something in the dark.
The weight of a grown man struggling with the silvery thread activated some sort of mechanism and the man was thrown out. His weight pulled the thread all the way to the second floor but due to the strength of the thread, it hung him up and began to eat through the flesh on his neck until the blood was nearly all strangled out.
The man continued to struggle, causing the thread to shake even harder, but unable to make any noise. In the end, the thread went the entire way through, and so his head separated from his body. Right at that instant, the blood in his body surged out like rain, splattering all over the place and on to Ke Wanqing.
The mechanism that controlled the thread had achieved the critical weight point and with a soundless motion, the thread detached from the mechanism and fell on to a pole.
And all of this happened within 10 seconds' time…
Mo Qianren's gaze sharpened and he quickly turned to run toward the only floor with a balcony.
The balcony was almost equal to eight floors, which was how high it was.
It was the same as the floors below, with construction materials scattered over the ground. But since no one had visited yesterday, it remained as it was.
At the edge of the balcony where Ke Wanqing had stood, there was a roller that was used to pull things up and down, and not far away there was a long, silver nail. This kind of nail Mo Qianren had seen before in Mu Rulan's bas.e.m.e.nt.
The string atop the roller was connected to another wall, and below that there were a few bags of cement. A few of the bags were laying directly on the ground while one of the bags had fallen over outside the building. The ground was also covered in obvious marks where rope had rubbed against it…
In an instant, Mo Qianren understood it all. Translated by The Novelst
Just as hunters prepared traps to capture their prey, where the moment the prey stepped into it, it had no room to escape.
Mu Rulan had used traps on this kind of situation. Her criminal tools of choice were a wheeler, a nail, a few bags of cement, a thread, a rope, and a lollipop.
She had tied the thread to the thick rope that connected to the wheeler. The other side of the rope was tied to five bags of cement to outweigh an adult man, and then she had used the nail to fix the position of the wheeler and the rope.
The wheeler couldn't spin and thus was held in the air by the cement, while the threads were set up in their carefully calculated positions on the third floor. The moment w.a.n.g Qiang rushed inside, he would fall at the angle she calculated and his head would fall into the trap.
Due to the man's heavy weight, the thread was immediately pulled taut, which triggered the other side of the rope, flinging the nail that had kept the wheeler in place out. The bags of cement dropped down and threw w.a.n.g Qiang out of the building.
After he had died and fallen down, the weight had exceeded its tipping point and detached itself from the rope and fell right there on the third floor. The five bags of cement also fell down on top of the other bags and one had even fallen outside of the building.
