The Unexpected Discovery Of Love 22 Acquisition

He got into the house, she was lying on the couch with a bored expression on her face as she watched TV. She was dressed in her pjs, her hair in a high bun, looking like a child. She looked up at him, without a word, she faced the TV again.

He stood by the door for a few minutes, lost in thoughts. What should he do? No doubt he enjoys her company. He likes her too. He can't possibly live without interacting with her and he doesn't want things to get any more awkward. If only he had not said that. May be he should act like it never happened.

"What are you standing there for?" She questioned in an irritated voice. Ever since he entered, she had been distracted. Though her eyes were glued to the TV, her senses were focused on him.

Contemplating if he should come forward with his feelings or brush things aside, he remained quiet. Not hearing his reply, she looked up at him. "Any problem?" Seeing the curiosity in her huge doe eyes, he forgot the question as he kept staring at her.

Her face became flushed so she looked away. "Why.. why are you looking at me like that?" She asked in a shaky voice, stuttering. She totally forgot she was mad at him. All her defences came crashing down, she forgot her earlier resolve to give him s.p.a.ce as her heart began thumping.

Her question brought him out of his thoughts, he suddenly shook his head, pushing all his thoughts out of his head. He raised his hand in greeting, giving her a fawning smile. He moved hurriedly to the couch, raised her legs and sat down, placing her legs on his thighs.

"What are you watching?" He decided to act like nothing happened earlier. Noticing his act, she decided to play along and not bring up the matter anymore.

"You know that already. Eaten?" She asked in a sweet voice.

"No."

She was about getting up when he held her legs. "Don't bother, I'm not hungry."

"Have you heard? The company is in talks for acquisition. The Stans from the capital are hoping to expand their company, the CEO will be here today." Jerry, Carl's colleague began in a worried tone.

He was a family man in his 30's. As the head of a family of four, he was worried about the change the acquisition will cause. His wife partner was a housewife, so the responsibility was on his shoulders.

"You do a good job, you don't have to worry about the acquisition." Carl stated calmly.

"There'll be a huge change. We might all loose our jobs." Jerry couldn't help but worry.

"There are talented persons here too, they can't possibly do away with everyone. If they would really fire people, it'll be a few discardable roles or lazy and negligent persons within the company.. you have nothing to worry about."

His explanation was able to put Jerry at ease. Not that he wasn't aware of this, he was just anxious.

After noon, there was an announcement for every employee to gather at the meeting room. They we're informed about the successful acquisition. The new CEO introduced himself and asked everyone to remain calm as he was not firing anyone if they keep doing a good job. Jerry who had been tensed was able to relax. Soon, the directors and managers introduced themselves to the new head, Chamberlain Stan, the heir to the elusive Stan group.

The Stans are a political family. The companies they manage are elusive because after acquisition, they suddenly disappear. And acquisition was usually done before elections. There were rumours about the Stan group and their purpose. Although their base was in the capital, with the upcoming election, a few persons within the company who are privileged to know about the Stan group could not relax.

No one could say for sure what the Stans plan on doing with a local firm such as this. It was nothing high-end, so there were people suspicious of their purpose.

What could a political family possibly do with a local firm in City A. When Carl heard this whisperings, he became curious. Why would the formerly acquired companies vanish from the stock market with no news whatsoever.

He thought for a while and conclude that maybe the companies where used to fund the political campaigns or may be as a front to know how things worked in their area of target. He started considering leaving the company and looking for a job else where. However, he decided to stay and see how things would turn out.
