Sarah was preparing for bed, when she heard pounding on her door. Being a werewolf meant such pounding did not scare her. She could hear and smell who was so enthusiastically trying to get in. Smiling she opened the door in her long cotton nightgown. She felt if she was in her own home she would dress for comfort. This is what her Mom dressed her in before bed growing up.
Abby and Jessie looked at her and were a bit stunned. Her hair that that she kept tidy and professionally in a bun was instead a long braid. Her nightgown was sleeveless and showed off very white shoulders. And most importantly the careful make-up was removed. She looked like a teenager. When Sarah had visited their place at guild hall she never appeared as less than an executive secretary. "Hey! Just how old are you?"
Sarah smiled and stepped back allowing her guests in. "What brings you two here at this time of night?" Brought back to their purpose Jessie waved a bottle of Chianti, "We want information, Lady! And we are prepared to pay for it!" Laughing at their expressions that went from determined to down right hopeful, "What do you want to know?"
"Cally came back home tonight while we were watching a vampire movie." Abby interjected,"And stole our popcorn!" Jessie shoved her with an elbow as they entered the living room and sat on the sofas. "She said the first vampire she ever met was a priestess of ummm. Abby priestess of what?" Abby closed her eyes and said, "Cally said, 'The first vampire I ever met was in Egypt. She was some kind of priestess of Sackett. I don't know the first vampire or where the first one appeared. Vampires have appeared in different places at different times.' That's what she said, right Jessie?" Jessie, "Umm, Sackett, that sounds like it but I'm not sure. Anyway she then went on to say there were other supernatural beings that are vampire like. Like FAIRIES! She was laughing at us the whole time and then she said she was tired and ran away. Just leaving us like that!" Abby said in a pouting voice, "And stole the popcorn she had me make."
Sarah returned with a corkscrew and wine gla.s.ses. "Priestess of Sackett. Hmm maybe what she was saying was Priestess of Sakhet?" Setting the gla.s.ses down, she looked at Jessie, "OMG! Sekhmet!" Sarah hurried over to her computer and started a search. "Sekhmet also known as Sakhet. Google says her nicknames were 'Before Whom Evil Trembles', 'Mistress of Dread', 'Lady of Slaughter' and 'She Who Mauls'." Laughing Sarah looked up, "It almost sounds like The Wotan."
Whining Abby moved to stand behind Sarah, "Fairies, Sarah, Cally said fairies. We don't care about some Egyptian mauling G.o.ddess. Fairies....." Looking up Sarah reached up and patted Abby's face like a Mother calming a silly child. "Sweetie think about what you just said." "Fairies?" Abby asked. "No, Egyptian mauling G.o.ddess. The Wotan was in Egypt and met a Priestess of Sekhmet who was a vampire. OMG When did she meet this Priestess? What else did Cally say before running away with popcorn?"
Jessie brought over the wine gla.s.ses and handed them out. She was smirking. Sarah would help them with everything they wanted to know. She would do the research with the fervor of an addict. "She said some ghouls, witches, demons, fairies, even ghosts are blood suckers like vampires. She said if it needs to suck blood then it could be considered a vampire."
"Demons? I, ah, ghouls?" Sarah took her gla.s.s of wine and drained it. Looking at the anxious Abby and smirking Jessie, "I don't know anything about demons. Ghouls are supposed to be nasty things that live in cemeteries, I think." Taking Abby's gla.s.s of wine she took a large gulp, "Cally said they are real?"
