He reached for his cell, thought a moment and called archives. If anyone wanted to know anything about the clans, packs, and the history of werewolves; they should start their quest for knowledge with Sarah in archives. She had the information at her fingertips. But he would dare say she had the information in her head. The phone rang at the other end for some minutes, Sarah had an old fashioned rotary dial phone in archives with no answering machine. She had just recently allowed in computers but didn't have the internet! To request information you must write letters or get her to answer the b.l.o.o.d.y phone!
Finally, she answered, "This is Sarah." "Sarah, this is Marcus Knight. Can you you send me whatever pertinent information you have on the Wotan clan and it's previous chiefs?" A few seconds of silence followed, "Nope." What a day he was having. He looked at his phone to check, yes he had called Sarah/Archives. "May I ask why?"
Sarah was from a long line of librarians who had served werewolf society and more recently in the Clan Home archives. How best to answer? "Marcus, you know the the bunker? The storage s.p.a.ce where you have to ask months in advance to walk into?" He did. When he became the head over security, Olen had told him the most critical storage facility that could not be breached even if it meant destroying it, was the bunker. "Yes."
"Marcus, everything in the bunker is about the Wotan clan and it's Alpha." Sarah sighed, "You must have met the new Alpha and are at a loss? I'll come over and try to answer your questions." She hung up before Marcus could respond. Sarah stood still a moment; she could not have been more excited in her heart than if she had won the lottery. She had won the lottery! She was going to meet the new Wotan! She contemplated, her Mom had told her the past 3 Alphas from the past 700 years had a sweet tooth. If she came bearing cookies she could probably have a sit down chat with the new Alpha. She and Olen had talked many times so she was expecting Cally.
Sarah walked into guild hall in a pretty floral dress with low heels. She appeared as a young pleasant looking woman with short brown hair. She headed straight to Marcus' office and knocked briefly. An immediate 'Come in' and she casually walked in. Marcus stood as the archivist entered. He gestured to a chair and resumed his seat. "Thank you for coming over." "Don't mention it. What can I tell you?" Marcus thought it over and said, "The entire bunker is about the Wotan Clan?" A nod. "I suppose telling me everything is not realistic." Head shaking in the negative. "Okay, what do you think I need to know?"
"We, Olen and I, prepared you a packet. This explains the special laws, privileges of the Wotan clan. It covers the general temperament of past Alphas as we decided that this was the best way to predict possible characteristics of the current Alpha. It also gives an overview of past abilities of the Wotan. Olen and I listed known abilities that were evident in 2 or more Alphas."
'Olen", sighed Marcus. He had been thinking Olen, his closest friend since coming to Clan Home had decided to let him be tossed by the wind without even a sail. "Good good." Sarah placed the folder down on his desk. "Thank you. I am sure this will be very helpful." Marcus put his hands together under his chin in contemplation. "So you're saying Cally is unique in regards to clan laws and has some type of special abilities?"
"Marcus, who owns the property of Clan Home and surrounding acreage?" A very surprised look appeared on his face. "As far as I know Olen managed it for the Clan Home a.s.sociation." Sarah smiled and again shook her head negatively, "Olen managed it for Wotan International." "At the turn of the 18th century Marta was traveling along the coast she found a small Native American hunter-gatherer tribe here. I believe there were just 25 members or so. They were dying out and would be gone as soon as the American government took over the state. Marta made a deal, in exchange for the land here, she made them werewolves. It was the only time in the Wotan clan history that we know of; that she changed anyone. Let alone an entire people. She then first registered the property deed with the Spanish government and then with each succeeding government. The Wotan is old, so old only she knows how old, if she even knows. She has bought and maintained properties world wide for centuries." Sarah stood and smiled, "Read the packet. You will find that Clan Home a.s.sociation is a subsidiary of Wotan International."
"Now, I am very excited to meet Cally, the cafeteria has made me several dozen cookies for her. If you have any further questions call me later this evening at my home." And with that and a swish of skirts she was gone. Marcus leaned back in his executive chair, he smiled and thought 'that little girl is everyone's boss?'
