After being reprimanded by Xia Wan, those individuals lost their temper and promptly found a cloth sheet to transport Old Zhao.
Witnessing that he was stable, Xia Hai’s family made preparations to leave. However, the doctor seized Xia Wan, preventing her from departing.
“No, you can’t leave! Although this person seems fine now, what if something happens later? You must accompany me inside!” the doctor insisted.
Xia Wan had initially intended to enter and investigate Li Jin’s condition. After the doctor’s outburst, she exchanged farewells with Xia Hai and Yan Han, following the physician into the hospital.
Xia Hai and his companions couldn’t permit her to venture alone into such a precarious situation. What if a real issue arose?
Thus, they all entered the hospital together without further debate.
Xia Wan was led to the room where Old Zhao had been placed temporarily, its wooden window half shattered. Inside, there was merely a wooden bed, one of its legs propped up precariously with a wooden stick.
Old Zhao lay on the bed, his face still pallid.
The doctor approached to a.s.sess Old Zhao’s condition, noting that he appeared to be sleeping, with his breathing no longer as labored.
“Your good fortune won’t last long. If anything happens to Old Zhao, I’ll head straight to the police station to report you!” The doctor admonished Xia Wan, still skeptical of her capabilities.
Xia Wan couldn’t be bothered to explain herself and simply said, “He’s stable for now. Can I go check on my grandmother first?”
“Who’s your grandmother?” The doctor’s foul mood persisted.
“Li Jin, who was recently admitted here,” Xia Wan replied. Xia Hai added, “Yes, the elderly lady in the innermost ward.”
“That elderly woman!” Mentioning Li Jin, the doctor seemed even more infuriated.
“Ever since she arrived, she’s been causing a ruckus every day, even when sedated, she won’t keep quiet.”
Upon learning that Li Jin had been sedated, Xia Wan frowned. “Who brought her here? What’s her ailment?”
“How would I know her ailment?” The doctor was still irate. “She was sent here for a reason.”
“Those admitted here are all lunatics!”
“Why should we be concerned about their lives?”
Xia Hai was the first to lose his temper. “I inspected her thoroughly. Why is she now deemed insane?!”
Upon seeing Li Jin’s appearance today, he couldn’t discern any abnormalities beyond momentary bewilderment. His intention had been to return home and discuss with his children how to secure Li Jin’s release. He hadn’t antic.i.p.ated these statements.
Naturally, Xia Wan couldn’t believe it either. With Li Jin’s noisy personality, she doubted that he had gone insane for no reason.
“Take us there,” Xia Wan demanded, leading the way as she departed the room.
The doctor didn’t attempt to halt her and merely trailed behind Xia Wan, continuing his tirade about how challenging it was to tend to Li Jin.
The group arrived at the designated room and suddenly heard a scream emanating from within.
Subsequently, a girl with braided hair, her visage drenched in blood, bolted out of the room, appearing quite frightening.
“Then what?” The doctor hollered and managed to intercept the screaming girl.
“She… She…” The girl panted and sobbed, revealing that she had been through distress. However, it was unclear what had transpired within the room. The hospital staff hesitated to enter recklessly as they were dealing with a deranged patient.
After all, the person inside was more unhinged than those at the hospital!
Observing the staff’s hesitation, Xia Wan pushed the door open and entered.
Xia Hai, concerned about Xia Wan’s safety, hastened to her side. She gazed up at his towering frame and smiled.
“Please wait outside,” Xia Wan instructed the others, apprehensive that too many people entering might agitate Li Jin.
Xia Wan stepped into the ward and encountered Li Jin, his feet and one hand bound to the bed. A cloth belt was fastened around the wrist of his other hand, which the girl with braided hair seemed to have injured when securing Li Jin’s hands.
Li Jin shut his eyes and writhed on the bed. ‘Xia Ru, you vile girl! Just wait, I’ll peel your skin off!”
As antic.i.p.ated, the situation was tied to Xia Ru!
“Xia Hai! You heartless wretch! I raised you for nothing!” Li Jin railed while brandishing a metal plate in his free hand.
Xia Hai was on the verge of consoling Li Jin when Xia Wan halted him.
Xia Wan extended a hand to retrieve the unused sedative on the table, and, pushing Li Jin’s restrained arm, she administered the drug.
Li Jin sensed something amiss. He waved his hand and brought down the metal plate on Xia Wan’s face..
