As we turn 14, our days turned busier. We are now third years, the middle point until we graduate. The 6 years where n.o.ble sons and daughters spend their time in San Crisante Academy, is built in the city metropolis. The beautiful shrine like building which is also a slight distance to the castle. The other buildings are built surrounding these 2 structures.
My life which revolves around coming and going between the Academy and the dorms too gradually started to change, as invitations to parties in the castle started to come towards me. Of course, during the times I attend these parties, Schneider would be together with me. I then go around the dazzling venue with him for greetings.
We naturally become known as the 'Elite Couple ever since San Crisante's founding' as we continue to maintain first in grades. Nevertheless, my family still did not recognize my achievements. My family frequently attended the parties as well, and was always expressionless when others complimented me, they thought of it to be a matter of course, and my brother would blurt out phrases such as 'getting first among the ladies would be easy'. Amidst those times, I would force a smile and Schneider would then say to me 'Be proud, Rhonya. You have achieved amazingly' and I would always return it with a gentle smile towards him who always kindly encourage me.
I am content with just Schneider's understanding, and that is all I needed.
The plans about our marriage started to get into order after we turn 15. Schneider strongly wished for our immediate marriage soon after our graduation. By then, we are treated as a couple in the Academy. But after Schneider insisted that we are engaged, they too started to treat us as so.
And so came the day Schneider first met the novel's heroine. As I started to think that there may be hope that the future won't be the same as the scenario, they both still met.
The daughter of the Baron, Minosa Aroga.
A beautiful lady with black hair and eyes who dislikes being surrounded, the type of student who likes to be alone. The sociable Schneider aggressively started to talk to Minosjou, and they quickly became rapport. Minosjou who is usually expressionless would turn into a gentle expression when talking to Schneider, as the flow of the novel, Minosjou fell in love with him.
Speaking frankly, Schneider is popular.
The son of the younger brother of the king who is talented and not arrogant. He has the trust of people around him and is liked by everyone. On the contrary, I only have a few of whom I can call as friends, but I was not especially disliked by others.
Amidst the days of continuous studies, I would act loosely between times and Schneider would turn dumbfounded as usual but always vainly take care of me. At times when I fall asleep, he would then carry me. Schneider who was always kind and understanding of me. But then he gradually changed.
Following the scenario came the year where our engagement would be annulled and I, expelled from the Academy. But it will definitely be fine. As I started to think of so and my insecurities grew.
Recently, I frequently saw Schneider and Minosjou together even outside of cla.s.ses and Schneider would stop their conversation when he saw a glimpse of me and approach me. Minosjou would then glare at me.
To begin with, she views me as a rival. She had always maintained second in grades among the ladies whilst not having an instructor, and worked hard by her own. In truth, she is talented and excels in magic. She may probably be more talented than I do. On the other hand, I had a demon instructor a.s.signed to me way before enrolling into the academy and thanks to it, had always maintained first in grades among the ladies.
To her, I am but an eyesore and to add that I am the fiancé of the person she likes. It would be expected that she hates me even more, but I lived my life and not minding her.
It will all be fine, Schneider's heart is with me.
On a certain day when I was carrying a few heavy books which was used as resources for the cla.s.s to the library and going down the stairs. The moment I started climbing down, a student suddenly came and b.u.mped towards me, incidentally the books I held fell. The blunt sound of books scattered in the ground, and one of which almost fell to the ground. As I fl.u.s.ter and chase after the book, I then picked it up from the before it reaches the bottom of the stairs… There, I found Minosjou standing. As I was focusing on the book, I did not realize she was there, and the book had almost hit her. Her face turned grim.
As I felt sorry and brought out my n.o.ble daughter smile "My apologies, that was not on purpose.".
As a daughter of a n.o.ble, my response was not wrong. But Minosjou was not satisfied with it and glared back at me.
Did my tone of voice annoyed her? Or maybe was Minosjou thinking that was my way of hara.s.sment to stop her and Schneider from getting close to each other. As I was thinking about to apologize again, she had turned the other way and went away.
On another day during the middle of magic cla.s.s, a certain student's magic went out of control.
"Rhonya!"
The cl.u.s.ter of magic with an unpleasant buzzing sound flew towards my direction. Schneider was swiftly moving towards my side but I had responded quicker and reflected the cl.u.s.ter of magic. As unfortunate as it was, the reflected magic headed towards the direction of Minosjou. It had barely missed Minosjou, and I was glared at again.
…T-that's not on purpose…
The student who was reckless was scolded and the cla.s.s continued on per usual, and lastly matches was conducted… And my opponent was Minosjou.
Since the match influences our grades, I went all out against her and won. Minosjou had a fierce glare towards me.
…B-but this can't be helped right…
Coincidentally, all these happenings went precisely the same as the novel's scenario. In short, even though I did not hold any ill will, it looked as if I was hara.s.sing Minosjou. Even if I did not do anything, everything felt like it was heading precisely towards the ending of the novel. My worries grew even more.
As the only daughter of the Gavizera family, 'Ruler of the Capital's Southeaster', various kinds of people would approach me. Additionally, I was engaged to the son of the younger brother of the king. With few people which I could call friends, but I had many cohorts of n.o.ble daughters. They would frequently invite me to tea parties, and shockingly, even a special s.p.a.ce for my personal use was prepared.
I was invited today as well by several of them and approached the tea party s.p.a.ce. The s.p.a.ce was built on the first floor of a s.p.a.ce which blocks wind and was like a salon. Nearby was a helix stairway which is connected to the second and third floor's hallway.
Truth to be told, I wanted to relax alone but thinking of the future, interacting with the n.o.ble daughters were more important. In the room filled with the gentle warmth of sunlight, I prepared the drinks and sweets. In the beginning, the n.o.ble daughters felt too honored to be served the tea I prepared, but eventually they became used to it. They loved teas which was popular, as I prepare so for them, I then prepared a cup of coffee for myself.
"Rhonysama, about Minosjou, isn't she acting too familiar with Schneider-sama recently?"
"Rhonysama, wouldn't it be wise to show her to know her own place?"
The conversation topic today is about Minosjou.
The n.o.ble daughters in beautiful dresses under the gentle sunlight, while enjoying a cup of tea elegantly is spurting dangerous thoughts with lovely smiles.
"Minosjou is definitely planning something to steal Schneider-sama away from you. Rhonysama, would you like to remind her of her standing?"
I returned a smile to them who suggested those ideas with a lovely smile.
"There is no need for such, I believe" As I answered, the n.o.ble daughters had an impressed expression.
"My, Rhonysama. You are as calm as always."
"Truly, what a wonderful person you are."
"Rather than that, the tea today is marvelous as well."
"Yes it is, the sweets as well."
And I felt relieved after the topic changed. But the next moment, black creatures came crawling down from midair.
"Gyaaaaaa!!" The n.o.ble daughter screamed out loud.
Looking closer, the black creatures were spiders the size of a fist.
"Nooooooooo!!" with a pale face, the n.o.ble daughters fl.u.s.tered.
On the other hand I was composed. Other than the creature with the initial G**, I am fine with everything else.
Rather, these spiders which a plump abdomen and big round eyes look adorable to me. As I look upwards toward the hallway of the second floor, I could see the figure of Minosjou with an expression as if she had won and went away. She was responsible for this.
The n.o.ble daughters then rushingly ran away, it seems they were really scared of spiders.
While I observe the spiders and drinking a cup of coffee, a refreshing voice can be heard from behind.
"Hi there Rhonyjou! Having tea alone today?"
As I look back, there was Henzel Riley with silky golden hair tied up to the back.
The riley house is a merchant with wide connections, and their accomplishment awarded them the seat of Baron. Henzel is the first son of the Rileys and studies on business management to help his father, as well as learning the ways of a n.o.ble in this Academy. His innocent personality enabled him to act friendlily with anyone. He is also allied with Schneider and understands him well, and one of the few friends I have. Henzel enjoyed the coffee I made and sometimes will come over for a cup.
There is another friend which I treasure as well… As soon as she became a fifth year student, she had to take a break from the Academy to help out with her parents who have work overseas.
While the answer to his question of me having a tea party by myself, I could only put up a vague smile. Henzel eyes was then directed to the table.
"…Spiders? Are you testing out a different kind of tea party?" Henzel, tilting his head with his blue eyes wide opened.
"Aren't they cute?" I gloss over with a smile.
The natural-head he is, he did not question further and just replied with a "Yes they are" and return a smile while sitting on the chair opposite of me.
I then brewed a cup of coffee for Henzel.
"Hmm.. Rhonyjou's coffee is definitely the best. How about making a business out of it?"
"It's not as good to be able to open up a business for."
"No no no, I will definitely pay to drink this." Henzel with a grin on his face. His likeable grin is not to flatter, but is truly to convey his true feelings. Hence why I was able to smile from my heart.
–It is true that I am interested to try a job such as one of brewing coffee like this.
That it's possible to just stop being a n.o.ble daughter and start a café instead.
Then I can relax and lay back more than I could now.
As I absentmindedly thought of so, I realized that Henzel was more silent than usual. Usually, he would start topic one after another and talk much more.
"…Henzel-sama?"
He was glaring at the half-filled tea cups and half-eaten sweets on the table which was served to the n.o.ble daughters' just a moment ago.
Henzel then directed a kind gaze towards me. "Rhonyjou, please call me Henzel without formalities…. Leaving that aside, are these spiders a kind of hara.s.sment?"
I instantly averted my gaze.
"Are you alright?" As Henzel sneaked a look at me with a worrisome expression but I replied him with a grin.
"…They are cute spiders indeed."
But Henzel's expression did not change. He then took a spider which climbed on my hand onto his own.
"True that they are cute spiders… But when something happens please rely on Schneider, will you?"
"….Thank you for worrying about me Henzel." I then expressed my grat.i.tude, Henzel finally returned back a smile.
That night, Schneider visited me when I had just finished my preparations to sleep.
"Rhonya… Is it true that you hara.s.sed Minosjou?" I was shocked towards his question.
Speaking of which, there was a scene as this in the novel as well. Where Minosjou herself confessed to Schneider about how Rhonya hara.s.sed her and so she counterattacked.
The shocked Schneider then approached Rhonya to ascertain her intentions and promised Minosjou to stop her.
"…Schneider… I believe you would know that I did not hara.s.s anyone?"
Schneider was not content with my answer and spoke up.
"It may be true that recently I had become close to Minosjou, but I was definitely not planning to cheat on you."
"…I understand that…but I did not hara.s.s Minosjou because I was jealous of her."
"But, you… Previously, you have ever made a servant give up his job.." I was shocked towards Schneider continuous denial. The servant he talked of was the young lad whom previously stopped working in the main house, but had then been employed to work for my grandfather. Even though I was not responsible for that incident…
"…He, he felt liable hence he gave up his work…"
"……" Schneider looked hesitant. He seems to be suspecting me. That I am someone who would treat others badly over small matters.
Even though we had long spent our times together, even though he looks at me more than anyone else… But he now hold suspicion in his heart towards me.
"…Please believe me, Schneider." As I embrace his cheek with both my hands and prayed for it.
"It's a misunderstanding from Minosjou's perspective, I did not hara.s.s her. I beg you please believe in me."
Then Schneider loosened the strength in his shoulders and smiled at me.
"I believe in you, Rhonya."
–But I knew. Even though you said you believe in me now, your heart will turn away from me.
I felt my first love's vividness started to fade. The hope in heart soon turned into despair.
Now alone in my room, I flipped over the sandgla.s.s presented to me by my grandfather. The green sands were shining like bright jewels. I stare upon the falling sands and dazed off.
In that instant, I thought of my figure working in a snugly café.
…Let me begin my preparations to accept my fate.
The happiness of my first love, it's time to let you go. When I was 9, I thought to this sandgla.s.s of how long 7 years was, but thinking back now it pa.s.sed in a blink of an eye.
Eventually all the beautiful sand fell completely down. I left the sandgla.s.s unflipped, closed the lights and shut my eyelids.
