Chapter Six

Police Alliance

"THE BEAST is Daeril." Biglang sabi ni Chaos. After we found the note, kaagad kong tinawag sina Daeril at Effie na nasa labas lang ng room ni Chaos.

"Why me?" Naguguluhang tanong ni Daeril. "What do you mean by beast anyway?"

"Stop the act. We know it's you." Chaos said with his eyebrows furrowed.

Pinanlakihan ko siya ng mata. "Chaos, Daeril is too young to be the beast. You said that this beast is connected to the one who killed your family. How is he the killer if he's just two years older than you?"

Chaos shrugged, "I don't know. Order someone around and him, being the mastermind of it all?"

Daeril sighed. "I know you think of me as evil because of what happened years ago between us but I didn't kill Friday's dorm mate and kidnapped Rea."

"Ano ba nangyari sa inyo years ago?" Nagtanong ako. I'm really curious. Ano kaya ang nangyari bakit ganun nalang nila kahate ang isa't isa.

Daeril and Chaos both grimaced. "Don't ask anymore, Friday." Daeril said

"It brings back old, disgusting memories." Ngumiwi si Chaos.

I breathed heavily and nodded. Kung ayaw nila ipaalala, bahala nalang. Baka naman may reason bakit ayaw nila sabihin.

"Naging kayo ba tapos naghiwalay kayo?" Tanong ni Effie na ngayon lang nagsalita.

"No!"

"No!"

Sigaw ng dalawa.

"Yuck." Daeril shivered.

Chaos just rolled his eyes and layed on the bed. Tinalikuran niya kaming lahat habang humiga.

"Friday," biglang seryosong sabi ni Daeril, "why did you really call us?"

Pinakita ko sakanila ang note. "Because of this. I saw it on Chaos's bed. The beast may have been here inside the room and snuck the note in."

"Precisely my point!" Biglang sigaw ni Chaos na napaigtad sa amin.

He continued "Daeril has been the only one guarding my room and coming inside from time to time!" Humarap ito kay Daeril, "who do you work for, huh?"

Daeril crossed his arms and looked at Chaos with furrowed eyebrows. "What am I, your maid? I can't bare to stay in this hospital with you so I asked a couple of nurses to come inside your room from time to time and police officers to guard your room."

He continued, "I hate you enough to actually think of killing you but I am not this what you so called beast. Who named him anyway? Cheap."

"It's not Daeril and the villain will never be him. k.u.malma ka." Sabi ko kay Chaos na galit na nakatingin kay Daeril.

"If not Daeril, it must've been one of the nurses or the police." Effie said.

"Let me see the note." Chaos ordered. Binigay ko sa kaniya ang note at kaagad niya iyon binasa.

"The beast said he's powerful. Between the nurses and the police, it is the police that is powerful. He can commit murder and get away with it since he is the police! A police chief, maybe!" Chaos deduced.

Daeril uttered, "I can't believe I'm saying this but y-you are..right." He said while wincing.

Chaos ignored Daeril. "But how are we going to investigate the police?" He asked

"We could go down the police station." Effie suggested.

"We can't just barged in there. We must have a reason to go there."

"Then we ask Matix to hack the police officers' files." Sambit ko.

k.u.munot ang noo ni Chaos. "No. We will never ask Matix for help again. Did you now that he asked me to pay him three hundred pesos for asking him to hack the files from the police? Three hundred pesos is my allowance for the whole month." He pouted.

"Nabayaran mo naman?" I asked.

"I told him that I'll pay him by installment. Thirty pesos every month."

I chuckled softly.

"I can help." Biglang sabi ni Effie.

"You can?" I asked.

Tumango si Effie. "I think you forgot that my dad is a police captain of Laguna Precinct."

"Okay then. We will go—"

"You can't. Magpahinga ka. Kakagaling mo lang sa aksidente. Baka matuluyan ka na niyan." Sabi ko.

Chaos pouted and we immediately went outside. If we need Chaos's help, I'm sure we can call him anyway.

"OH, ANAK, bakit ka nandito? Tungkol ba ito sa kaibigan mong naaksidente?" Tanong isang police na hinala ko ay ang ama ni Effie.

"Yes, dad. Alam niyo na ba kung ano ang plate number ng kotseng sumagasa sa friend ko?"

Umiling ang ama ni Effie. "Hindi eh. As of now, hinahanap pa rin namin. Iyon lang ba ang pinunta niyo?"

"Uhm..gusto po sana naming magstay dito saglit. Kung okay lang."

Agad na tumango ang ama ni Effie. "Oo naman! Iyon ay kung wala naman kayong gagawin sa school."

"Wala po kaming gagawin dun, kaya rito muna kami." Sagot ni Effie.

Tumango-tango ang ama niya. "Sige, rito muna kayo. Mas safe kayo rito dahil sa mga nangyayari sa school mo."

Tumango kaming lahat. Kung hahanapin namin ang files ng mga police officers, dapat nasa storage room kami. Malaki pa naman ang precinct na 'to.

"May case akong aasikasuhin at kailangan ko nang umalis. Huwag kayong malikot." Paalala ng ama ni Effie bago umalis.

"So, nasaan dito ang storage room?" Tanong ko.

"We could just ask the police officers." Daeril suggested.

"It would be too suspicious. Baka paghinalaan tayo at isumbong tayo," humarap ako kay Effie, "where is the storage room?"

"I'm not sure. I'll call Matix" ani Effie at kinuha ang phone saka may tinawagan.

"h.e.l.lo? Matix, can you send me the blueprint of Laguna Precinct? I'll pay you six hundred—"

Napatigil sa pagsasalita si Effie nang tumunog ang phone niya.

"What's that?"

"He already sent the blueprint of the precinct."

Nanlaki ang mga mata ko. "That fast?"

Effie nodded earnestly. "If you pay him more money, mas mabilis ang serbisyo niya."

We looked at the blueprint. It's near the information's desk. Mahuhuli pa rin kami nito kung papasok kami agad sa storage room lalo na't dalaw.a.n.g police ang nakabantay sa information's desk.

"We can't just go in the storage room. We need distraction." Daeril said.

"Do you need anything else? Sulitin niyo na ang six hundred pesos." Rinig naming sabi ni Matix sa phone.

Effie answered him, "can you create a distraction to the two police officers at the information desk? Alam mo na man ang siansabi ko, right?"

"Of course," narinig ko ang mabilis na pagtipa ng keyboard sa kabilang linya.

"And..done. Distraction caused."

As if on cue, the two police officers left the information desk looking panicked while shouting for help.

"What did you do?" Daeril asked.

"Oh, I gave them an anonymous note that one of their inmates escaped."

I smiled. "Thanks."

Pinatay na ni Effie ang linya at agad na pumasok ng storage room.

"So how do we know which officer is related to this beast?" I asked.

"He said he is powerful. He can't be that powerful if he's just a police officer. He may have a rank or something." Daeril said.

"Then we'll search for the police chief, the captain, the lieutenant, the inspector and more." Humarap ako kay Effie, "is it okay? We investigate about your dad?" Nagaalalang tanong ko.

Effie smiled which made my worry lessen. "Of course. He has nothing to hide. Why worry?" She answered which made me relieved.

Humarap ako kay Daeril. "Sino yung mga police officers na nagbantay sa labas ng kwarto ni Chaos?" I asked him.

"I don't know their names. The police chief offered me that he can ask two of the officers to guard Chaos's room." He answered.

Tumango-tango ako. We need to get the police chief's file. Humarap ako kay Daeril, "find the files of the two police who is guarding Chaos's room. You may recognize them by their faces."

Sunod akong humarap kay Effie. "You help me read the files of the higher police ranks. I'll read the police chief's file."

Nagkaniykaniya kami ng gawa. We were all silent and focused. Nang mahanap ko ang file ng police chief kaagad kong binasa yun.

Raynold Herrera

Age: 50

Graduated Criminology in National University. Became an Intern at NYPD for three years and a volunteer police at Manila Precinct for ten years then continued his career as a criminal justice police at Laguna Precinct for 15 years.

k.u.munot ang noo ko. The rooftop ma.s.sacre happened ten years ago. By that time, Raynold might be in Manila being a volunteer police. Malabong siya ang nagpapadala ng notes kay Chaos at sa amin ni Effie.

Nilingon ko sina Daeril at Effie. "Found anything yet?" Tanong ko sa kanila.

"None. I can't find their files." Naiinis na sambit ni Daeril.

"Their police descriptions doesn't fit what happened ten years ago." Effie said.

I sighed. That beast is probably two steps ahead of us.

Tumahimik ulit kami nang biglang nagtanong ni Daeril. "How many police officers are there in Laguna Precinct? Excluding the high ranking police."

Nag-isip si Effie at sumagot, "there are thirty police officers in Laguna Precinct. With the high ranking police, it is forty-five."

k.u.munot lalo ang noo ni Daeril. "But there are only twenty-nine police files here."

"What?" Biglang tanong ko.

"Kaninong files ang nawawala?"

Suddenly, the door flew open at agad kaming nagtago sa pinakasulok kung saan nahaharangan kami ng malalaking kahon.

We can't see the person who entered the room. Tanging paa niya lang ang nakikita namin. Mahigpit ang hawak sa amin ni Daeril na parang pinoprotektahan kami.

I covered my mouth with my flaws at maingat na humihinga.

The man took steps slowly and intimidating that made me shiver. Nakakatakot ang bawat hakbang nito. Patuloy lang ito sa paglalakad nang tumigil ito sa pinakadulo ng storage room.

Pinulot niya ang nahulog kong file kanina and there we saw a glimpse of his hair. Nakatingin lang kami sa kaniya, a.n.a.lyzing his every move until he looked at our direction. We suddenly moved and looked away kaya hindi namin nakita ang mukha ng lalake.

Nang tumingin ako muli sa lalake, he is standing up. I heard sheets of papers tearing and scribbles.

The man walked again, this time walked towards the door and closed it. Huminga ako nang malalim at lumabas sa pinagtataguan namin.

We immediately ran to see what the man did. Pero sa nakita namin, we were clueless. Random papers were teared to pieces and some has writings.

"What does this mean?" Tanong ko.

"The man won't come in here and suddenly tearing and writing random lines to these papers without a reason unless he's crazy." Sabi ni Effie.

"What if this is a puzzle?" Sabad ni Daeril.

We looked at him cluelessly. "What if we are supposed to connect the lines?"

k.u.muha si Effie ng isang maliit na box. "Ilagay natin ang mga papel na yan dito then we'll connect it together." Sabi niya. Agad namin kinuha ang mga papel na nakakalat. Without lines or with lines, kinuha namin.

Akmang lalabas na kami ng storage room nang pigilan kami ni Effie. "Wait, baka b.u.malik na ang dalaw.a.n.g police officers." Anito at tinawagan si Matix.

"Hey, para worth it ang six hundred, let me ask you this time, we need to get out of the storage room now. I need you to cause a distraction again."

Nakaloudspeaker iyon kaya rinig namin ang pinaguusapan nila. "Sorry, Effie. Only a fool can be fooled with the same tactic twice."

Effie sighed. "Create another one."

Matix chuckled softly. "I will add additional one hundred to this one."

k.u.munot ang noo ni Effie. "What? Why—"

Suddenly, biglang umingay sa labas. It sounded like an alarm that made the police outside the storage room panic.

"What did he do?" Tanong ni Daeril.

Tumawa si Matix sa kabilang linya. "I hacked their systems and caused a fire alarm. You have one minute left before the whole precinct shut down."

Agad kaming tumakbo palabas. We ran along with the police who were running as well. Agad kaming pumunta sa kotse ni Daeril na ginamit namin kanina para pumunta sa precinct.

Dala ang box na posibleng clue namin para mahanap ang lalakeng pumatay sa pamilya ni Chaos, dumaong na kami patungong hospital.
