Chapter 16
As the saying went, one depends on one's parents when at home, and on one's friends when away from home.
Going out, he had no money, and could only borrow money from his friends first.
Rong Yi flipped through his contact book once more. Amongst the good friends, there was a family member who'd just bought a house for marriage, a family who were known to be on the brink of bankruptcy, and a friend with a money addiction who didn't mind buying regular goods.
Holding onto a glimmer of hope, Rong Yi called his last contact and was excited when the other party recommended a fund. He said that although the rate of return was average, it was very safe and reliable, and he'd already invested all his spare cash into it. He recommended that Rong Yi not spend any more money and should seriously plan for the future.
After hopelessly hanging up his phone, he simply sent a message in his circle of friends and asked if anyone could afford to be temporarily relieved.
He specially blocked some people when he sent it. For example, his parents, Chen Keyao, some colleagues and the only recently met Zhou Li.
He blocked his parents because he didn't want them to worry about him. After graduation, Rong Yi didn't return to his hometown to work in the field. Therefore, he had long been used to reporting good news to keep them from worrying. Unless Rong Yi was at a dead end, he really didn't want to alarm the two old people.
As for Chen Keyao, he simply felt too embarra.s.sed. Asking the landlord to borrow money to pay the rent, what was this?
And for Zhou Li, although Rong Yi liked this Omega, he always worried that the other party still wished for something more than friendship. Zhou Li had said before that he was poor, and Rong Yi was afraid that he would force Zhou Li to tighten his waistband to help himself. [普通朋友,这感情债拿什么还呀。]
He hadn't sent out the post for five minutes when his mother called and asked him what happened. [之前不都好好的怎么突然就要借钱了。]
Rong Yi was dead.
At first, he thought that someone had leaked the secret, but while he was on the phone, he opened his circle of friends and looked at it again. Turns out he'd set up the post incorrectly as he'd chosen to block everyone but those specific people from the post, rather than the other way around.
Rong Yi panicked, quickly deleted, and then secretly prayed in his heart that no one else had seen it. It was extremely embarra.s.sing to be seen by his colleagues in such a miserable state.
On the phone, his mother was terrified.
The retired woman had a rich imaginative and asked if he had borrowed from a loan shark or had gotten caught in a pyramid scheme.
Rong Yi originally wanted to hide but seeing that his mother had even begun to worry that he'd been caught in a financial scam and was unemployed on the streets, he had to bluntly tell the truth.
After that, they inevitably had a big chat.
In order to prove that he not only had a place to live but was also living well, he turned on the camera and moved around the living room. Once he was done walking around, Chen Keyao's door suddenly opened.
“What are you doing?” Chen Keyao asked.
At the same time, a f.u.c.king voice could be heard from Rong Yi's phone. "Oh my G.o.d!"
Rong Yi suddenly felt very dumb.
“Who's this? How is he living with you? Why don't you uncover the camera and let mother take another look? What are you doing, kid?”
As Rong Yi slammed his phone to his chest and rushed back to the room, Chen Keyao's voice came from behind. "h.e.l.lo, Auntie!"
Although it wasn't necessary, after closing the door, Rong Yi specially lowered the volume.
“Mum, don't think about it; that's my landlord.” He looked at the phone. “Can't you be more mature?”
“Mum didn't think about it,” his mother laughed in the video. “But I know for my son to have such a landlord, he is definitely unable to control his thoughts.”
“…”
This must be the so-called ‘mother knows best.'¹
“I really don't have any thoughts about him.” Rong Yi's face turned red. “You, don't look at my landlord's appearance. His brain has a problem.”
His mother heard the words and frowned immediately.
“…not a violent problem,” he amended quickly, “don't worry about it.”
“Oh…” his mother nodded. “Then, if you can't hold it in, you cannot force others. And remember to take good measures, okay?”
“…”
“How much money do you lack? I'll let your dad call you tomorrow,” she said, “go and delete your post; aren't you ashamed?”
“…” Rong Yi removed his gaze and said, “already deleted.”
Rong Yi didn't expect that after leaving home, he would still need to rely on his parents.
Rong Yi's heart was full of warmth, but he was also glad that he'd finally escaped the call.
After hanging up the call, he secretly sighed for a while before his phone buzzed again. Rong Yi thought that it would be more nagging from his mother, but after opening his phone, he was shocked.
Chen Keyao sent him a WeChat transfer and the amount was not small.
He rushed to knock on Chen Keyao's door.
“Why are you suddenly giving me money?”
“Food expenses,” Chen Keyao's phone was still in his hand. “Isn't it a good idea to make a contribution to you? You're the one who paid the bill before, right?”
Rong Yi hesitated. “You gave me more than the rent… A direct deduction would have been okay, there was no need to give it to me.”
“…But,” Rong Yi was at a loss. “In fact, this much money isn't needed to buy food.”
"Really?" Chen Keyao was surprised. "I never buy food, so I don't know. I used to ask an auntie to come over and cook, but she wouldn't help me clean and her cooking wasn't nearly as good as yours.”
“…”
“Too much?” Chen Keyao asked, “then give it back.”
Rong Yi frowned and stared at his face for a moment before he finally went back to his room.
He actually wanted to ask Chen Keyao if he had seen the post he'd sent before. However, when the words had reached his mouth, he felt too embarra.s.sed and swallowed them back down.
After lying back down on his bed, he hesitated for a while before sending a message to Chen Keyao, who was under the same roof.
“What do you usually like to eat?”
The amount of money given by Chen Keyao saved him from his desperate situation. After all, in order not to worry his parents too much, his own deficient funds were not reported.
The next day at the company, a colleague who he was only familiar with on weekdays, pulled him from lunch to secretly ask if he needed help. After declining the other's kind intentions, Rong Yi felt warm inside.
His fortune really seemed to have rebounded after hitting the bottom. As the saying went, one is bound for good fortune after surviving a great disaster. The experience of facing the thief on that day now seemed very thrilling, and he had come out unscathed. He even successfully pa.s.sed the economic crisis that was originally thought to be the most difficult.
Rong Yi wasn't sure if it was due to the blessings of Zhou Li, but the bald boy of Party A's communication had greatly improved. The whole group work was going smoothly, and the task would be completed ahead of time. That could mean a vacation and a big bonus.
So smooth, it wouldn't be strange for him to meet a perfect Alpha from heaven and fall in love at first sight.
The perfect Alpha from heaven hadn't appeared, but there was a perfect Omega ready right now.
Zhou Li had complained to him that he suspected he'd encountered s.e.xual hara.s.sment in the workplace. One of his Alpha leaders always had something to do with him. He always loved to go to the office to communicate alone, and his ambiguous speeches would leave him feeling very uncomfortable. It was necessary to give a reminder, but the other party had not overstepped yet.
“Send me a picture!” Zhou Li said to him on the phone. “I'll set it on the desktop to deliberately let him see it. It should be able to make him a little self-conscious?”
Rong Yi thought for a moment. “Would it be better for me to pick you up from work this weekend?”
Chen Keyao had a cla.s.s that day so Rong Yi wouldn't have to cook.
Recently, Rong Yi was feeling a little bored and was looking for a friend to hang out with, so this was perfect for him.
Zhou Li was very excited. “Okay, okay, come on; I'll take you to dinner!”
Pretending to be an Omega's boyfriend, Rong Yi was so skilled that he felt distressed.
From small to large, he'd done similar things too many times. In addition to helping dissuade the unwelcome pursuers, he'd also helped the friends whose ordinary appearances were not favoured by the opposite s.e.x. His pair of arms had hugged many Omegas, and the taste was indescribable.
But for reasons that he himself couldn't tell, although he often felt distressed, as his friends had similar needs, he always volunteered.
Rong Yi carefully prepared before going into the battlefield. He arrived at the Zhou Li's company, only for a strange Omega to come to talk with him.
Just as he was about to refuse, Zhou Li came out of the building. With him, was a slightly fat Alpha. The Alpha's face immediately changed colour as he watched Zhou Li run up to Rong Yi like a flying bird and tightly push himself into his arms.
“Love~” Zhou Li's play was so overwhelming that Rong Yi was at a bit of a loss. “You didn't tell me you were going to pick me up; I'm so surprised, I'm so surprised, oh~!"
“…” Rong Yi wanted to laugh a little but forcibly resisted. “So it's a surprise.”
Then, Zhou Li turned to look at the Omega who'd come. “What do you think of my boyfriend?”
The other party immediately ran away.
Zhou Li looked up and snickered at Rong Yi, and turned and rushed to the Alpha who was standing at the gate. He waved his hand. “My boyfriend came to pick me up. You really don't need to bother, Manager Li! "
Rong Yi was very sophisticated and matched him with a smile.
Then two people had just begun to leave, when the frowning Manager Li suddenly shouted from behind, “Rong Yi?”You're Rong Yi, right?!"
Rong Yi stopped and stiffly looked back.
Zhou Li, who was next to him, also became tense.
“You know each other?” he asked quietly.
Rong Yi stared at the slightly rounded face of the other person, thinking hard. It seemed that there was indeed a bit of impression, but it was impossible for him to match the face.
Shouldn't be an acquaintance, right? Rong Yi hesitated to name the wrong person.
In the short interval of his entanglement, the man frowned and took a few steps to them.
“You don't remember me?” he asked, “I'm Li Xiaoran.”
Rong Yi blinked his eyes twice, followed by some bad memories as his brain revived itself.
“Really know, ah?” Zhou Li asked again.
Rong Yi didn't know.
Rong Yi felt ashamed to be a man.
This person, he had also once chased.
The author has something to say:
[我暂时解决了"怎么称呼那个生了自己的男性Omega/Beta又不显得出戏或者尴尬"的问题。] It is good to set both parents of the two protagonists as one man and one woman!
[T/N: today was a good day and I hope it'll be the same for you guys :))
