"It's cold out, how about you change later?" Mei'er sighed, the air was still chilly from the night and she didn't want to risk Xiao Jun catching a cold. "It's alright. We'll be quick about it."
She untied the front robe of her top and slipped it off along with the skirt, leaving herself in her undergarments as Mei'er just helped her put on the men's attire before tying her hair up and coiling it into a bun, setting it with a simple jade hairpin.
"It's time that I shed my princess image for a while and go back to being a prince." Xiao Jun smiled, she rested against the pillows behind her and closed her eyes to get some sleep.
Along the way, a carriage intercepted theirs and they stopped.
"Who's there?!" Yue Qi exclaimed, he got off his horse and walked towards the other carriage with his sword in hand.
Suddenly, a women in disheveled robes and a man followed, his robes just as equally disheveled, looking like they had run off without time to think.
"Long'er! My Long'er!" the woman yelled. Yun Long narrowed his eyes and leaned forward to look closer. He saw the glint of his mother's waist pendant and he quickly got off his horse, running over.
Madam Huo smiled and cried while she hugged him, "Long'er.. are you alright? How's your wife? Is she alright?"
Yun Long nodded and then gave his father a hug. "She's in-"
"Mother...Father.." Xiao Jun got out of the carriage with the help with Mei'er and walked over slowly, her face still pale.
Madam Huo quickly walked over and looked her all over, noticing that she looked pale. "Heavens! What has happened?"
"Mother..Xiao Jun gave birth early," Yun Long answered for the other, "but don't worry, our children are safe. She safely delivered a phoenix and dragon pair."
Eyes widening at what her son had said, Madam Huo turned to look at him, her husband, and then back at Xiao Jun.
"You..you really bore me not one, but two grandchildren?" she asked, in disbelief. It was rare for someone to give birth to multiple children.
Xiao Jun nodded and laughed a bit at Madam Huo's reaction, "Yes, I did."
"Let us get going. It's not safe to stay out here for long." Lord Huo, the old General Huo, said. He had teared up from hearing that he had two grandchildren.
In the Suo Kingdom, two days later, Zhang Wei and w.a.n.g Wei had arrived in the early morning. Getting off their horses, w.a.n.g Wei helped Yue carry one of the twins and together, took them into the palace.
Zhang Wei sent a eunuch for his parents and they stood in the palace hall. Holding the sleeping babies, w.a.n.g Wei let Yue sit down as he stood with Liying in his arms while Yue had Yifeng.
"What has happened so early in the morning?" a male voice exclaimed, startling the two babies awake, making them cry.
"Ai~! Father! Can you not be so loud?" w.a.n.g Wei sighed as he rocked back and forth with Liying and Yue patted Yifeng on the bottom softly to calm him.
Their father, the Suo Emperor, stared at them with wide eyes, unsure of why he was yelled at.
"These children...are they yours and Yue's?" their mother, the Suo Empress asked.
Zhang Wei chuckled quietly and w.a.n.g Wei looked at his mother with wide eyes. "No! Y-Yue and I do not have any children together...n-nor are we t-together..."
Yue blushed and focused on Yifeng.
"Mother, Father, these two babies here are Little Fourth and General Huo's children. Something has happened in Han." Zhang Wei said.
Their mother looked at them with wide eyes before she walked towards the two babies. Taking Liying from w.a.n.g Wei, she gazed at them and then she gasped, "They couldn't be more than just a few hours old... where is my Jun'er and Yun Long?"
"We're here, mother and father." a male voice announced, they all turned and saw Yun Long who was supporting Xiao Jun as they walked and behind them was Yun Long's parents and then Yue Qi with Mei'er.
Her mother teared up as she saw her daughter who was back to being a prince and she walked over with Liying. "Jun'er...."
Xiao Jun walked towards her mother and gave a light smile, "Mother, be prepared for whatever may happen in the future. The Han Kingdom has already killed their most treasured General."
Liying, hearing her mother's voice, started to cry loudly.
Xiao Jun took Liying from her mother and softly spoke to her, making the child stop crying instantly at her mother's comfort.
A year pa.s.sed and while the Crown Prince was not yet on the throne yet, he was beginning to make plans to overthrow his father.
The people in Han had all mourned the 'death' of their most treasured and loyal general and was unaware that he was very much still alive. In fact, they only heard that the Suo Kingdom had recently gained two new princes. No one knew what they looked like for when they went out, they usually wore a mask on their face and had two children with them. Some a.s.sumed that they wore masks because they were too handsome and was afraid to catch attention while others a.s.sumed that they were so ugly looking so they had to wear masks in order to not frighten anyone.
"Two princes you say? Adviser Liu, send an invitation to those two princes of Suo and invite them to my birthday banquet."
Adviser Liu nodded and quickly left to prepare the letter. With the letter was a slip of paper hidden inside that simply said:
One who uses violence and fear to rule shall not be son of the heavens.
