There were many reporters in front of mayor's office swarming like a tsunami when they saw Mayor O'Ryan coming out of his car heading to his office. Foreseeing the possibility of potential disturbance, a.s.sistant Rael had called up the polices to control the crowd as to protect the mayor on their way to the office.
Unexpectedly, there was a reporter successfully pa.s.sed through the polices and stopped William O'Ryan for an interview. To protect his image, he kindly answered the reporters' questions with patience however it couldn't shadow the gloom plastered all over his face.

"Sir! Sir!"
"Excuse me, Sir!"
"I'm Christine from Daily News. Can I ask you a couple of questions?"
"Yes, Ms Christine. I would love to answer your questions however my time is limited. You've got less than one minute for your questions."
"Okay, Sir Mayor. Did you send your son to overseas because you knew that he's about to divorce his wife and you wanted to suppress the issue on hand at that time?"
"Absolutely ridiculous. My son is a successful CEO. He went to the overseas was because to expand our family business there and that was solely at his decision."
"What do you say about your former daughter in law? Was the divorce mutually agreed by both of them?"
"Everyone in the family shares an equal standing. We'll never bow down to any form of abuse. Now, please excuse me."
"Sir! Sir!"
Signalling to a.s.sistant Rael to stop the reporter, William quickly went into the security checkpoint and safely evaded the crowd. His face clearly showed his distress over the unexpected leak of his son's divorce case. He thought he had kept it under the wraps from the public's attention however things bound to be exposed.
Once he reached his office, he sank his body into the sofa and stretched his neck with one hand at the back of his cramp neck. He didn't have a single rest over these days as he was so busy for the upcoming new term mayor election. The divorce news would only add up more tension to the position he held currently and he needed to do more extra works to gain the public's trust in him for the next mayor appointment.
"What's the current update on my son's whereabouts ?" Damian O'Ryan had gone missing from his watch a few days after the divorce paper was finalized. Because his son was smart enough to erase all of his tracks as soon as he exited the city, it was more difficult to trace Damian's location as unlike William's influence in West City, his power outside this land was restricted.
"I'm sorry, Sir. We fail to track his current location."
"How about that woman?"
"Last time we checked on her, she was at her parents' house."
"Monitor her closely. Find out if she's the one who leaks the divorce news to the media and keep looking for my son. By crook or by hook, you do whatever means to suppress the news. Now it's not the time for this issue to be the talk of the town."
William instructed his loyal a.s.sistant, a.s.sistant Rael to carry out all the dirty works for the sake of his clean image. a.s.sistant Rael had been working under him since he claimed the mayor position ages ago so every ins and outs of how he preferred the unnecessary dramas to be settled, a.s.sistant Rael knew the best of his style.
"Stupid son! How could he do this to his own father! Don't you know how hard I've been working to build up our family name and now you're about to crush all of my efforts into vain." William cursed his son as he felt the tension weighing on his shoulders. Being the mayor of West City was his childhood's dream but now, his heart ached for more victories and power. Unlike the surname he carried on him for the rest of his life, those conglomerates families had established their power long time ago before the O'Ryan name rose up the social ladder.
William's father was only an unknown small businessman at the South West (SW) Land before the land underwent restructuring. Even his mother's background was far from a middle-cla.s.s family. He had nothing since he was young however it was all thanks to his strong perseverance and intelligence that he got to where he was right now. Every day he burned the night oil and worked his a.s.s off to improve his social status.
He was roughly ten years old when his family moved to the main city due to the SW Land restructuring. Because of the high living cost in West City Central, William partook in part-time jobs at a very young age while he studied. His luck was getting better as he managed to receive a scholarship for tertiary education and got into one of the prestigious colleges in West City which was Winter Academy.
There he learnt about politics and ended up having an interest in the said field. He built up his connections and b.u.t.tered up his talks to all of sons and daughters of influential families. Although he had to endure humiliation and mocking by those sn.o.bbish because of his family background, he continuously worked through the hustle and finally one day, a former student of Winter Academy who was a close relative of the existing mayor at that time, scouted him when he saw the potential in William to be the next successor.
William got involved in the politics from there on and understood the tricks and strategies to build up his reputation and skills as a politician. To realise his childhood's dream, he opted for this path and subsequently changed the fate of his life by marrying into one of the conglomerate families - O'connor and benefitted from the wealth of Scorpion Group.
