Yan Huaijing asked in a languid and gentle voice, his lips slightly curled up. The faint smile on his face gave a perplexing air.
Wei Yuewu was quick to know His Highness intended to give her a choice. She turned her body sideways, folded her sleeves, and made a deep bow. Her eyes were directed downwards with a faint chill flashing across and answered, "Please allow Yuewu to go with you!"
In fact, she had no choice at all. There was not a single person that she could depend on. Now that her ident.i.ty had been revealed, she was just a sheep entering the tiger's den and would end up dying without a burial place if she went to the capital with Mo Huating who was heavily guarded.
"And why would I take you with me?" asked Yan Huaijing in a casual and indifferent tone. He directed his eyes at Wei Yuewu with a sense of seemingly gentleness that was dreadfully nonchalant and interrogating in nature.
Such a look only made her hair stand on end.
However, Wei Yuewu clearly knew that the only person to whom she could turn for help was the young man in front of her! Even if she knew he was not easy to deal with, she could not let go of the chance.
"Given my ident.i.ty as the only first daughter of Marquis Hua Yang, I may be useful for Your Highness in the future." answered Wei Yuewu as she straightened herself up, looking into that pair of beautiful eyes.
"You have been living with your grandparents all these years. As I know, your father doesn't care much about you." said Yan Huaijing with a light smile and raised eyebrows. It seemed that he was not surprised by her answer.
This man was really too hard to deal with!
"It's true that my father doesn't care for me, but that cannot deny the fact that I'm his only first daughter. Considering my father is garrisoned close to the territory of the Duke of Yan, isn't it of much interest for Your Highness to be friendly with my father?" Although Wei Yuewu was nervous inside, she appeared calm.
Yan Huaijing seemed not surprised at all when hearing Wei Yuewu mention the Duke of Yan and call him Your Highness. He raised his unfathomable and beautiful eyes and looked at Wei Yuewu with a faint smile. Then he leaned back and said leisurely, "Indeed, you are a smart person!"
Yan Huaijing, the prince of Yan State, though endowed with a beautiful appearance and elegant bearing, was the most ruthless and cold-hearted prince ever since Yan was elevated to the status of a va.s.sal state. People who did not know him would be easily fooled by his handsomeness to think that he was as gentle, affectionate, and charming as he appeared to be.
Wei Yuewu had heard Mo Huating address him as Your Highness. Judging by his aura and appearance, Wei Yuewu had immediately figured out that he was no one else but the price of Yan State.
"I dare not claim that compliment before Your Highness." said Wei Yuewu, lowering her eyes and letting out a light sigh.
"I can take you with me, but you need to give me a reason." Yan Huaijing flicked his fingers on the table, smiling faintly and casting a sidelong glance at Wei Yuewu.
His laughter was as buoyant and gentle as ever, as if he felt very interested about her advice. While feeling relieved, Wei Yuewu knitted her brows tightly. As she had expected, the prince would not take her along for no reason. He was interested to know that her father was Marquis Hua Yang only for a while, and that was not enough to get him really interested in helping her.
Now that he had fired a tricky question at her, she must produce a satisfying answer. Otherwise, he would definitely abandon her without mercy, or even surrender her to Mo Huating.
Wei Yuewu took a deep breath. She looked up in a determined manner: "If Your Highness can help me escape the pursuit of Marquis Jing Yuan, I will ask my father to present a grand reward to Your Highness when he comes to the capital next time."
At this moment, Wei Yuewu did not attempt to hide anything at all, admitting that Mo Huating was hunting for her.
She knew too well that the prince had already seen through her situation. A person like him would never want concealment.
"How can you prove your ident.i.ty when all the people around you are dead?" Seeing Wei Yuewu was so candid, the prince raised his eyebrows and looked at her in a playful and enigmatic manner.
Wei Yuewu knew what he was implying. If she couldn't even prove her ident.i.ty, how could she convince other people of the rewards she promised to offer?
"I understand that Your Highness has doubts, but please trust me. I can definitely prove my ident.i.ty. If Your Highness would be so good as to lend me a guard to accompany me to see Marquis Jing Yuan, my ident.i.ty will then be confirmed."
Wei Yuewu said genially, but her words were resolute and decisive.
In front of people like Yan Huaijing, if you hesitated, you may lose not only opportunities but also your life!
"OK, I can lend you a guard." Yan Huaijing nodded readily with his beautiful eyes widened. He seemed to be interested to see Wei Yuewu's calmness and stopped embarra.s.sing her.
Wei Yuewu's heart, however, sank further when she saw the smile on Yan Huaijing's face. She clearly understood that she must pa.s.s his test to find shelter with him.
Fortunately, besides Mo Huating, she also saw another person, a person who should not have appeared....
She didn't know Mo Huating, but coincidentally, she did know that person....
