When they were at a stalemate, the whining of the ambulance sounded as it approached to save Lu Mengmeng. Her eyes opened, shining with hope.

Zhao Bu and Ma Liuyun were wearing white gowns, holding a stretcher. All the students separated to give them a way in. After a few minutes, Danjinos was taken out to the ambulance.

Seeing the blue and red alarm light glowing brightly, Lu Mengmeng took a deep breath.

Danjinos had been staying in the special hospital of the Universal Creature a.s.sociation for three days. He still had a fever and slept on the bed, still in low spirits. These days, Zhao Bu and Ma Liu took turns coming to the hospital to take care of him. But he refused to communicate with them.

Finally, Ma Liuyun went to Lu Mengmeng for help.

“Why do you need me to take care of him?” Lu Mengmeng asked.

Danjinos was a man; as a girl, going to take care of a man was inconvenient.

“He refused to talk to us. We are not satisfied with his psychological situation.” Ma Liuyun frowned deeply, and it was apparent that he was worrying about Danjinos very much.

“Didn’t he always say that we human beings are weaker than him? Is he pretending weakness to get our sympathy?” Lu Mengmeng was curious; to her understanding, Danjinos should have been well enough already. Why was he still in the hospital?

Ma Liuyun’s face turned serious a minute later, and he said, “I should warn you, Lu Mengmeng, though he looked like us, he is another kind of creature. In order to stay with you daily, he has to use the molecular mimicry to reshape his tail into the form of human being’s legs on a molecular level. But this reshaping brings a huge burden on him and taxes his system.”

Lu Mengmeng looked more confused.

Ma Liuyun sighed, and said, “Have you read the fairy tale The Little Mermaid? In fact, Danjinos is in a similar situation. Each step he walked was like dancing on the blade. Anyway, he was a fish from the Amazon; however, he should live in the subtropical zone with you. What’s more, in order to save you, his tail got burned. All these issues together put his health into a weakened situation right now.”

Lu Mengmeng was so upset that she lowered her head.

She always regarded Danjinos as a burden to her, and sometimes she even complained why he come to this city. She never knew how difficult it was for him to live in a strange environment, and what kind of sacrifice it was for him to live with her in the shape of mankind.

Ma Liuyun shook his head, looking at Lu Mengmeng, who did not show any positive return to his words.

“Would you please take me to him?” Lu Mengmeng asked as she suddenly lifted up her head.

Ma Liuyun was stunned, but then he smiled.

In the special hospital of the Universal Creature a.s.sociation, Lu Mengmeng was busy with all the staffers to take care of Danjinos, including cutting up the fruit, feeding him rice congee, and other necessities to nurse him back to health. After some time, the silent fish opened his mouth to say, “I am sorry that I did not completely win the compet.i.tion.”

This statement surprised Lu Mengmeng. Was this his only concern for these days?

Mengmeng wanted to tell him that it was just a basketball game, but she was afraid that he would misunderstand her and continue to bother her about their relationship. Instead, she only comforted him with the congee and a polite: “Never mind. Take care of your body, and you can have another compet.i.tion.”
