Yet suddenly that sensation faded, the enchantment having run out as no longer was my movement supporting it(a mere second of movement to enchant, a whole other second for it to fade. Pretty good if you ask me), and I could see her slit pupil widen.
The way she pulled me had my facing up, looking her in the eyes as he body fell just above mine.
She looked so... panicked. So afraid.
The FoxFires slammed into her back, all 4 of them exploding to rip it apart, and blood flew up as a geyser. The other me had to blow the up so the explosion would rip apart her back because any closer and I would've been hurt too.
And the explosion threw her into me.
As I slammed onto my back, I could feel her on top of me, one of her arms still holding onto me, as if afraid.
I looked down into her panicked eyes... as small gasps for air came from her. I could see past her head, and her torso was practically hollowed out by the explosions. She had no lungs to hold the air.
Her hand grabbed at me so anxiously as she felt herself dying.
And then... she was gone. And sticking out of what was left of her back was my blade, where she'd impaled herself by the explosions force.
I could feel it absorbing the poison and dark type energies from her body but... I just couldn't.
I threw her body aside, blade still in it, and ran to the wall, puking over the edge.
I'd killed. Yes. And so far it hasn't affected me too much other than a few moral philosophy dilemmas. But that...
It was sickening to watch her die, desperation filling her eyes and soul as she clung to me. I could FEEL her soul crying out to live. Even if I know the Dungeon will revive her, that still... G.o.d. It was just so upfront and horrible a way to die.
"Hey... breathe."
A small hand on my back. A gentle voice filled with concern, as it always seems to be when it comes to me.
I took the breath, gasping some air back in, looking down at the bile on the rooftops below.
Luna lay against my back, arms wrapping around my chest, and muttered softly. "Hush, and breathe. Some things just happen as we do what we must do."
I shakily took another breath. "I know... it was just so much more personal seeming when in that last moment... I understood. I understood what she was going to do next, I knew everything about her emotional state and what actions she would take. And in that moment I used that to kill her, and I could feel it. The fear."
"You felt another's fear of death, and now you know what you inflict when you kill. Everything feels that fear as they die, even the animals you've had to hunt."
I turned, and saw Luna looking at me with compa.s.sion edged in seriousness.
I looked down to see Fenrir.
"The way this world, no any world, works is that to avoid that fear and fate for yourself, you often must inflict such pains on others. To live is to cause pain, for yourself and everyone around you." Fenrir said, in his weird way that only I seem to get.
I reached down, crouching, as I rubbed Fenrir's head. "Yeah... thanks buddy."
I looked up at Luna from my crouching position. "You too Luna."
I only got a smile, sad but sweet, in response.
I walked back over to the body, and drew out the blade, looking to see if any bits of soul or elemental energies remained.
It was already cleaned out it seemed, so I looked at the male's headless body. The soul energy was scattered already, but the elemental energies weren't.
I stabbed my blade into his corpse, letting it draw out the energies left within him.
'Hmm...'
I drew the blade back out, and flicked some of the blood off, then tried something.
I used Sacred Flame to clean off the excess blood, and tried to... feed it to the blade.
After a moment, the golden fire suddenly was sucked into the bronze part of the blade.
'd.a.m.n that worked?'
I looked at the weak traces of light and fire energy in the blade, now just a bit stronger.
'Huh... I wonder if...'
I began channeling more energy into it as just my mana, and it seemed to split into the four elements I had naturally, empowering them even without being filled with elemental energies from the surroundings.
A mild feeling of joy came from the darkness spirit that was somewhat there now.
'I wonder if I could get Luna to feed it and create water and wind spirit embryos?'
"Hey Luna... would you mind feeding some mana into this?"
I pointed at my sword, which I would probably have to re-explain as Luna was giving me a weird look; the last she'd seen, it didn't look like that. I hadn't had a chance to explain the spirit vessel thing.
After a short explanation, she agreed to try, and it worked in that the blade ate the energy, but little happened.
"Is it too little...?"
She shook her head. "I won't have a lot left of we keep going."
'Oh right. Most people don't regenerate mana as freaking fast as I do.'
I sent out a wisp of soul energy into the blade, and felt it... connect.
I could feel the juvenile darkness spirit, and beginnings of the others.
Then I... pushed some soul energy into them. I was feeding them, but soul energy that I had to spare rather than mana.
'I know soul energy should technically not run out, but that's when you use it, not give it up. I'm not going to permanently lose another soul stat are I?'
'Cool. Alrighty, let's give em some juice!' I have a lot of soul energy to spare, so I think it went pretty well. And now that extra soul energy was there, I could actually feel the two new elements coiling around two nexus's of my soul energy, forming two weaker, but still there embryos. I looked through a.n.a.lyze, but the wind and water elements are too weak to do anything quite yet. No new abilities for my sword for now. Now, the interesting development: the darkness spirit was getting a bit rowdy as my soul cane into contact with it. Eventually, as I drew my soul out, it followed. I stared as the blackened steel released a black mist which coagulated into a sphere of pitch black, like a black hole... except right in its center we're two dots of white. '...those are eyes. It looks like Kirby with no mouth or limbs, but black with white circle eyes.' The spirit of darkness slowly floated around me, feelings of joy and interest coming off of it. 'Ah! Right!' I reached my soul out to it, and tried to communicate... I dunno. Friendship? It seemed more confused than anything else. 'Come on, what's a simple instinctual message that can be given to promote family...?' '...we could try sharing memories?' 'Good idea Kyoku!' 'You're welcome Kyoku.' Hmm... eventually I'll be able to get more me's in here as that skill levels up. I just decided to go with the obvious. I shared memories of the Dungeon, of defending alongside my Tengu and Fenrir, of finding Luna and rescuing her. 'My old family might be gone to me... but I've got one here.' The feelings of intrigue, confusion, and joy seemed to come together as a feeling of gentle warmth in the Dark Spirit. I nodded at this little ball of darkness. Honestly it was like 5 cm in diameter, and had bits of black mist slowly drifting off of it. It seemed... cute? "Alright. Your name is Shade." *** Spirit Magic I [Proficiency 0%] Dark Spirit Magic I [Proficiency 43%] Tier-0 *** 'So in my cla.s.s skills, I have spirit magic. Well that's good to know. This feels kinda nice, now I don't got to track and improve each spell individually. Also if I get a Light spirit, they'll grow in Proficiency to match! Yes!
