Hacking Eden 12 The Job

Just as I was planning to leave everyone behind I heard a knock at my door, I got up and let in Baby and Fried, Fried was wearing a different change of clothes, I could only imagine that he sweat thru the last unfortunate outfit.

"how did the tests go?" I asked as I smilingly looked at Fried

"if I didnt know any better I could of sworn they were trying to kill me!!"

"Oh relax man it wasnt that bad, only some stretches and a light jog." Baby retorted

"that's easy for you to say, you look like you should be running marathons, not messing with computers."

"what can I say I like to stay fit, so I dont turn out....well like you."

"Hey! words hurt you know, and I'm not fat I'm just big boned."

"Ok, I'm sorry that was a low blow I admit," looking to change the subject baby turns to me and asks

" So boss are you ready to get some grub?"

"We have to wait for Soft first she should be here in a little while, she was just arriving as you guys were doing your tests."

"Not her come on red I'm gonna waste away here."

"I highly doubt that is gonna happen even if you had to wait a month fried."

"what did I just say about words hurting!! man it's like you two are in cahoots with soft to bully me."

" speaking of you had better delete that pic you took or she will definately kill you."

baby looked at us confused and asked

"What pic?"

"fried here took a screen shot of soft when we were selecting our cla.s.s and race for the game, so she is basically in her underwear."

round eyes Baby turns to fried and says.

"man you have some guts, both literally and figuratively, she is definately going to kill you if she finds out"

"if you two can shut up she wont find out! and besides it's only for security sake. this way if she trys to get into my system again, I'll unleash my secret weapon!"

"that's a horrible idea, but what ever man it's your funeral I tried to save your skin"

as we stood around chatting for some time we finally heard another knock at the door, it was opened to reveal Soft, who was sporting a pair of Jean's and a black t-shirt with a picture of a white rabbit wearing headphones rocking out to some kind of music she also had electric Blue hair.

"Wow I like the hair soft."

playing with a strand of it she says "Thanks, I like to change it every so often and I'm thinking it may be time for a change I've been blue for a while now, but blue is my favorite color so it's been hard to change it."

"blah blah blah yea you have blue hair can we please go eat we've been waiting for ages" Fried impatiently said

shooting Fried a venomous glare she said " it's not like you'll die if you skip a meal, especially you of all people."

trying to again stop these two before world war 4 happens (world war 3 being when she hacked frieds systen) I say "I'm pretty hungry too actually, maybe we should chat in the cafateria."

"fine lets go then"

we walk down the hallway and made our way to the cafeteria, after we all got our food and sat down to eat Vera made her way over and began to tell us what exactly they expected of us.

"so as you all know we took your base line physical and mental health scores and over the next few months, we will take new scores at the rate of once a week, to see if there is any increase or decrease. you will also be given certain tasks to perform in the game. things such as staying logged in for extended periods of time, or testing out new items or story lines that. also, as I've told Mr.Bridges here, if you happen to find a bug or glitch in the game you will be rewarded a sum of 10,000 dollars, and if you can come up with any new ideas to add to or alter about the game you will be rewarded if it is approved by the board. now are there any questions or comments about your duties here?"

"I have one" i raised my hand slightly "while i was playing last night i think i came across a bug, I accepted 2 different quests one to steal wood from the village chief that was given by the blacksmiths apprentice Lensa and one to collect wood for the village chief. and as I collected the wood from the forest, it also counted it as stealing the wood for Lensa's quest."

taking out her PDA she took a note of the quests and village and said "I'll have someone from the development team check it out and if its found to be an error we will let you know."

after thinking for a moment fried raised his hand and said

"I have a question, there are NPC's in the game with jobs like reds wood worker and there is a jeweler in my town. how ever those are jobs that players cant get. is there a way that players can unlock them or get them in some way?"

"yea there is a tailor in my town too and that wasnt a starting job."

Vera took out her PDA and took a note of the suggestion "ok I'll bring it up to the Board and let you know what the decision is."

after a few moments we were all silent and then Vera said "if there are no more suggestions or comments, then I'll give you all your first a.s.signment for testing."

we looked at each other and then shrugged "ok what's the a.s.signment?"

"first we would like to see what prolonged playing will do to the human body, so we would like for you to play for at least 7 hours a day for the next week, then we will test your scores again and see if they improve or decline."

"oh 7 hours? that's not too long iplayed for 6 hours straight last night, it put me at level 4 almost out of the tutorial phase."

"yea I played for about 6 hours too I'm almost level 4 a few more moles and I should level up."

"ok then you have your a.s.signment, so please complete them each day before midnight and log your hours and progress thru Eden."

Vera then put the stylus back into her PDA and left the cafeteria, leaving the four of us alone to finish eating and after a quick glance at the time we had about 8 hours till midnight so we scrambled back to our rooms and drove back into the Garden.
