"Again, ew. They'll attempt to negotiate with Nate and Jeff's future matings."
"This situation is not up for a negotiation or a vote."
"Well then, you need to remember that once you abolish the law, Andy won't be the only human we love in danger."
My stomach dropped with the realization, "Sunshine."
"Yes, Sydney."
"f.u.c.k, I should have called her."
"You still get too. And as a mating present, you get to call Walter as well."
Grinning, "Really? How'd you pull that off? And why'd you pull that off?"
"How, threatened death to anyone who said anything to either of them. Why, because your twin has had his head up his a.s.s for so long, I didn't want to give him any extra time to f.u.c.k it up. Surprising him with this is best. And, I know nothing gives you more pleasure than saying, I told you so."
"I did say so."
"I know." She threw her hands up in the air and shook them about, "Happy mating! Hope you like your present, it's the only one you're getting from us. Yea!"
"This is going to help you too."
Ja'lyn stopped smiling and put her hands down. "Let's just get through the weekend before we tackle a hopeless situation."
"It's not hopeless. Everything will change because I'm the f.u.c.king alpha."
"You say that too much."
"I know, but I can't seem to stop. Wait, if Sunshine and Nate don't know yet, how will everything be ready? Every shifter around the world is going to want to witness the moment everything changes."
"I know. Don't worry, everything's covered. Second call after Jeff was to Sydney's favorite intern. He a.s.sured me that regardless of when the boss was informed, he'd have everything ready to go. He also mentioned how Walt was, So, screwed' as he was hanging up. I like that kid."
"Yeah, Cody's a good one. Today is Sunshine's birthday, she'll be on the way in to try to quit again."
Ja'lyn stood, "Then you better get to it. I already let Andy's mom and grandma know about the wedding taking place tomorrow. They said they'd meet you at the lodge at noon with dresses and. . .a bunch of other c.r.a.p you don't care about. Don't be late."
"An alpha is never late, everyone else is simply early."
"Did you just misquote the Princess Diaries?"
"Shut up and get out, I've got a phone call to make."
"Yes, queen-I mean, alpha." She curtsied then belly laughed all the way out the door.
"Who's Sunshine?"
I was glad Ja'lyn had left because I jumped and screamed a little. I turned in my seat. Andy was leaning against the door jam wearing only my flannel shirt. d.a.m.n. "You're so hot." She chuckled and sauntered over. I took her hand and led her to sit on my leg wrapping my arms around her. "Sunshine is Ms. Sydney Gray, the production coordinator of Lupinski Studios, my twin Nate's executive a.s.sistant, a dear friend and like a little sister to me. She was the first human to fight my alpha power, like you, your mom, and grandma can. She never holds back, always speaks the truth, tells it like it is, a complete smarta.s.s, and as she likes to tell me, my sarcastic ray of f.u.c.king sunshine."
She laughed, "Is that why you call her Sunshine?"
"I think she started saying that because of my nickname."
"You sound like you admire her."
"I do, you will too. There's one more thing, though."
"What's that?"
"She's Nate's mate."
Andy leaned back and looked at me, "But, she's human."
"You're human."
"You know what I mean. I'm a.s.suming they're not together because of the Good of the Clan bull c.r.a.p. One night being around you, trying to resist what I was feeling, was hard. How long has she worked there?"
"Three years today."
"Holy f.u.c.king s.h.i.t. I couldn't have done that, I would've gone crazy. Why do you look so worried? You're abolishing the law that has kept them apart. They can be together now."
"She doesn't know about the law, shifters, or mates. She's been dealing with this blindly."
"Yep, definitely would have gone crazy."
"Nate didn't make it any easier on her. In a lot of ways, he made it harder. He never had faith this day would come. He never thought he'd have to apologize."
"Why didn't she leave?"
"He did whatever it took to get her to stay. Because of that, she's an incredibly wealthy twenty-something, with more experience in the film industry than people who have been in the business a decade longer than her. She's highly respected and if she quits, can literally do whatever she wants, and the last time I talked to her what she wants is to be as far away from my brother as possible."
Andy looked sad, "Is there any chance for them?"
"There's always a chance."
"Good, then we've got work to do."
"What we?"
"What can I say, I love a happy ending."
Grinning slyly, "You know, I love a happy ending too."
Andy's eyes sparkled as she put her hand on my chest, grazed my body, and cupped my d.i.c.k in her hand giving it a little squeeze, leaning in and whispering, "I'll go pack some stuff for you while you call Nate. He's got a lot of making up to do, but he can't, if she quits. Call her too and make sure she's coming for the wedding. Then I can give you that happy ending you were hoping for." She gave me another squeeze, kissed my cheek and jumped off my lap. "You can explain everything else on the drive."
"How much did you hear?"
"Everything, you've got a lot of explaining to do as well." She gave me this look that I had a feeling I'd be seeing a lot of.
"Yes, dear."
"Good boy," she giggled and winked before she walked away.
I went behind the bar and grabbed the house phone. Walt declined the first call so I called again.
"What?! I'm Busy!" He yelled into the phone.
I laughed, "Picking out a crisis to make her stay?"
"Yes."
"Nate, put down the files."
"Why?"
"I'm doing it?"
"Doing what?"
"Changing everything."
The story continues with the other half of the Lupinski twins, Nate.
