"And it's still falling," reminded Audrey.
"I bet those lifts will be opening up by next weekend."
Maggie glanced over at Spencer with a smile.
But suddenly he grew sad, and at the same instant she
remembered his foot hidden beneath the table, still in its
cast. "Doesn't that thing come off in a couple weeks?" she
asked hopefully.
"Yeah, the doc said maybe by mid-December; if I'm
lucky." He looked glum. "I almost wish the snow hadn't
come yet."
"Oh, Spence," said Audrey, "I know how frustrated you
must be, but try to be happy for the rest of the town."

"It's just that I've been waiting forever for snow, and now
this stupid cast will make the next two weeks feel like two
years!"
"Well, after seeing your midterm grades, I think you
might be smart to use this time to catch up on some of your

might be interesting to talk with the Harris family-I bet
they'd like to hear about what Michael is doing here."
"Oh, yeah." Spencer pointed his spoon in the air. "Can
you believe that the day after Michael prays for snow, it
actually happens? Do you think it's a real miracle?"
"I think it's an amazing coincidence," said Audrey as she
placidly stirred her coffee.
"I'm not sure what I think," said Maggie honestly. "I
think it could be a miracle. I have no doubt that G.o.d could
do something like that-I'm just not sure why he would."
"Maybe it's just like Michael said." Spencer leaned back
in his chair. "Maybe it's to show how powerful G.o.d is."
"Maybe." Maggie b.u.t.tered a roll. "But it does make me
