Chapter 1 – Entering the Fray, Part 1

The flowers outside the window were brilliant; and as if to express some kind of anger, they bloomed with the most dazzling colors as they basked in the cold moonlight.

Like a charming and enchanting dancer, they were pleasing to the eye. Unlike the person leaning by the window.

Ji Yuan was holding a cup of hot tea. He used the cover of the cup to poke at the floating tea leaves, resulting in a ‘tik tik’ sound.

His face was expressionless as he turned, changing his line of sight away from person leaning on the flowerbed, who was holding out a flower to him. With a beauty even more charming than those flowers, had turned a blind eye.

His pair of pale-colored eyes was like glazed tile, emotionless; showing neither happiness nor sadness.

He had a delicate face carved from ice resumed its original expression, so cold that a layer of frost could be sc.r.a.ped off of it.

Seeing Ji Yuan’s pair of light-colored eyes turn away without a second glance, the man who was waving his hands from the flowerbed blinked and couldn’t help but sigh.

Walking slowly to the window sill, he slid the flower into Ji Yuan’s hair. Smiling, he said, “The moonlight is so nice tonight, how about we get married, ba?”

Ji Yuan’s gaze wandered around, unsure what they was looking for, but finally they paused for a moment and fell onto the man who had spoken.

A laurel tree was planted outside the window.

The tree, dense with leaves, blocked most of the moonlight, cutting the remaining light into countless smaller pieces like a sieve.

Bits of the moonlight scattered onto the man’s body.

His long, ink-colored hair floated in the wind. Under the moonlight, it looked gorgeous – like silk.

In his heart, Ji Yuan couldn't help but praise the man's handsome features.

However, on the outside, his face became colder. He took the flower out of his hair and threw it aside.

Using an indifferent gaze, like a mother-in-law picking out her son-in-law to criticize, he opened said, “Ye Junchi, stop daydreaming; it’s not even day right now.” Ji Yuan then flung the cup from and immediately shut the window.

Ye Junchi was not surprised. He held the cup in the air, floating, with a swish of his finger.
Reaching out, he took the cup and touched it with his slender hand.
His thin lips lightly touched the place where Ji Yuan's had earlier.
Then he drained the tea with a chuckle and turned away in a leisurely manner.

The boundaries between humans and devils were crossed, striking fear into the people’s hearts.
Rumoured to be a cruel devil lord, one reeking of blood, Ye Junchi's temperament in front of the little woman he had captured, and forced to marry him was so good, it made people wonder if they had seen the situation wrongly.

Ye Junchi remained calm and unruffled.

Well, for an ice cold beauty…he can’t go against her head-on.

Shifting into a more comfortable position, Ji Yuan continued to munch on the peach.

“The task to splash tea is completed, what is the next one?”

System went silent for a moment, then gave a hum.

“Refreshing. Searching for tasks right now.”

Finishing his peach with a few bites, Ji Yuan looked at his half-deflated chest.
Might as well take the other peach out to eat as well.

With a cold voice, the System said, “This is the territory of Ye Junchi. Anyone may come in anytime. You better take note of your image. Don’t let anyone find out that you are not a n.o.ble, icy cold beauty, but instead a creep, pretending.”

Ji Yuan furiously roared, “What creep?! You think I happily volunteered to pretend to be a lady?!”

System went silent for a moment, then replied with some sympathy in its tone, “My Condolences.”

Spitting out the peach’s pit, Ji Yuan went to pick two peaches from the fruit bowl and shoved them into his clothing.

The wide expanse of flatness immediately grew into full bulges, giving his body a beautiful curve.

The only downside to this was that they were quite heavy and shifted around with his movement; but they were covered by his clothing so it only looked like waves from the outside.
Still, he had to be careful to prevent ‘them’ from falling out.

Ji Yuan: “…” *sighed*

All this had started three days ago.

After being out all night drinking with a group of friends, Ji Yuan woke up to an expanse of darkness in front of him.

There was a persistent ‘zizi’ sound of an electrical current in his ears, causing a headache.
Not sure how much time had pa.s.sed, a clear and indifferent voice finally sounded in his head.

“Welcome to experience the ‘OOC Endurance System’. System serial number 2333 is here at your service.”

Ji Yuan: “… what did you say you are again?”

Indifferent voice : “2333.”

Ji Yuan was not able to react to this, thinking it was only a dream, and couldn’t help but laugh out loud in strange sounds, “23333…”

System coldly corrected him, “It’s 2333.”

Rolling his eyes, Ji Yuan had no intention of continuing to chat with this strange creature.
He closed his eyes, preparing to return to sleep but 2333 didn’t let him.

System : “h.e.l.lo, host. Please accept the mission’s character profile.”

A panel of information immediately appeared in front of Ji Yuan’s eyes.

Name : Ji Yuan

Gender : A girl with big ‘bird’*

Personality : Cold and silent, a person of few words, calm, not afraid of authority….

Current plot : Being forced to marry by the young master from Zhao family which is one of the four families from the cultivation sect, Yu Junchi pa.s.sed by and abducted Ji Yuan then requested Ji Yuan to marry him as a token of appreciation for saving him.

The moment he finished reading the information, he sneered.

“Superst.i.tion, what's with the ‘because there are strange signs calculated in life, if don’t act like a female, will die’? As someone who adheres to socialism, can I abolish this setting?”

[T/N : Sentence might sound a bit weird because I was trying to make it as short as possible for the impact. The word calculated means fortune-seller foreseen death in the future and recommended raising as different gender to confuse/escape fate :v]

System : “Number one, as someone who drink and fights the whole day, and a wastrel second generation. You are a bourgeoisie to the society and people don’t need you.”

System : “Second, if you dared to OOC, you will be immediately destroyed by the system.”

The tone of the voice sounded grim and not like a joke, so Ji Yuan could not help but shiver.

System : “Let me further explain. September 6, 2035 – You died of alcohol poisoning. Now there are two roads in front of you. The first one, follow the personalities of the original character and complete 2,333 tasks given to you. After you completed the mission, you will be able to be resurrected in your original world.”

System: “Second, OOC and then I destroy you.”

Ji Yuan: “…” What?

The amount of information was too much, he couldn't react in time…
Squatting down for a time, Ji Yuan finally realized that System didn’t crack a joke on him.

2,333 tasks sounded really scary at first but the missions were actually quite simple. For example, strange and trivial daily tasks like these:

“Go out and walk around but don’t let anyone finding out your real gender (0/1)”

“Need to squat down in the toilet to do small business (0/1)”

“Use big mantous* to replace the peaches as fake chest (0/1)”

“Use hot tea to splash on the devil lord (0/1)”

Ji Yuan was full of confidence and he believed that he would be able to fulfil the 2,333 tasks and return to his rich home to continue being a wastrel.

He returned to his senses after munching on a few peaches to find out that he accidentally ate his ‘chest’ again.
Embarra.s.sed, he went to pick two peaches to stuff his clothes again.
Then he noticed that the new task had appeared after a refresh so he flopped onto the bed without taking off his outer garment and read the information.

Upon waking up, Ji Yuan’s hand reached out due to habit and murmured, “Thirsty…”
A gla.s.s of water was immediately placed in his hand.
Ji Yuan shuddered and quickly sobered up.
With his heart pumping out of fear, he asked System whether his action just now was considered OOC.
Only after he received ‘Negative’ as the answer that he opened his eyes.
Seeing the devil lord smiling happily beside his bed, Ji Yuan held back his yawn and adjusted his demeanor.
Then he asked as cold as possible, “Why are you here?”

Ye Junchi laughed and said, “This is my devil palace, I can be anywhere I want to be.”

Ji Yuan’s heart started to shiver when he saw Ye Junchi take another step towards him, but due to his a.s.signed personality of ‘not afraid of authority/ not bowing down to the pressure of power’, he could only stare directly at Ye Junchi.

He asked System while his heart thumped away, “Is the next task out yet? I am very sc-scared with him staring at me like that…”

Although Ji Yuan was gay, the person in front of him was not his type.
He felt in danger when Ye Junchi stared unblinkingly at him. It caused him to get shivers down his spine.

2333 quickly replied, “There is a dagger at the side of your waist.”

Ji Yuan felt a bit of a headache and replied, “You’re asking me to give Ye Junchi a stab? He can fly, eh? Plus, he's quite skilled. And though he is not my type, he is so handsome, I can’t bear to hurt him, ah…”

Interrupting his thoughts, 2333 replied, “Better than stabbing your own neck.”

Ji Yuan: “… Big brother, are you giving up on me? I really can still be saved…”

A task suddenly appeared in front of his eyes and Ji Yuan gave it a glance.

“When Ye Junchi gets nearer, take out the dagger and threaten him to leave (0/1)”

Ji Yuan felt relieved, and he raised his head and looked at Ye Junchi who was leaning down with an unknown motive.

Ji Yuan's gaze abruptly turned serious and he swung out the dagger saying, “This dagger can slice through gold like mud.”

Ye Junchi gave a smile, “Oh?”

Slowly pushing the dagger against himself, Ji Yuan asked, “Do you think this dagger can kill you?”

Ye Junchi considered the possibility, then with a distressed expression he replied, “No, it can’t.”

Ji Yuan: “But it can kill me.”

Ye Junchi: “…”

Ji Yuan continued to press the dagger against his own neck, then he snapped, “Get out.”

Ye Junchi narrowed his eyes, giving off a dangerous aura.
