“Que Siyu? Is that you?” he asked. Bird went up to her, holding her shoulder, glaring at the girl in an old lady’s disguise. “Tell me, why did the calamities come to Taohua Village ten years ago?”
“You know about Taohua Village? Who are you really?” Siyu’s eyes were blank, seeing no living thing. Though she knew the young man had a connection with the village, she could not see him. “Bird Three? Are you Bird Three?” she asked, speaking the name with uncertainty.
“Yes, it is me. Bird Three of Taohua Village. Que Siyu, or shall I call you Lady Que? Lady Que, what happened to our village ten years ago? Why did I see a desolate place with only quietness covered by snow?”
“Bird, I can see any living creature; if it is you, would you give me some proof?”
Bird told her the details of their meeting and the events they’d gone through together. His description was so accurate that she accepted him as still living. Siyu hugged him tightly, smiling as tears dropped from her eyes.
“Bird, you are alive! You are here in front of me! Why didn’t you come to us earlier? Do you know what kind of life I have pa.s.sed through since you and your brothers were killed? The village had vanished. I was so sorry that I left you.”
“No. . . Siyu, it was fortunate for me that you and the others got the chance to escape from the monsters’ slaughter.” He released her. “Look at me; I am still alive. I believe they were as lucky as me.”
“What a fool you are!” She blamed him even though she was crying, saying, “Only you would be so positive. Call me Siyu, or Sisi, or anything you like, instead of Lady Que.”
“Then I would like to call you Sisi. Let’s leave here. I’ve had so many things to talk to you about since our departure.”
“Hey, you hurt my underlings heavily, and you want to leave so easily?” The leader threw away the monster meat in his hand, and went up to them.
“Since you know I am from the Que family, you should understand that n.o.body in our family is a loser. Why are you so stubborn as to challenge me? Do you hate your life?”
“You are such a young girl, and you dare to boast before me? Let me teach you a lesson.” The man took out his blade to slash at Siyu.
After several minutes, the leader and the rest followers were all groaning as they writhed on the ground. The leader’s face was as swollen as a pig’s.
But the one who beat him into such a state was not Siyu, but Bird. The leader failed to defeat Siyu quickly after several movements; however, he ordered his underlings to fight her as a group while he used some hidden weapons to aim at her. This shameless behavior irritated Bird, so he ran to beat him with his fists.
“Bird, stop! Or you will kill him!” Siyu finally shouted at him. Though her voice was serious, her heart was warmed by his protection.
“Oh . . . okay, I am sorry!” He stopped and returned to Siyu with a regretful smile. “I didn’t know he was so weak.”
“Lovely fool!”
Siyu found a way to find Bird through the monster of black and white in the red flame. “Let’s go. We can talk about the vanishing of the village.”
They left the wood and found a small sc.r.a.p house in which to take a break.
“Great! Aunt White didn’t die.” Bird heard part of the story and cheered about his Aunt White’s survival.
