I broke from my daze as I stared down at my hands. They were crimson red and dripping with blood.

(Congratulations!)

(Imprint leveled!)

(Imprint level 9.5 reached)

(Special Requirements needed for level 10!)

These boxes appeared in front of me, but I didn't care, I was looking down at the body cradled in my arms.

I could feel Ella's elation at what I had done, but I felt nothing. My insides were cold. Kuro's body was in my arms and her chest had been ripped open. Her bones were snapped and blood was splashed all over me. Her heart that used to beat and pump blood was gone and only a pool of blood was left.

I had just eaten that heart, no I had devoured it.

I had no clue what came over me as I killed her. I knew I hadn't really killed her, I would see her again. I didn't hold any animosity towards her, I rather felt a little bit of comradery. No matter what was said and done, I had travelled with her for the last few days and she has helped me.

Once I figure out what she was about, I could forgive the little game she was trying to play. I could understand where she was coming from. As a former gamer, I looked at non player characters (NPC's) the exact same way.

In games who would care about the NPC's? They were disposable if they couldn't give you a quest. What was the point of keeping them or caring about their sop stories, if you would later move on to greater things?

No one cared about the little girl, who would offer you a quest to get a missing necklace, or the guard that stood outside the town asking you to kill monsters. All 'Players' cared about was the EXP. The gain they would get from doing the quest.

They may get gear, EXP, or maybe something even better. A chain quest for example would lead people down a rout that might lead to legendary gear. Though at lower levels that was unlikely the principle always held. You would get something unique if you did a chain quest.

And that d.a.m.n G.o.d had turned my world into a game!

I didn't know where he grabbed people like Kuro, or Asura. But what I did know was that to them, all this was a game. When I had figured it out I was probably the most scared I had ever been.

If I was a NPC, was I actually alive?

This question appeared in my head the moment the deduction was made. If I wasn't alive, and all the memories before this started where a lie, what was I? Was everything scripted? Was I just a cog that would be exploited and never be able to take my revenge?

These mere thoughts almost pushed me off a cliff of no return. But when I felt the warmth of Ella who came to calm me down, when I thought of all I had been through and all the happy memories that I shared with my family, my life.

I knew this was just another ploy from G.o.d. He wanted entertainment and what better way to get entertainment than turning the world into a game? Introducing such a destructive force such as 'players', who would have no moral obligation to treat people right, to not senselessly murder, they would 'spice thing up.

I was sickened as I made my resolve to kill that G.o.d.

From that night on I had treated Kuro differently, she didn't know any better and everything to her was a game. So I watched her, I asked questions to gather information and set to a.s.sess the person know as Boosted KuroNeko.

And it was only when she showed true hatred towards the elves and compa.s.sion towards the slaves, was I a.s.sured that she was a nice person. She didn't have to feel anything, to what for her, could be called robots.

But she did, she empathized, she started to truly look at us as something more. At the start she did treat us like NPC's. All her odd behavior and the way she interacted with me. She had thought I was a special NPC, maybe someone that could give her a quest. Or maybe help her defeat this high level area, all for her orb.

The blue glow from the orb was off to the side, I had dropped it when I had killed her. My eyes weren't focusing that well.

It had side tracked myself to escape reality. I had been thinking about everything that had led up to this point, while ignoring what was right in front of me. What I had just done.

It was the first time I had eaten a person. Zombie, human, player. I had never eaten anything that closely resembled a human body before. I didn't want to; my last shred of humanity was pulling at me, telling me to stay away from that. To only eat animals if possible.

"Father what happened to her spirit?"

Ella sounded out from the side, she felt nothing wrong with what just happened. She was excited that I had finally done the deed as was more like her. Her imprint had even gone to max level. Well almost max level, from just this one thing.

I finally snapped out of my stupor and looked at her blankly. I had also noticed what happened to Kuro's spirit when she died. It had gathered a short distance away from her body and bundled together. After a few seconds it disappeared and I blanked out.

It was like I was in another person's body as I watched myself bite into her neck. And then make my way towards her heart. I couldn't stop myself and could only watch in horror as I gulped down the heart.

Finally after I finished I returned to myself and sat there in a daze. I wanted to puke; I wanted to feel disgusted at the taste. But I could do none of that, I hadn't been disgusted by the taste. I had instead enjoyed it.

I thought that might make my feel sick, but I felt nothing, my mind was still cold.

I think I was in shock at this point.

I dropped the body to the ground and collected all the gear around us. Ella got the elven treasure bow, I didn't look at its stats yet. I wasn't in the mood. I mechanically explained to her why the spirit gathered and then left.

Of course I couldn't tell her about 'players' and log out functions, and all that type of stuff. Instead I just told her, we would see the meal again. Ella was surprised at my declaration and I couldn't blame her, she had never thought a meal could be eaten and then come back. I would have to do more explaining later.

Rose was off to the side and watched on quietly. She said nothing as we got everything settled and made out way to the elf village.

The dungeon was going to be destroyed in 4 hours so we had to book it, to make it out.

Getting out of the dungeon, just before it collapsed, we made our way back to the elf village and the town square. The bodies of the dead elf army were still around, but I didn't mind them. I found a spare house to use. It was getting dark and I needed to sleep.

I needed time for my body to process me eating a person. I had stepped over a certain line. The question in my head right now, was if I should stay over that line and continue. Go back to where I was and never cross it again. Or find something else.

My thoughts were in a jumble as I let Ella go and collect the bodies.

"They may be a bit old, but they'll still taste good!"

She said that to me with a happy smile and made her way out.

Rose sat to the side looking down at a pendant in her hands. Her eyes had turned red from tears and I couldn't hear what she was saying. Probably a prayer towards her dead parents.

I lay on the stiff bed as I looked at the wooden roof above me. I didn't want to look at my status. I didn't need to check the skills, or attributes, or how much EXP I had stored. I needed to check my race. It should say human.

But as I lay there my hands dried with crimson blood, I was afraid that if I opened it up right now.

That it wouldn't show what I was expecting.
