I had been thinking all day about how to deal with the 'berserk rage' skill and had come no closer to thinking of an idea. I mean getting her to be cam while fighting was the only option, and I wasn't too sure why she was always so angry, when she fought.
But I guess fighting is supposed to push the nature of people in such a direction. When I wasn't thinking about this subject, we were fighting. We ran into more groups of prowlers and even a lone wolf. Thank G.o.d it wasn't part of a pack and when it had howled out, it wasn't calling for back up.
My heart almost jumped out when I saw it raise its neck and readied the windpipes.
We also ran into another 2 groups of Elves, but these groups only consisted of archers with 1 mage. Unlike the first group I found, having 2 mages didn't seem to be the norm.
Killing them had given out another 2 portions of the elf language and it wouldn't be long before I learned it. Then I could finally figure out what these guys were screaming about as they attacked me.
I hadn't been positive at the start that they were aiming to hurt me, as I could have been encroaching on their land, or have offended them. It could have been the reason they attacked me on sight all the time. Of course I wouldn't like them or could get along with them, as they had an abject hatred towards Ella. I couldn't get along with people like that.
But it had been confirmed for a fact that they were trying to find and kill me, when we ran into the third group of the day. Unlike the first 2 times that I had run into, where the elves and had been fighting a prowler or a type of beast, my group found them.
Meaning we were able to spot and get close to them without them realizing. This was helped by the fact they were having a meal. They weren't eating meat though; they stuck to fruit type foods and vegetables. It looked like the elves could be a vegetarian race.
I had thought to attack them straight away, but this conjecture had been weighing on my mind. I had to find out once and for all, if they were purposely trying to kill me. I had Ella and Kuro stay back and circle around to ambush them, if things went wrong. With their nods of approval and seeing that they had made their way around, I finally stepped out into the open, in a non-threatening manner.
I had my sword at my waist for obvious reasons and kept my guard up, but I made no threatening gestures towards them. Speaking out loud I let them know of my presence and then waited for their response.
They were surprised at first and then shouted at me. The first one to speak who was a mage didn't immediately attack, but as the other elves got into the conversation I saw 2 of them point at me and say something.
Once the words left their lips, the expression of the mage that was guarded, instantly transformed into a hideous grin. The condescending look, that he gave me right after, reminded me of the female elf I killed 2 days ago.
I clicked my tongue at the time, as the group sprang up and came in for the attack. Thinking they had me outnumbered they were very confident. Whatever had been said had lead them to instantly attack me, it confirmed that they were trying to kill me.
I didn't say any more as I pulled my sword and Ella and Kuro bursted out from behind them. What followed was a quick fight, with them being mercilessly slaughtered.
As we had already run into 3 groups for the day, we had decided that all the exp that dropped from the elves would be ours. The exp they dropped was way better than the beast and a lot easier to acquire. Another one of G.o.ds d.a.m.nable schemes no doubt. But I couldn't fault the practicality of killing another sentient being, and then taking most of their entertainment points and exp.
It was a lot easier.
All the beast kills would go to Kuro and she was very close to level 13 now. But as the sky was getting dark once again, we set up camp and got ready to eat.
My mind had wondered as I set up the camp on auto pilot, the pain in my feet and aches in my body had faded with the rest and didn't bother me anymore. In my rested state, I was caught staring across the flame at Ella how usually sat there.
In my blank state I watched as Ella was eating some of the elf meat we saved. Yeap, we saved some for later, as Ella loved the new taste. My spirit vision was active at most times, as it became a natural thing for it to appear with the increase in my SPR.
I watched Ella's mouth as it moved up and down and ripped through the tough meat. My mind that was blank sharpened as I noticed something. Through my spirit vision I could see most, if not all of the magical forces that permeated and ran through her body.
I wasn't sure if it would work for everyone, as I couldn't see the same for Kuro, it might have been because we were bound. The main point of the matter, was the spirit that solidified in Ella's mouth. There was a blackish energy that covered her mouth and then went back in her throat. It ran down her throat to her stomach, were it ended.
It pulsed lightly in my vision and I watched as it faded in and out of existence, always appearing when she went to bite into something. I had never noticed it before as I didn't usually look at Ella with my spirit vision and also because of the fact that the black spirit energy would disappear if she wasn't biting into something.
I tilted my head as I continued to watch, every time her mouth came down to chew on a piece of food, the black energy would concentrate on her teeth and group up on the tips. Once she was done with that, it would spread to the inside of her mouth and then I a.s.sumed follow the food down, as it was swallowed.
I looked down at the food that was sitting in my hand and went to bite it. Unlike Ella I couldn't objectively look at myself and couldn't determine if I had a black energy that gathered.
But this had to be the reason my teeth were so sharp right?
I had been taking the abnormal strengthening of my teeth for granted. I could use them at any time to instantly eat through bone and tough fur. But I had never really looked into what had made such a thing possible. Failing at my experiment to eat something myself, I looked back at Ella.
My eyes focused as I continued to watch her chow down. I think she started to notice and actually slowed down in her speed. I wanted to tell her to hurry up, so I could continue to observe, but that would be detrimental.
I had been teaching her some basic manners in how to eat and not to make so much noise. When she was first born and for quite a time afterwards, she was sooo loud when she ate. It was very distracting and attracted unwanted attention.
Because of this I had been teaching her how to eat normally. Thankfully it worked and she had even pointed out, by not opening her mouth, she could savor the taste more. I said nothing when she told me that and patted her on the head.
As long as she learns, right?
So, now as I watched her eat, she might have thought that I was a bit critical of how she was eating. I didn't say anything and continued to try and grasp what was happening.
In the end I couldn't figure out the fine details of what was happening. The black energy that arose and then dissipated came every time she bit into something. It would gather at the tips of her teeth, which would make it easier for her to bite through the food and then helped her to digest it.
It was actually pretty simple. As I watched intently, I could even see it destroy some of the food that entered her mouth. It could be possible that it was absorbing the best parts of the meal, or maybe destroying things that weren't needed.
In the end it had to be because of the imperial growth ability, there was nothing else that explained it.
After she had finished eating, the black energy disappeared and didn't return, it must pa.s.sively activate whenever we eat, or would my teeth always do that when I bite into something?
I contemplated all the new discoveries and finally got to bed after a little while. My body aches returned. Ella now had first night watch. She would wake me up for the second half of the night.
I didn't need to see anything else from Kuro.
We would probably run into more elves again tomorrow.
Would I see more treants?
I had figured by now that they were connected, but I wasn't sure how yet.
