Gazing at my reflection I slowly lifted my hand up and stroked my chin. My hands brushed past the rough beard on my face. It was starting to grow everywhere.
I hadn't noticed it till now, how much it had grown. My face looked a lot more grizzled than it used to be. I blinked as I stared into my eyes. They seemed like those of a stranger, one a blue hazel and the other a deep purple.
It had been red just a day ago, but after Ella's eyes changed so did mine. They glowed slightly as I continued to observe my new self. Yes I wasn't the same as I was last week. It had only been 6 days since this d.a.m.n apocalypse had been brought upon the world, but I had changed so much.
I was never a fit person, I wasn't obese, but I wasn't jacked, I was just normal. But now as I looked at my body it was toned, my muscles not too ripped but visible enough. h.e.l.l I would have been happy to look like this a week ago, but now I just thought of it as a stranger's body.
My hair was mattered down with grime and dirt, I had washed it a bit when I had the chance, but that barely helped. There were slight traces of red in the hair as the splattered blood just wouldn't come out.
I gripped the sides of the sink in front of me. My mind starting to question, was this my real body? As my thoughts continued on I heard my sisters' voice reverberate in my head.
"Is everything ok Father?"
The voice was one of concern, and was filled with a gentle tone. I quickly replied, she might just barge in here if I didn't.
"Yes everything is ok Ella."
I spoke out in my mind and she got my message, I could still feel some of her restlessness though. I was having trouble dealing with the new telepathy skill I had acquired. Instances like this would be sure to increase in the future, just thinking like I had before had alerted Ella.
I loosened my grip as the sink I had been holding fell into pieces. I started slightly before giving a hollow laugh. I sometimes forget how much strength I now wield. As I stared blankly I caught sight of something on my left inner arm.
My eyes lit up slightly as I stared at the only tattoo on my body.
I had gotten the tattoo just 1 moth ago, it was my first one ever and luckily enough the artist who was supposed to do it didn't turn up. Instead the owner of the shop stood in and did it. It was many times better than what the other guy could have done, and it was way cheaper.
I always wanted to get a tattoo when I got older, but I promised myself that any I got would mean something. I would never get a pointless tattoo, no matter how cool it looked. And after my Father died and I heard I would be getting a sister, I finally decided to get one, one that would have meaning.
Looking down at the black ink I saw 3 mountains. Each mountain represented where my family was born. The one on the left was the mountain my father was born under, the one on the right, my mothers. And finally the one in the middle that was surrounded by them was my mountain.
It was the mountain that was west of the town. I had been born under it and so was my sister.
Under the mountain range of ink the word ohana hung in capitals. Ohana the Hawaiian meaning for family, I thought it suited the meaning behind my tattoo.
It was a surprise that it was still their even after it had been eaten. I was sure that pieces of it would be gone after regeneration kicked in, but I was glad it came back. I would always have this tattoo now. My eyes felt misty, so I raised my head up and steadied myself.
My eyes were red in the mirror but I didn't mind that. I wiped them slowly with one of my hands before determination filled them. I turned my back on the mirror and walked outside.
Ella was waiting for me with a happy expression on her face; she knew I was ready to go. She had all her gear ready to go and a backpack slung over her shoulder. It was better that we both had backpacks this time. I didn't know when or if we would return.
Before we left I quickly flicked my wrist and retrieved a golden globe. It pulsed slightly as I stared down at it. I didn't waste time as I crushed it in my hand.
(Ice Skill Obtained!)
(Connection with plain of existence established)
(Frozen Rage Skill affected)
(Frozen Rage Effect added)
(Resistance Function Activated)
That was unexpected.
Before I could think more a cold feeling gathered in my gut and congregated. It was a biting chill that sent a shiver down my spine, while at the same time my eyes widened. My spirit vision that I had come to call it flared up and my eyes glowed deeply. I could see a small connection drift down from above and connect to my forehead.
The string was colored a deep blue and as it came to rest on my forehead I felt a tingling sensation in my mind. The cold that was congregating in my gut suddenly exploded and flowed through my whole body.
After a second the cold disappeared as if it was a lie, but through my spirit vision I could see that my body had been affected. It was a small stream of blue that was coursing through my blood and circulating through my body.
The stream tried to work its way across the purple thread that connected me and Ella but was blocked off as it tried. After a few attempts at pa.s.sing through the thread to Ella it gave up and came to rest in me. It settled down and the biting cold finally disappeared.
Ella looked at me worriedly for a while as I accustomed myself to what had just happened, and before long calmed down. Nothing else happened and in the end it didn't hurt my body at all.
I pulled up my status as I wanted to see what these new functions and abilities entailed; it had even affected my frozen rage. Why would that happen?

I felt a headache coming as I saw the changes to frozen rage, didn't that mean whenever I get angry, ice will spontaneously pop up around me?
Well that could be cool.
But then it's also dangerous as h.e.l.l.
I shook my head and thoughts about the resistance function that I had just unlocked. I got the general gist of it and it worked exactly like a game from the looks of it. The real question was whether it increased my bodies' resistance from its base, or adds a resistance to the actual element.
I couldn't determine which it was based of the description. The first one would mean that at 100% resistance my body would still get hurt by Ice and it is possible to go over 100%. While the second option meant I would be completely impervious to Ice at 100%. It just wouldn't be able to affect me at 100%.
This is a huge difference between the two and I had no clue how to test that out. I wouldn't know till I got it to 100%, and I don't know how to raise it. Most likely it will go up as my skill level rises but I'm not sure.
I shook my head before holding out my arm. I had never had an active skill before; I wasn't very sure if I should shout out the name of the skill or try and use it by will or something. Having to say the name of the actual skill as I used it seemed very stupid to me though, so I didn't even bother trying that.
I focused on the small blue stream that was coursing through my body and tried to force some of it to gather at my hand. It worked making me smirk, I think I was getting the hang of this.
It gathered in my hand and I focused to push it out through my fingers. After a few seconds of concentrating the stream finally broke through my skin and rested in my palm. The air cooled down as it appeared in my hand and a small piece of ice appeared.
I focused hard as I tried to expand it slowly, I didn't want to push myself too much. As I continued on, it started to get bigger and bigger, but as it was about to reach the size of a tennis ball my mind suddenly twitched, as a small amount of pain appeared. My body suddenly felt drained and the ball started to disappear.
My hand was shaking as I let it go and gasped for some breath. I hadn't noticed while I was staring but the amount of spirit I just used in that short while had drained me dry. My mental energy was sapped and my mind was running slow.
I had to sit down for a good minute before I started to feel fine again.
What the h.e.l.l is this bulls.h.i.t!
I had used the skill for only a short amount of time before I was running myself ragged. I thought once I could use the skill, I would be able to create gigantic ice shields and throw ice spears at Infected. When I had first met a mutant infected it had even fired a beam of light at me.
And now I couldn't even pull out a stupid snow ball for a few minutes. There was something wrong here; my spirit attribute should be high enough to use the skill. Something is wrong.
Did I somehow use the skill wrong?
I continued to think to myself as I recovered. I thought about it for a good while before deciding not to use the skill until I was in a safe place. I couldn't use it in a fight right now; it would be fatal if I collapsed while fighting. I would practice and find out what was wrong at a later date.
Felling that I was better I stood up again and a.s.sessed my body; the small stream of blue in my blood had thinned but was still circulating through it. I looked at it for a second before looking over to Ella. She looked pretty bored as I was recovering and I could feel that she was getting hungry.
I fixed myself and then starting walking towards the door. Ella jumped up with a happy Expression on her face.
"Let's go Sister."
She frowned slightly at the word, I think she wanted me to keep calling her by her name. But we had a talk about that last night, I thought of her as my sister and I wanted her to think of me as a brother.
"Ok Brother"
The words came weirdly out of her mouth as she chewed through it. She was still having trouble getting used to it, but it was necessary.
We made our way down to the first floor.
