Roberts screamed out loud as he read a small message coming from his EPC. 2 of their groups now had run into the daylight guild. The likelihood that their main guild team was here for city token was high.
"Where did the information leak!"
"Calm down."
His best friend Clyde spoke from the side, as a mage he was usually calmer than the hot headed Warrior commander.
"d.a.m.nit! Everyone form up! Battle ready positions!"
He may have been angry that the daylight guild was here, but he was still a guild leader, he knew what he needed to do. He formed up his guild teams into a defensive formation. He had sent 6 teams into the city to find the token. With 10 people per group they were left with 45 people here.
That also included the 5 natives, so in actuality it was 40 people. They hadn't seen hide nor hair of the daylight guild on their march to this abandoned town, meaning they were here before them or they were hiding.
Robert wasn't going to take any chance and went to full alert. If they were to be ambushed by the other guild they would take many losses, plus they had no clue how many they had brought with them. It would be good if they brought less than 100. But he had to think of the worst case scenario and prepared for them bringing around 200.
As daylight was a guild like them, being barred out of the top 10 in America, Robert could be sure they wouldn't be able to muster more forces for an expedition. Taking 200 people away from their main area of operation could invite solo players and player killers to take their fields, at worst even another guild.
He contemplated the idea of bringing all the teams back that were in the city, but it wasn't the best move. It was better for him to wait for news of the token and then move. If Daylight's main forces were spotted they could also respond.
****************************
It had now been 10 minutes since the first message was sent through his EPC. Both groups had sent short messages saying they had won their respective battles. It brought a small smile to Roberts face. Daylight might be a guild like them, but they were closer to the 20's where they were just outside the top 10.
They had better skills and battle practices. He was sure if his 10 man teams ran into daylight teams of the same number, they would come out on the winning side.
Robert just smiled to himself when one of the remaining captains came running up.
"Guild Leader!"
"Guild Leader! Important news!"
Clyde to his side spoke before he did.
"Captain Report!"
"Sir! I was just logged out for a small breather when I received the news!"
Robert started frowning, what could have possible happened?
"It's Fredrick, captain of the 5th squad!"
"He just sent me a message a few minutes ago, he said their team wiped out their opponents."
The frantic captain just shook his head, his eyes were wide with tension.
"No, no, he said their team was taken down!"
""What!!!""
Both Robert and Clyde shouted out loud. How come they didn't receive a message or any update that they were under attack? What happened?
"Tell us now!"
Clyde shouted out first, he was starting to get a bad feeling in his gut.
"He said that NPC killed him! The one from the trailer, with the silver haired woman! He's in the town! It was a complete ma.s.sacre, they couldn't even fight back, he took all their exp and items!"
"s.h.i.t, s.h.i.t, s.h.i.t, s.h.i.t!"
Robert started cursing in his head as he understood what was just told to him. Any and all of the NPC's that got a trailer had to be boss cla.s.s monsters; there was no way they would be able to take a character like that out.
's.h.i.t why the h.e.l.l is he here?'
Robert thought in his mind as he tried to think of what to do next. Do they retreat? Do they try and negotiate, tell him they mean him no harm? Could they take him down?
The last thought past through his mind, but he shook it off. Who hadn't seen those trailers before entering the game, that d.a.m.n psycho, had an advanced AI and had taken on armies of monsters. His mind flashed to the 2 brief scenes of the person taking on a wolf army and an elf town.
With it being 3 or so months since those incidents, how powerful would the person be now? He couldn't even begin to think of what level that person might have reached.
As Robert was caught up in his thought, the captain was still standing there wanting to say something. Clyde who had also gone off into his own thoughts snapped out of it first and looked at the captain.
"Is there more?"
The captain nodded his head furiously!
"Fredrick also said he has the City Token!"
""What!!!!""
Both of them screamed out again at the information. The only reason they had come here was for the token, and now the d.a.m.n thing was in that NPC's hands? That meant they had to fight him to get it back!
"f.u.c.k!"
Robert cursed, any plans he had in his head just went up in smoke. He started kicking the ground in frustration, losing his image of a guild leader in seconds.
"Why couldn't this have been easy!"
Robert yelled in frustration to the sky, blaming the game developers for such an occurrence.
"Wait! Not good!"
Clyde to the side, that had stayed silent, suddenly spoke out, his eyes turning very serious. He thought for another few seconds before hurriedly turning to Robert.
"Call back all the teams right now!"
He basically screamed at Robert who was still throwing a tantrum. Robert was shocked by the outburst before his mind came back to him. It raced a mile a minute as he thought of all the information he just got.
That NPC, whatever his name was, was in town. He had the town token. He had just ambushed their team and taken all their exp and gear drops. It was then likely that he would continue and kill everyone that had come here for the token.
That meant the daylight guild, and them!
He quickly pulled up his EPC and started typing a message; they had spent a lot of EP to buy EPC's for all their captains and had the guild function on them. With it they could send messages fast and effectively, getting real-time updates on situations.
It was this that allowed him to keep in touch with all groups and gave him security in letting the teams roam about. They couldn't afford one for all guild members so only their captains and high ranking personnel had gotten one so far.
This was after they used nearly all of their EP they collected from the guild, that wasn't spent of gear and weapons.
Robert quickly typed out a message, he was frantic. It had only been a few minutes since he last received a message but it felt like a life time.
(All Teams retreat right now! I repeat all teams retreat and group up with the main force!)
After writing that quick message he sent another.
(All teams sound in with confirmation of this message!)
After sending off the message Robert stared down at his device, a small sweat was starting to build on his forehead. Clyde and the other captain next to them also saw the message and quietly waited for a response.
The tension was building in the air as they waited, a few seconds pa.s.sed and a small blip sounded.
*Blip*
(Team 3 Responding, Message received.)
Even though one message had come in the area was still dead quiet. They waited for a full minute before Robert shivered. It shouldn't take this long for any of the teams to respond.
'Could they have already….'
The worse thought came to his mind as he realized that if that was the case, none of the teams had sent a message out. How terrifying was that!
Robert couldn't keep his calm anymore.
(Team 3 Get Back Right now!)
...
A minute pa.s.sed.
(Team 3?)
...
(Team 3 Respond!)
...
Robert clenched his hand tight and stared into the city that was a ghost town. There was no sound of screams or clashes of metal that could be heard. It was an eerie quiet.
"s.h.i.t! Everyone stay on high alert! I want to know if a bush f.u.c.king moves!"
""""""""Sir""""""""
Everyone around him responded with loud voices as they went on high alert.
In the back of his head there was a small voice that was getting stronger by the second.
'Maybe we should leave here right now'
**********************************
I looked at the dead woman in front of me. She was wearing a combat dress and armour, with a sword strapped to her side. The light in her eyes was gone, the earth spike through her body no doubt the reason.
I reached down as I saw the EPC she was wearing blinking. Turning her arm over to get a good look at the small message that appeared, a small smile reached my lips.
Guess they know now.
Rose came to my side and looked down at the body. She said no words as she reached out with her hand and used 'Demonic Kiss'. Soon there was nothing but a mummified corpse in front of me. My spirit vision could see the energy that was absorbed start to strengthen her.
I looked away as I crushed another globe. There were still a few people left in town.
Better deal with them first.
