Epilogue – You Were a Zombie?
Epilogue: Part 1
I stood in the shadows in one corner of our school grounds, staring at girls. They were playing volleyball, looking quite healthy and seemed to be having lots of fun.
Well, to be more accurate, I was watching Tomonori as she played with a big smile on her face.
“Aikawa, just look at those b.r.e.a.s.t.s. This is the best, isn’t it? I just want to jump right in there with them.”
“Those things are probably best left unsaid.”
“Hm? I mean, I’m a mammal after all.”
Well… it’s not like I couldn’t understand where he was coming from.
Orito was standing next to me, giving me a pointless running report on which girls looked best in which ways. I always collapsed when I was exposed to too much sunlight, so during gym cla.s.s I usually just watched from the shadows.
Orito was called for a match and left me, so I was left alone. I lay down on the floor.
Dai-sensei was taken away, and I couldn’t do anything about it. If Kyouko got her hands on a masou weapon like this, what would I do?
As always, it took my all just to barely survive the situation.
Was that really enough? Was it really alright for me just to be able to brush away the sparks that had fallen on us?
“Aiiiikawaaaa~~, what are you doing?”
Suddenly feeling someone staring at me, I twisted my body up.
“Tomonori… what happened with the volleyball match?”
“We won, of course. I’m not the type to go easy just because I’m going against humans.”
“…… Using the strength of vampire ninjas is just unfair.”
“… The strength of vampire ninjas… hey, am I… am I really a vampire ninja?”
Tomonori sat next to me, with her knees in front of her, and rested her head on her knees. Seeing her chest being squeezed by her thighs like that just reaffirmed to me the fact that zombies were definitely mammals.
“I’ve always thought that I was a vampire ninja that could summon fireb.a.l.l.s. But there really aren’t ninjas like that, are there?”
“Yeah. I haven’t heard of a ninja like that.”
“Hmm, I’ve been thinking. I have this really unusual liking for oil. And I don’t get hungry. Could it be… I’m a robot or something?”
“That’s probably just that masou weapon person. I don’t think he’s a robot… maybe something more like a modified human? Like, a sorcerer or a summoner or something like that.”
“Ugh, so I’m really not a vampire ninja…”
Tomonori let out a lonely-sounding sigh, and I scratched the back of my head.
“Well, if you believe it, isn’t it fine?”
“Huh?”
“I think of myself as a zombie. To be honest, I have no idea what something like me would be called, but I think of myself as a zombie. So no matter what other people say, I’m a zombie.”
“What’s that supposed to mean? I have no idea. Ahahaha!”
Tomonori opened her mouth wide and laughed.
“But that’s all a high school student like me could say.”
“… Well, I guess I’ll do that. If my husband tells me something like that, then I really have no choice but to follow his advice.”
“Just quit it with the husband business. Can’t we just be friends?”
“By the way…”
“Hmm?”
“You were a zombie?”
She didn’t know…?
Tomonori flashed her teeth and gave me a broad smile, and I couldn’t help but give her a smile in return.
