Chapter 2273: Transferred Out of the Capital

Before Qiao Mei could clarify what had happened, Xia Wen had already hung up the phone. Qiao Mei was so scared that she quickly grabbed her coat and ran out. Da Zhuang and Xiao Zhuang followed closely behind and Qiao Mei reached Xia Jun’s house in less than 20 minutes.
“Grandfather! What happened to Grandfather! What happened to Grandfather!” Qiao Mei rushed into the house in a panic and shouted.
Xia Jun was sitting on the sofa and looking at Xia Guang with a stern expression. When he saw Qiao Mei, he looked much more benevolent. He smiled and said, “Mei Mei, you’re here~ Come and sit with Grandfather.”
“Grandfather, what’s wrong? What happened? Are you alright? Are you feeling unwell? I have medicine here. You should take some! Let’s go to the hospital immediately!” Qiao Mei squatted beside Xia Jun and asked nervously.
Xia Jun stroked Qiao Mei’s head gently and said, “Silly child, what can be wrong with me? I’m doing very well!”
“Huh?” Qiao Mei was stunned for a moment. She quickly turned around to look at Xia Wen, who was standing behind Xia Jun, and questioned him, “Then why did you call and say that something had happened to Grandfather?”
“Grandfather is fine. It’s that something has happened at home,” Xia Wen said.
Qiao Mei stood up and gave Xia Wen a hard kick as she said, “Then why don’t you speak clearly! I drove at 150 miles per hour to get here!”
When Xia Jun heard this, he glared at Xia Wen and said, “What’s wrong with you! Why didn’t you make yourself clear on the phone! Did you even learn anything I taught you in the past! Don’t be like this in the future!”
“Fine, fine, fine. It’s my fault!” Xia Wen said. Qiao Mei was the family’s favorite. If he offended Qiao Mei, anyone in the family could kill him, including Mo Zhu.
Mo Zhu pulled Xia Wen’s ear and whispered, “I’ll teach you a lesson after we go home!”
After Qiao Mei calmed herself down, she realized that there was a strange atmosphere in the house. It had nothing to do with the eldest and second sons’ families and it was Xia Guang’s family who did not look too happy.
Qiao Mei made her way to Xia He’s side and asked softly, “What’s going on? Why is the atmosphere so awkward?”
“It’s nothing good. Third Uncle’s family is being transferred out of the capital and Third Uncle has it the worst. He’s being sent to the border again like last time but the remuneration is worse than before!” Xia He explained softly.
Qiao Mei came to a realization. So this was what the Huang family meant two days ago when they said that they would use their connections!
In the past, the Huang family had nurtured many trusted aides and given them many benefits. These people were very insignificant compared to the Xia family and could not touch the Xia family’s eldest and second sons’ families at all. However, the third son was not as valued at home and it was very easy to attack his family.
This was probably the last time that these aides would risk their lives for the Huang family. From now on, they had paid off their debts to the Huang family and they no longer owed each other anything.
“Why… why do I feel that Third Uncle keeps glaring at me? He looks like he wants to kill me,” Qiao Mei said.
“You’re right. He wants to kill you,” Xia He said gloatingly.
The two of them did not really speak softly and Xia Jun could hear them. He immediately tapped the floor with the walking stick in his hand and said, “What’s the use of venting your anger on your own family members! They’re not the ones who did this! You should think about how to do your job properly!”
“We… we’re not here to cause trouble. We’re not complaining. We just want to know what to do next. What exactly has happened?” Xia Guang said as he sighed.
Qiao Mei curled her lips in disdain. She did not believe that Xia Guang did not have any complaints. These words were meant to coax Xia Jun! If Xia Jun was not here, he would have rushed up to tear her apart long ago!
The third son’s family was well aware of what had happened at Qiao Mei’s house over the past few days, but Li Gui was not their direct in-law after all and she was not related to them! This matter had nothing to do with them! It was already good enough that they did not kick her when she was down!
The Huang family members were really crazy! They were like mad dogs biting people randomly! They even wanted to vent their anger on the third son’s family! How lawless!
“The Huang family came to ask us for medicinal wine some time ago, but we didn’t give it to them. It’s probably because of this matter,” Xia Wen said calmly.
“Yes! Well done! Bad guys are not worthy of drinking our medicinal wine!” Xia Jun said in support.
Qiao Mei smiled in satisfaction. It felt so good to have family members backing her up. It was as if no matter what she did, there would always be unconditional support for her!
“We can’t do that! Aren’t we just forcing the Huang family to a dead end? We should give them a way out so that it won’t be awkward when we meet again in the future!” Xia Guang said anxiously.
“They don’t have any future. All the Huang family members have been poisoned. It’s a blessing if they can still live for a few more years,” Qiao Mei said.
People like them, who were poisoned by pesticides, would end up with fibrosis and organ failure and eventually die painfully. This was how Huang Kai pa.s.sed away. It was only a matter of time before the other members of the Huang family died.
