"There are more and more people on board by now. We know that everyone needs money, so we will pay you your salary on the first of every month to make sure that you have enough for the month! The three men's wives helped out with many things every day and Li Gui kept tabs of that. For processing pig offal, each of them would be paid 50 cents a day. If they helped with the corn, they would be paid the same amount as Zhou Shuang and Sun Juan.

Li Gui did not announce the amount which each person received. Instead, she first explained to them how their salary was calculated before handing individual envelopes to everyone.

Actually, Chi Ze and the other men also did not know their real scope of work all day. As long as they saw there was work to be done, they would simply do it and help out as much as they could.

Everyone went back after that. When they reached their rooms, they all drew the curtains, looking forward to seeing how much money was in the envelope.
