It was only after the 4th emperor of carnage, the same one that destroyed the Marble Sand Sect, led an alchemic research team into improving the effects of the berserk pill, that it became the crazy drug that it is today. The effect duration had changed from 15 minutes to 5 minutes, while the increase in strength ama.s.sed to almost an stage's worth of cultivation. Of course, this effect would grow weaker the higher the cultivation stage of the consumer is.
The worst part about it, was the weakened state that would come afterwards. A cultivator that has at least reached the 3rd stage would become as weak as an wrinkly old dog, while a cultivator below that stage would directly die. The duration? They would stay in that weakened state for at least a decade, before they can restart their cultivation from scratch. For cultivators, most of whom usually have at least a few enemies, this might as well be a death sentence.
Back in that era, this improved berserk pill was only meant to be used as a last resort. Unfortunately, its recipe somehow managed to be pa.s.sed on to this current time, completely replacing the original formula.
In a way, what Seth said about the consequences of this pill being 10 times worse, could be an understatement.
...
In a patch of blue sky far, far, away, an earth dragon over 70 meters long, with a wing-span twice the length, was soaring through a clouds. Its shoulders are wide, but its body is lean, with no signs of excess fat. Its muscles are large, especially around its arms, legs, and wings. Its fangs are tough and sharp. Spikes lined its spine, and a pair of horns grew out of the back of its head.
...If it weren't for the wounds all over its fleshy body, it would have looked incredibly imposing.
Its bat-like wings are tattered full of holes. The spikes growing out of its back are broken and snapped. Looking from above, the majority of its brown scales are either missing or cracked. There are countless scars running deep into its body. Trails of blood flowed from its mouth to its chin, and one of its eyes was cut.
...It looks like a dragon that had barely escaped death.
Despite its horrible state though, the dragon did not look for a place to rest or recover. It was flying with a destination in mind. The one remaining eye it has, keeps on radiating endless hatred.
As soon as the clouds in the distance parted, it was able to spot its target.
A gargantuan city is floating among the clouds, like an island in the sky. Compared to this city, the 70 meter long dragon could only be considered as big as a bug. It would be one of the bigger bugs, but still a bug nonetheless.
Tall white towers were erected all over the city, stabbing into the atmosphere. The walls of all those buildings were made out of some kind of green metal, but all of them were coated in a transparent white layer. Compared to the lands of heaven, where the G.o.d of Creation and the angel species live, this city looks even whiter. Bright white lights lit up all parts of the city at all times, giving it a holy ambiance.
When the injured earth dragon closed its distance to that gargantuan city, several beams of white light shot at it from afar!
The dragon weaved around the beams with its tattered wings. Because its wings were damaged, it could not use them alone to fly. Instead, heavy gusts of wind kicked up all around it, allowing it to agilely maneuver through these beams. These gusts were summoned through the use of magic.
The closer the dragon got to the city, the more beams of light shot at it. It went from several, to many, to an innumerable amount. By the time the dragon reached the airs.p.a.ce above the city, the outer parts of its body were badly scorched. Even so, the beams didn't do too much damage to it. As an earth dragon, its defense is incredibly high. Unfortunately, these beams are just the appetizer.
At this point, the beams stopped coming. Instead, what appears to be a large flock of doves from afar, started lifting into the sky en ma.s.se. One large group rose after another. Looking closer, they are actually humans.
These humans have transparent white wings growing out of their backs, flapping, and bringing them up into the air. Each of them have a large white halo floating behind them too.
These humans are beautiful. To use a saying from a certain type of novel, each and every one of them looks like a G.o.d or a G.o.ddess among men. Despite them being human, their beauty is comparable to that of the most beautiful monster species that lives on the lands, the elves, although the vibes they give off are wholly different.
The clothes they wear are fit for royalty. There were none among them who looked too fat or too thin. Despite some of them looking older than some others, there are none among them whom look like elders. It is as if they are a collection of the most perfect human beings on earth.
There are several races among them, as can be told by the subtly different skin colors between their groups, but each of the aforementioned descriptions can apply to them all.
The sky above the city filled with countless overlapping auroras, turning it into a constantly changing rainbow of sorts.
The winged humans flew toward the evil monster invading their city, preparing spells all at the same time.
ROARRR~!!!
The dragon let out a deafeningly loud growl. Then, its huge body shot further up into the air. It activated a spell of its own, surrounding its body with a field of large rocks that formed out of midair. This field of rocks surrounded him in every direction in a radius of many kilometers. These rocks would act as shields to defend him from the spells of the winged humans.
The bombardment arrived.
The field of rocks erupted into countless colors. The countless rock shields were being torn down at a fast rate. The impacts from the spells travel all the way to the dragon at the center of the rock field.
Withstanding the attacks, the field continued moving forward, as did the dragon within it. They moved as fast as they could.
The number of rock shields decreased continually.
Soon, the magic attacks reached the dragon's body.
The attacks whittled away at his body. Gritting its teeth against the pain, the dragon continued moving, heading toward the largest and most majestic building in the center of the city.
Eventually, the entire field of rocks was gone, and its whole body became covered in blood. Almost all of his skin has been destroyed, revealing the red flesh underneath. As the spells continued striking him, that flesh was chipped away, to reveal the bones beneath.
A tall man covered in an extravagant, shiny, dark blue armor, walked out of that most majestic building. He took out an imperial red gun as big as the average man's forearm.
He activated a few spells. Then, he uttered the words, "Dirty monster.".
He pressed the trigger.
BANG!
A streak of intense light came out from the barrel, along with a burst of fire. The charged bullet broke through the sound barrier and flew like a firebird, as it shot straight at the earth dragon's head!
Due to the bombardment, the dragon's body was already falling apart. It limbs and its wings are gone, leaving behind b.l.o.o.d.y stumps. Its remaining eye has also been destroyed. Its blood-filled throat let out a final roar as it hoa.r.s.ely screamed out its last hate-filled words. "DIE, HUMANS!!! TRIBULATION OF G.o.d'S STRIKE, FALL~!!!"
At the moment the bullet shot through the dragon's head, disintegrating its soul, far up above even this sky-high white city, from a belt of asteroids that exists in the dark and starry outer-s.p.a.ce, one black light, and one white light, simultaneously shone on a single asteroid.
That asteroid was pulled out of its belt, and then plunged straight toward the earth, becoming a streaking meteor. It continuously accelerated, increasing in speed and force. When it broke into the earth's atmosphere, facing the air's resistance, it quickly began heating up. But despite the friction, mysteriously, the meteor did not shrink at all! Its entire ma.s.s, almost 10 kilometers in diameter came plummeting down to earth.
If it hits, despite this earth being millions of miles wide, at least one entire continent would be torn apart with raging flames and fiery winds.
The meteor seems as if it had become the center of the sky. Shock-waves produced from its ridiculous power, roiled out of it as it burned up the clouds and closed in on the city. Those shockwaves seem strong enough to shatter anything.
The meteor had already broken through the atmosphere, and was getting bigger and bigger as it dropped further down.
The wing humans below could feel an unimaginable heat, as the shock-waves rattled their minds and bodies.
They coughed out copious amounts of blood, and their spells were disrupted.
Suddenly, these beautiful humans... for a portion of them, their smooth and flawless, outer layer of skin started to crack, fall apart, and reveal the wrinkly skin underneath. For all of them, the transparent bird-like white wings growing out of their backs, turned into red, reddish black, or even deep black, bat-like wings. The white halos behind them changed into these same colors as well, while sprouting horns at the same time. It was as if an illusion was broken, and they changed from angels to demons.
The powerful shock-waves struck the skysc.r.a.per like buildings as well.
The light of countless rows of runes lit up simultaneously on the walls of these buildings, charging with magic energy from bottom to top. Faint sounds of mournful screams seem to come from under those buildings.
The buildings began to glow with white lights, as transparent barriers rose up to cover the city.
The shock-waves would land on those barriers, causing them to shake intensely. The more intensely those barriers shook, the more painful those faint screams from below the buildings seem to sound.
Soon, the meteor itself would land upon the city.
A voice filled with annoyance sounded out within the most majestic building, as a single unblemished hand rose up with an open palm. "Another foolish creature of a lowly race, thinking it can challenge the G.o.ds..."
A transparent hand, exceedingly similar to the hand that just rose, but far more gigantic, appeared above the building and above the gargantuan white city.
Before the meteor could even touch the tip of that most majestic building, the gigantic hand struck back at it. The impact between the two was enough to shake the world! Or more precisely, that was exactly what it did!
The sky dispersed!
The air trembled!
The earth cracked!
The image of the world seemed to distort, as if s.p.a.ce and time had gone out of control.
Loud rumbling sounds spread everywhere, silencing only when they reached the edges of the continent.
The gorgeous humans of this city went past puking blood. Now that the meteor is this close, the shock-waves that it is letting off in its clash against the gigantic hand, are deafening! These people are now holding their heads and their bleeding ears in intense pain, shouting, "G.o.d! G.o.d! G.o.d!", over and over again, as though they are pleading for salvation.
The gigantic hand trembled as it pushed back against the meteor. The stalemate that had existed until now, seemed to shift, as the meteor began being pushed up.
1 meter, 10 meters, 100 meters, a kilometer. It kept rising, at a rate that seemed too slow, yet was actually fast.
Soon, the hand had pushed its way up above the atmosphere, carrying the heavy meteor with it.
Then, with the sound of a grunt, the meteor was forcibly thrust back up into outer-s.p.a.ce.
The black and white light that was covering it disappeared, and it merely floated in the void, as nothing more than an ordinary rock in outer-s.p.a.ce.
The person in that most majestic building, slowly lowered his hand. That hand had turned stiff, and a searing pain could be felt on it.
That person said nothing. It was as if the pain was not even worth mentioning.
The crisis was diverted.
Humanity had won.
The evil monster had fallen from the sky, becoming a mere splat on the ground.
The perfect people regained their pure white wings and pure white halos. They cheered for for their G.o.ds with increasingly loud voices.
