The cannon brought forth by the Wolfing gang wasn't something that was bought from an immortal city, as the people in those cities would not be stupid enough to sell something so dangerous to potential enemies.

It was instead, something made by the Wolfing gang based off of an older model of the cannons used by immortal cities. It took several tries and innumerable lumps of iron for the Wolfing gang to create a cannon that would not easily explode on them when lit.

Now, you might ask, why did they not bring forward this weapon earlier?

The substance called gunpowder is monopolized by immortal cities, and those greedy illegal weapon sellers do not want to sell it as is. In order to make a greater profit, they only sell it in the forms of bullets and grenades.

To get raw gunpowder, the wolfing gang would have to buy either bullets or grenades, and then pour the gunpowder contents out of them... ama.s.sing it bit by bit.

Each shot of their cannon would require at least a few pounds of gunpowder. The rate of monetary expenditure when using their cannon, can be imagined. This, coupled with the chance of an explosion, made Ronold Wolf not too keen on using this weapon as anything other than a last resort.

The city walls of mortal cities were built thicker with the existence of cannons in mind. Toppling these walls with a cannon would still be possible, but not with just seven or eight shots. Toppling the gate of a wall however, would be comparatively easier, though it would still take some time.

After working together to prepare the cannon, the bandits loaded the gunpowder.

They pushed a cannonball as big as a man's skull, but much heavier than a mere skull, down the bore of the cannon. They yelled at their comrades in the moat to part away from the line of fire. The fuse was lit. Then...

BBANGG!!!

A loud roar echoed out from the cannon, as thick smoke came out of it and its body sprung backwards from the recoil. The roar went through the ears of all the bandits, shocking their eardrums. It startled all the soldiers on the walls, and forcibly attracted their attention. Even the citizens behind the walls were startled.

The cannonball flew at a breakneck speed, speeding over the land, pa.s.sing over the moat, until it slammed hard into the city gate!

QUAKE RUMBLE

Haradur city's western wall shook. The bandits that were still climbing the wall fell off. The soldiers that were on top of the wall felt that they were experiencing an earthquake, as some of them tumbled to the floor, while others held onto the ledge to prevent themselves from falling over.

A crack appeared on the city gate, but it did not fall apart.

As soon as the bandits in charge of working the cannon got back their wits, they once again began preparing the cannon, cleaning the cannon from inside to outside to prevent it from malfunctioning the next time it fires. When the cannon finally cools down, that is when it will be lit again.

Standing on the part of the western wall above the gate that was struck just the moment before, the city lord, Merab Zefer's eyes narrowed as he looked at that menacing black cannon in the distance. He quickly calmed his troops, and then voiced some more commands. As they had expected, it looks like the outcome of the battle with these bandits will be decided today.

...

Klark Bilin felt that he is the most pitiful man on earth.

He was once the 2nd son of a great family in a mortal city filled with several thousands of people. He was not born with any talent for martial arts, but he was born with a good head over his shoulders, allowing him to still be valued by his father.

He remembered how his elder and younger brothers bullied him when he was a kid. But after he grew up and showed his abilities in managing the businesses under the control of their family, they stopped.

He lived a pretty comfortable life ever since, doing all his work in a safe backseat position while enjoying the status that his family gives him.

Unfortunately, one day, bandits showed up at their house and coerced his father into working with them.

When Klark learned of that, he sighed. He knew that doing that was taking a risk, but perhaps, their family had no choice. His father was already the oldest among the 3 great family lords of Haradur city, and he was only getting older. His older brother was not talented enough, and was still not ready to take over as the next lord of the family. If enough time pa.s.ses, sooner or later, they would start losing out to the other two great families of Haradur city. If they made enemies of a big bandit gang too, then his father might not be able to handle the stress.

After his Bilin family was actually defeated, Klark surrendered the first chance he got. He was not as stubborn as some stupid martial artists that would fight to the death for the sake of their pride. He begged for his life.

Luckily, or perhaps it was because of the relationship between his elder brother's youngest daughter and Merab Zefer's third son, he and those of his relatives whom had surrendered were not immediately killed, and were instead thrown into prison. At that moment, inside his mind, Klark thanked Seth with all his heart, completely forgetting that he had once plotted against the kid.

He thanked him... until one day, when he overheard from an envious prison guard, that Seth had reserved all of the young women of the Bilin family, including Klark's wife and concubines, as his playthings. Ever since, he has been silently cursing Seth's name over and over again.

But then, weeks later, when he was sent in for an interrogation, he met the kid himself, and... he nearly peed his pants.

One of his male relatives, who had surrendered just like he did, was lying on the side, with a hatchet splitting down the middle of his head, with his eyes still open, expressing blatant shock and disbelief.

Seth himself was sitting on a chair, behind a table, smiling at him with sparkling eyes. At that moment, Klark took the wisest action he could possibly take. He did not run. Instead, he blabbered out everything he knew.

"Take my wife, take my concubines, take the money I hid behind my father's back! Just don't kill me!" He desperately yelled.

Having survived that ordeal, he is now living the life of a slave. Over the few weeks before the battle with the Wolfing gang began, he was forced into digging a moat outside the city.

A man with a feeble mortal body and a good brain like him, straining his flesh under the sun, digging a moat? That is such a waste, he felt. It was not until the early morning of the fifth day of the battle that he found out there could be an even more unpleasant work for a male slave.

"Andddddd~ Stab!"

Following the prompt of a male servant of the Zefer family, one who is supposedly a butcher, Klark and some other male prisoners each picked up a sharp wooden pole, and thrust it like a spear.

In front of each of them is a slab of meat. Yes, it is nothing more than a big slab of meat, held up by some more male prisoners, with its a.n.u.s pointing at his direction. The meat was rotten but still not hard enough that a sharp wooden pole cannot stab through it.

With a squelching sound disgusting to the ears, the sharp wooden poles stabbed into their targets. Putting all the strength he could muster behind his back, Klark pushed the sharp wooden pole in through the a.n.u.s, as far as it could go. When he was done with this one, he wiped the sweat off of his forehead with his forearm, picked up another pole, and awaited the next slab of meat.

He knew, that after this day, even if he were to be freed, he would never be able to enjoy committing a.n.a.l s.e.x ever again...

...

BBANGG!!!

The cannon roared for the 6th time.

Ronold Wolf watched as the gate of Haradur city's west side crumbled apart into dust and rubble. The opening that was left afterwards is not big, being only wide enough for a single carriage to get through at a time. But for these bandits, it is an opening big enough for them to invade the city with.

Upon seeing the gate fall, Ronold Wolf immediately ordered his men with a loud shout, "CHARRRGGGEEE!!!"

The bandits on the moat rushed into the open gate with great fervor. The last 4 days of fighting had withered down their numbers to little more than a third of their original count. They died starting from the ones that were the weakest of the weak. The weak were eliminated, and the strong survived, getting even stronger after gaining more combat experience.

Now that the gate has opened, they can finally reap their rewards. The city full of helpless citizens has become their playground now!

That was what all the bandits thought... until arrows longer than a man is tall, and thicker than a spear is fat, flew at them in droves.

The bandits, whom have excitedly squeezed in through the gate, were bunched up, making them perfect targets for these penetrative ballista bolts. Each ballista bolt stabbed big holes through several bandits in a row before finally losing their momentum. This wouldn't have been possible if they weren't bunched up.

Whether their cultivation levels was at the late unforgiving mortality stage, or the peak unforgiving mortality stage, as long as these bandits had not broken through to the heroic bearings stage, they would die being unable to avoid these ballista bolts.

Only those bandit officers, with their eye of forewarning death, noticed the danger as soon as they stepped into the city. Backing away as soon as possible, they were able to escape.

"F***! They have ballistae here!!"

Hearing the shouts of his retreating officers, Ronold Wolf understood. "So, they reserved some ballistae to use in the city... Prepare the cannon. We will fire one last round, and then, all men, officers, and vice-chiefs, follow me into the city!!" He roared.

About 20 minutes later, one final cannonball shot through the gate, like a baseball through the mouth of a pitching screen. The black streak proceeded with a sound of burning air, as it plowed a trail straight through the city. Anything that stood in its way was shot through and destroyed, including the ballistae that were stationed directly in the path lead into by the open gate, along with the soldiers that were manning them.

A BOOOM!! was heard when the cannonball finally stopped.

As if knowing that it had done its job, the big black cannon cracked all over, and began to fall apart.

The bandits had no more hesitation. They all charged in through the open gate, led by their bandit chief, Ronold Wolf.
