It's two hours before midnight, 10:00 to be exact.
She was able to finish six blood transfusion today, she started early at 6 in the morning. She practically spends the rest of her day inside the clinic, taking her meals between breaks and talking to her mother in the canteen. She was tempted to visit her father in the core, she changed her mind at the last minute, she rescheduled her visit to her father tomorrow.
She looked at her hands...then she remembered that comatose woman in the hospital, Suzanne the wife of Aston. How is she doing nowadays? Did she fully awakened from the coma? What happened to Aston's sister and the kids? She remembered that Aston is the breadwinner of the family. Who's going to earn a living for the family now that Aston is in the prison, serving jail time?
She will drop a visit tonight in Aston's home and see how Emma and the kids were doing.
But she will visit Suzanne in the hospital first and see her progress.
Jessy glanced at the frail-looking vampire on the other bed that was currently receiving her blood.
He was not looking at Jessy, he was looking at the doctor. "Doc, can you please prioritize my wife next? She's very sick," he said.
The doctor looked at the guy. "Okay, no problem, I will put her name first on the list for tomorrow's schedule..."
The guy's face turned sad. "I am afraid she can no longer last until tomorrow, Doc. She fainted a lot and she looks very pale," he explained in trembling voice, deep concern for his wife's worsening condition was etched on his face.
Jessy and the doctor looked at each other.
She cleared her throat. "It's okay Doc. I think I still can accommodate...one more for tonight, I want to save his wife, if we will wait for tomorrow she might die," Jessy said.
The doctor was shaking his head. "B-but we haven't tried 7 blood transfusion within 24 hours. I am afraid it might harm your body, too much blood had already been taken from your body today, I don't think you're still gonna be okay if we proceed with it. You might suffer ill health and extreme weakness if we proceed with the 7th blood transfusion..."
"Let's just try it Doc, we will stop right away if I can no longer take it. If I start feeling weakness anywhere in my body I will let you know, there is no harm in trying," she tried to convince him.
The physician stared hard at Jessy...confusion marred his face.
Ten minutes later.
Done with the blood transfusion, the guy exited the clinic and mouthed a big thank you to Jessy before he closed the door behind him, she smiled at the guy.
"Are you sure you will push through with the 7th blood transfusion, Jess?" the doctor asked again and sighed.
Jessy nodded her head. "I already decided, Doc. Let the sick woman in so that we can finish the blood transfusion and retire for the night."
"I will...but you have to promise me that this is the first and the last," the doctor said.
Jessy smiled. "Of course, we normally do 4 to 5 per day and then it's seldom we do a total of six transfusions in one day. Today is different though, we are saving a life, it's emergency!"
"Okay," the doctor finally yielded to Jessy's demand. He left the room to fetch the woman waiting in the next room.
When he returned, two attendants were helping the very sick woman into the bed. The woman can barely open her eyes, she looks so pale, like a white paper, but her chest is still moving, she's still breathing.
The doctor immediately attached the IV drips on the two women.
The attendants stayed inside the room on standby mode, ready...if anything happens. They can see the blood traveling from Jessy's arms through the transparent IV drips tube carrying the blood into the sick woman's arm.
Jessy was opening and closing her right hand so that the flow of her blood will travel faster to the woman.
The doctor and the two attendants were looking intensely at the woman, while the distraught husband was outside looking through the gla.s.s window, the extreme worry in his eyes is painful to look at.
Fifteen minutes later.
Jessy stared at the woman, fearing for the worst.
The woman's eyes were still closed, she's still breathing though.
Twenty-five minutes later...
Gradually the woman's color started to change...from white to pinkish...Jessy's blood was now circulating inside the blood vessel of the woman...supplying and replenishing her body with fresh blood.
Thirty minutes later...the woman finally opened her eyes and a faint smile appeared on her lips while looking at the doctor.
"How are you feeling now, Agnes? Are you feeling okay?" asked the doctor.
The woman nodded her head. "Yes. Surprisingly...I'm feeling good now, Doc. I'd never felt so good until today, the last few weeks is h.e.l.l for me, I fainted a lot and my body is very weak," she said, she looked at Jessy. " Thank you so much, young lady, your blood saves my life. I'm so weak earlier I think I'm gonna die. But the moment your blood entered my body, suddenly I feel alive! Your blood is indeed miraculous. I will be forever grateful to you for saving my life," the woman smiled brightly.
Jessy smiled with gladness feeling grateful that the woman looks better now compared earlier.
The doctor went to Jessy's side. "How about you, Jess? Are you okay?"
"Yes I'm alright," she responded.
"Good, watching you and that woman is scary, I don't know who will surrender first," the doctor jokingly said.
Jessy smiled at the doctor's joke.
Ten minutes later, the blood transfusion was successful. The woman was saved and Jessy informed the doctor that she feels the same, she felt nothing wrong on her body, but she won't push herself this far again unless it's a matter of life and death situation. She lowered her feet into the ground and steps into her slippers. "I'm going to my room now and sleep, Doc," she said.
The doctor was observing Jessy, feeling at ease and relieved that the young woman was looking fine as always.
"Good night, Doc! See you tomorrow!" she said.
"Bye, Jess! Good night!" the doctor replied.
Jessy opened the door and steps into the hallway. She walked in the direction of her room. No more time left to venture outside the Facility. Besides, she was feeling sleepy, yawning she covered her mouth with her hands.
She finally reached her room, she opened it and steps inside and closed the door behind her.
She walked towards her bed...no longer bothering to change into her pajama. She closed her eyes and put herself to sleep.
