The more Ye Chen thought about it, the more scared he became. For the first few missions, he had finished the missions just on the brink of time. What would have happened if he had failed to finish them!?
Ren Jing would have died without rhyme or reason!
Ye Chen was so scared that he spoke incoherently, “Why didn’t you tell me sooner!?”
Death System said, “If I did, Ren Jing would’ve probably died earlier.”
At first, let alone liking Ren Jing, Ye Chen simply ‘disliked’ him. If Death System had frankly told him that the life points he was to obtain were for Ren Jing, Ye Chen probably wouldn’t have been that dedicated anymore. He would probably even feel forced to do it.
So Death System told a lie and said that the life points were for Ye Chen himself. If it dropped into zero, Ye Chen would die.
Under ordinary logic, everyone would cherish their life more than anything else. Above all, he had died once, so he would try his best to complete the missions—even if they were against his conscience.
This was how things were. From the beginning until now, Ye Chen had accomplished all of the missions perfectly, never giving up on any of them.
After thinking about it carefully, Ye Chen was astounded. He said to Death System with all of his sincerity, “Thank you.”
Death System was somewhat embarra.s.sed. “W-What are you thanking me for? Just call me father and this father would be pleased.”
Ye Chen, “…”
He paused for a while before he recalled one more thing. “How did I get revived for the second time…” Could it be that Ren Jing had saved him again?
Death System, “You won’t die as long as I exist.”
Ye Chen didn’t quite understand.
Death System said, “Once the contract was established, I have the duty to ensure the safety of your life. You used four life points that time.” At that time, Death System had thought of deducting one more life point in order to guard against the unexpected. It ‘stretched the string tightly’ for Ye Chen in advance. If by any chance the mission couldn’t be completed someday, Ren Jing would still have one life point as a safeguard.
Ye Chen wasn’t aware of its intention. He promptly questioned, “Then, the life points I gave to Grandpa and Mother are…”
Death System said, “One life point will be deducted daily in order to extend Ren Jing’s life. It will be deducted at the time you were reborn, at 9:55 in the morning. Ren Jing will be fine as long as it doesn’t drop to zero. The extra life points could be stored up to be used as a replacement of the missions, or they could also be used for your loved ones.”
Ye Chen let out a sigh of relief. He said again, “Thank you.” After all, the life points he used for Grandpa and Mother could be said to be the benefits from Death System.
Who would have imagined that Death System would say, “No need to thank me. The missions aren’t something I could just release whenever I want to.”
It paused for a while before continuing, “In the end, it’s thanks to Ren Jing who is always thinking about you all the time.”
Ye Chen was shocked.
Death System let out a sigh. “The missions originated from Ren Jing’s deepest subconscious. When he missed you and this desire reached its peak, the mission will take shape… Right, I could then help him process his thoughts and release them as missions. Most of all, the random missions are basically generated according to his wishes. Therefore, the reason you could save so many life points is because Ren Jing is thinking of you at all times.”
In other words, Ye Chen’s families’ health was because Ren Jing loved him so much.
Ye Chen immediately teared up. How could there be such a nice Ren Jing?
He must have saved the whole universe in his previous life that he was able to meet Ren Jing in this life!
Death System said, “That’s why you need not to be worried. Just work hard at doing the missions and keep saving the life points. That way, your lover and family’s health will already be in your hands.”
Ye Chen was completely filled with motivation now. Not to mention anything else, as long as he recalled that the life points were for extending Ren Jing’s life, he would never miss even a single mission!
Death System added, “By the way, you have to do your best to make Ren Jing always love you and keep loving you more. That way, the missions will be constantly generated.”
Ye Chen had not the slightest doubt about Ren Jing’s love towards him. He thought of another thing and asked, “If Ren Jing doesn’t love me anymore, then the missions will stop being generated?”
Death System replied resolutely, “Yes.”
Ye Chen’s eyes widened. “Then he will die!?”
Death System, “That’s right. I had cautioned Ren Jing on this, too.”
At that time, Ren Jing had laughed and said very calmly, “Just let him die, then.” He said ‘him’—referring to the version of himself who didn’t love Ye Chen.
Ye Chen felt like crying again.
Death System, “Alright, this is how things are, don’t cry anymore. If you feel moved, then do your best at completing the missions, don’t be picky and dawdle around anymore. If he wants a kiss then you should immediately kiss him, if he wants a hug then immediately hug him, if he wants to lift you up high then you have to jump up high by yourself. You get it?”
Ye Chen’s whole heart was filled with Ren Jing, he couldn’t hear Death System’s trash talk at all.
Death System imagined these energetically. “Since you two have done it, won’t the missions start to have a little more of an adult vibe from now on?”
Ye Chen’s brain circuits weren’t in line with Death System’s. He recalled one more thing. “Last time when Ren Jing caught a cold—was it because his subconscious mind didn’t want to infect me with the cold, and thus there weren’t any missions for a few continuous days?”
Death System replied, “That’s right. Which is why you must create a sense of presence before Ren Jing everyday and always pay attention to his conditions. Don’t let this kind of accident happen again.”
Ye Chen clenched his fist. “It will never happen again!”
Noticing that it had said enough, Death System said, “Now you’ll be given a choice.”
Ye Chen was stunned. “Huh?”
Death System, “Regarding the truth, you could choose whether to share it or not with Ren Jing.”
Ye Chen was stupefied. “But I’ve told him everything about you.”
Death System said, “As long as the memory is related to me, they’re part of the section which could be erased.”
Ye Chen understood now—Although he had told Ren Jing about it, Death System could erase that memory.
Death System said again, “I suggest you choose not to share it. Even though being honest is the right thing to do, some things are better left unsaid.”
Ye Chen understood what Death System meant.
If he told Ren Jing all these things, it wouldn’t make Ren Jing happy at all. That was because everything Ye Chen would do might only become ‘missions’ in Ren Jing’s eyes from that time on; Ye Chen’s love would also become less pure to Ren Jing: Was Ye Chen truly in love with him? Or did Ye Chen ‘love’ him out of guilt and compensation?
Ren Jing deserved a happier life.
Making Ren Jing happy for the rest of his life was something that Ye Chen would do in this lifetime!
Ye Chen made his mind up. “Don’t share it.”
Death System’s voice briskly resounded, “I’ll begin to erase the memory.”
Ye Chen opened his eyes and saw Ren Jing before him.
Ren Jing blinked as he asked, “What do you want to tell me?”
Ye Chen hugged him tightly, then kissed him pa.s.sionately a few times.
Ren Jing was being kissed by him so many times that the corner of his eyes were slightly crinkled. His voice was as gentle as the sea when he said, “Chen Chen…”
The surging love filling his chest was almost overflowing. He opened his mouth and said, “What I want to tell you is…”
“I love you, I love you, I love you!” Ye Chen’s eyes were gleaming as he said, “Ren Jing, let’s get married!”
Ren Jing’s whole body froze.
After realizing what he had said, Ye Chen’s scrambled mind finally calmed down. He stammered, “Uhm, I’m saying that…I…”
Before he had the chance to finish his words, Ren Jing had already held his head and kissed him pa.s.sionately.
Ye Chen was very embarra.s.sed, but his heart felt very warm, too. He returned the kiss clumsily. This was obviously a great temptation to Ren Jing. Eventually, the two were ‘living in harmony’ in broad daylight just like this.
Afterwards, Ye Chen had practically turned into a nougat, being particularly sticky. He said to Ren Jing, “We’ll always have to be together everyday from now on!”
Ren Jing smiled. “Mn.”
Ye Chen told him again, “Even if we catch a cold or get ill, we’ll still stick together!”
Ren Jing felt incredibly sweet in his heart. “Alright.”
Ye Chen said, “I could help you if you’re busy!”
Ren Jing had a smile all over his face as he looked at Ye Chen.
After considering his own capabilities, Ye Chen reluctantly changed his words, “E-Even if I couldn’t help you, I could stay by your side.”
Ren Jing said, “You would be helping me as long as you’re by my side.”
Ye Chen thought for a while then couldn’t help but added, “Even if we’ll see each other everyday, you…”
It’s so shameful I can’t say it out! But this was related to the life points and thus, Ren Jing’s life—hence he summoned up his courage and said, “Even if we’ll see each other everyday, you have to always think of me.”
I said it, ahhh! He was surprised by his own shamelessness.
But certainly… Hearing Ye Chen’s words, Ren Jing was bursting with joy. His mind was stuffed with: Chen Chen is acting like a spoiled child, Chen Chen is so cute, Chen Chen is comforting me…
Ye Chen was so embarra.s.sed that his whole face had turned red. Still, he urged, “Is that okay with you?”
“Okay!” Ren Jing’s heart was going to melt soon as he said, “I’ll think of you all the time.”
Ye Chen, “You have to always keep me in your mind…”
“Mn, always!”
Ye Chen felt a bit relieved now. Nevertheless, he was quite shocked by his own totally shameless behavior that he couldn’t quite lift his head up.
Death System couldn’t keep watching the two either. They had been so lovey-dovey to each other before, and now…the sweetness had been multiplied by 10086 times, it had practically become infinite!
The next day after they were stuck to each other all the time, Ye Chen talked to his mother over the phone like always.
However, Queen Mother who usually prattled sweetly on the phone suddenly changed the topic. She came straight to the point. “What’s going on with you and Ren Jing?”
Ye Chen was struck dumb.
Between her idol and her son, the latter was obviously the utmost priority. Queen Mother grinded her teeth as she asked, “Didn’t you dislike Ren Jing the most?”
Ye Chen opened his mouth. A lot of words were stuck at the corner of his mouth…
He actually felt very nervous at first, but the nervousness was suddenly gone with the wind.
Ye Chen said, “Mom, have you returned home with dad? Let’s meet and talk.”
The author has something to say:
What do you mean by ‘heart-wrenching’? Isn’t the story bursting with sweetness instead~
