Chapter 88: Bounty Hunter
Translator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios
“Dead?” The remaining four bounty hunters couldn’t help swallow their saliva.
The Half-Elf with a scar had been scared stiff and muttered, “Is that the Lord of the City of Dawn? Is he that powerful?”
“This is bad. If he can kill the tough-skinned Dragon Follower that easily, he can kill us too!” The mysterious and quiet man in black robe decided not to fight. Even though he was skilled in close-combat, he was not a professional.
The human warrior burning with black flames released some battle energy from his body. He snorted and his face was full of disdain. However, his eyes showed wariness.
Only the pale Orc glared viciously at William as though he wanted to kill William.
But William’s next words cause them to have a break down.
“Dark half-elf Doron, dark warlock Casa, devil warrior Adolf and pale Orc… Auston. Who instigated all of you to come to my city?”
William wielded both his longsword and shortsword. He took one step at a time as he walked towards them. He looked very intimidating.
He was clad in his golden Thunder equipment set that was surging with thunder battle energy. Electric arcs, the nemesis of dark creatures, discharged continuously from the set.
His two dark-gold weapons looked brilliant, the Sword of Thunder shining even more.
The dark green Poisonous Short Sword was filled with strange light rays. It gave the impression of a poisonous snake that was about to strike.
The four of them shivered. This was too scary, their foe’s equipment was powerful. But what scared them most was that he knew their names. To them, it was very terrifying…
Why did they become bounty hunters?
Were they not doing it to increase their capability?
But when they peeked at William…
“His entire armor is filled with the stench of golden dust. How disgusting!”
“Humph, I hate this kind of enemy!” Even though he wielded a dark-gold weapon, he had a terrible armor. He backed up again and frankly said, “I’ll let off the City of Dawn today for your sake. Don’t you dare to antagonize us, if you do, we’ll… cough… you’ll be dead!”
The other bounty hunters nodded in agreement, and all of them vanished swiftly into the forest.
William became very relieved at the sight of them four of them gone. He was just bluffing them. If they had actually attacked him, he might not have been able to defeat them.
He turned his head to look at Lancelot. “They’re gone. Can you stand up by yourself?”
“Yes!” The kneeling Lancelot nodded and stood up immediately…
But immediately,
Lancelot blacked out.
This Temple Knight who was trained in battle energy was suffering from lack of blood in his brain.
He once again fell unconscious.
“Gosh! Now I have to revive him.”
William grabbed Lancelot’s elbow with his right hand while he dragged the Dragon Follower with his left hand. He brought both of them into the city.
[Mission Completed: You killed the bounty hunter ‘Crazy Dragon Follower’]
[Mission Completion: 73%]
[Reward: You will obtain his warm body]
[Reward: 56300 experience]
[Prompt: Crazy Dragon Follower is a fugitive. You may choose to exchange him for a reward.]
“Killing an epic NPC who was beyond my level yielded a lot of experience points. I do not need gold coins. Exchange his head for a reward, not worth it. The scales on him will be more useful…” William glanced at the Dragon Follower. It was obvious that the Dragon Follower was a r.e.t.a.r.d.
Why was that?
There were many ways Dragon Followers were created.
The most stable method was the usage of magic formation by mages to bathe the NPC in dragon blood. It did not have many side effects and could preserve human DNA and the battle energy. There was also a chance of obtaining the Dragon’s Whisper.
It was simple.
This kind of Dragon Follower was only a level lower than the Dragon Speaker.
There were stringent criteria and limits placed on both the mage and the warrior who would be immersed in the dragon blood. The Dragon’s Whisper gained from this process would not be that powerful.
The second method involved the purification of the dragon blood by a mage. The purified blood would be then consumed by a person. It would allow the person to possess the powerful body of a Dragon Follower. Scales might even grow on the body. The battle energy of the person was preserved in the process.
As for the third method…
It was this kind of a lucky fool.
He must have bathed in dragon blood and drank a few sips. Hence, his body DNA was broken after being invaded by the dragon blood. Fortunately, he had strong willpower and endured a painful transformation. However, he became r.e.t.a.r.ded as a result.
He became a monster with dragon scales…
For some reason.
The city gate was already open.
A group of Temple Knights from the Temple of Light came running out of the city.
A group of soldiers who belonged to the City of Dawn also followed closely behind to provide support.
As the incident had occurred so close to the City of Dawn, it was considered a threat.
But before they managed to travel far, many people saw a figure walking towards the city gates. The two Temple Knights who had fled earlier again became struck with shock. They wanted to unsheathe their swords, but a middle-aged Knight stopped them.
The surprised Temple Messenger quickly bowed and said, “My Lord, why are you outside the city?”
“I couldn’t sleep so I was taking a walk. But in the process, I managed to save a person and killed a bounty hunter. But I sure didn’t expect to encounter so many middle-level bounty hunters nearby…” William exhaled nonchalantly. He started feeling sleepy after taking a walk.
“Carry him and take him away. Make haste. Pastor… pastor…” The middle-aged knight quickly gave his orders. He was the Temple Messenger from the City of Dawn. His profession was a Temple Knight.
“Thank you, my Lord, for saving us!” The two fleeing knights quickly expressed their grat.i.tude.
That was right…
Bounty hunters had many different levels. Every level was categorized into 1~9 stars.
The five bounty hunters belonged to the middle level with seven stars. They were extremely powerful.
They were the only few bounty hunters at the southeastern corner of the legendary continent. However, they would become nine-stars bounty hunters after the open beta testing of the game.
The knights were letting their imagination run wild. The five bounty hunters could kill many Temple Knights, but one of them was killed by the Lord personally. And the remaining four bounty hunters fled in fear. It served as a testament of the Lord’s power.
“The Lord’s power… is incredible.” The Temple Messenger was grateful to William for saving them.
Since he had to treat the wounded, he did not waste any more time and left quickly.
William nodded nonchalantly and saw Lautner and the rest approaching in a haste. He dismissed the Temple Knights and told them to continue the discussion tomorrow.
What about Lancelot?
He was just saving Lancelot due to the circ.u.mstances.
He did not have any dreams about Lancelot being his follower…
Because Lancelot was a devout follower of the Temple of Light, and he honored the standards of a knight.
He could only create a good relationship with Lancelot. In the future, he might need his help.
But he had to make sure that the help requested did not go against the standards of a knight.
Otherwise, Lancelot would not accede to such a request, and their relationship might become sour instead.
“What had these Temple Knights been doing? Why did so many casualties happen?” William pondered over it. Perhaps, there was something happening nearby that he was not aware of.
