Every scratch seemed to hurt Haeckel even more. Then, they rammed the frame so hard, it got dented. As if the zombies were not contented with the damage they have done, they overturned the car. It was a Land Rover Series III! A cla.s.sic car! They did all this just to catch their black and blue prey.
(d.a.m.n it.)
It had been a long, long time since he had felt the feeling of anger. He rarely lost his cool and the last time he lost it was when his Volkswagen was b.u.mped by his colleague.
Haeckel dropped his backpack and climbed to the roof of a random SUV. He took his two pistols from their holster and started shooting at the zombies without caring if his car was. .h.i.t.
A few minutes later, all zombies have been killed by him. He felt somewhat better but if only he could also kill the cat, his anger would subside more. He looked at the overturned car and searched for the main culprit, killing intent could be seen flashing from his eyes.
"What did you do that for?" Haeckel was vexed at the cat for bringing him another trouble. It was a good thing that he had the capacity to kill those zombies. But what if the cat brought more trouble than he would be able to handle? What if the cat brought one of those mutant beasts that was in his dreams?
"They p.i.s.sed me off, meow." The 'cat' snarled
"Well, there was actually something that I felt related to my abilities, meow." The 'cat' continued.
Haeckel looked at the cat and had quickly erased the idea of abandoning the 'cat.'
"I went to that building over there and encountered these trash. Follow me, meow." The cat walked towards the direction of a hospital.
"You got a name?" Haeckel asked while they were walking.
"Just call me your boss or something." The cat disregarded the question and tried to act aloof.
(Boss my a.s.s.) Haeckel pondered a bit and gave the cat a name."Alright I'm gonna call you Merda."
"Hm. I'm cool with that name." Merda held its head up. Unknown to him, this actually meant 's.h.i.t' in Italian.
They have now reached the small hospital's location. Merda said that the feeling he got came from inside. However, they weren't so keen to enter the hospital since it was surely infested by zombies. Outside the hospital, there were only two zombies. The other zombies were attracted by Merda earlier that's why there were just a few outside the hospital. With an average of three shots each, Haeckel had killed the zombies. He felt that he was getting used to pulling the trigger and his marksmanship had increased.
Haeckel and Merda went inside the hospital. He held a gun just like a police would. He opened the door just enough for the cat to go in. He wanted the cat to be the bait.
"Go first."
"But I have nothing to protect myself." Merda answered.
Haeckel glared at the annoying cat for a second and kicked it inside. The hospital was empty. There were movable beds in the hallway but there was no blood and no zombies in sight.
"Is it near?" Haeckel whispered. The cat did not answer but increased its speed instead. Haeckel also ran to catch up with the cat. The man and the cat had now reached the payment area.
"It's near." The cat finally said something.
At the same time, a zombie shrieked.
It was a zombie inside the reception counter. This zombie was wearing a nurse's outfit which meant that she was a nurse but who cares she's dead anyway. Its shriek was different from the usual zombies which made Haeckel's hair stand up.
"Oops. That was a bad idea." Haeckel knew it was his fault for being impulsive.
Looking at his surroundings, he saw a bathroom to his left. Without caring if it was dangerous inside, he entered and shut the door.
It was a male's bathroom that's why it smelled a bit awful. The bathroom had five cubicles and each one of them was open except for one.
Halfway inside, he paused, turned around, aimed his two pistol at the door and waited for those sc.u.mbags to enter. The door was narrow which would hinder the advance of the zombies such that only one can pa.s.s through at a time.
A few seconds later, the zombie nurse slammed the door open. It opened its b.l.o.o.d.y mouth and shrieked once m
ore. Behind this zombie was a couple more zombies who had roared like the normal ones. Without further ado, Haeckel pulled the triggers.
Pew. Pew. Pew.
The sound was similar to the laser blasters in the movie Star Wars but instead of red light, the plasma projectiles emitted green light.
The first shot found its way directly in the middle of the zombie nurse's eyes. The second shot found its way to the torso of the zombie behind it. Sometimes, it would take just a bullet to take down a zombie. Sometimes, two bullets but it never reached three.
The narrow s.p.a.ce limited the zombie's movements and made his shots more accurate. Just as he had shot the last zombie, his pistol had overheated. It would still take a minute before another charge could load. However, the zombie continued to move. Looking closely, the energy projectile had only grazed its ears.
Haeckel dropped his guns and grabbed a mop. He knew that with his physique, he could never overpower the zombie but he still clung onto hope. The zombie roared and lunged at him. At the same time, a closed cubicle opened abruptly and a man with his own mop jumped out.
He roared at the zombie and slammed his mop down on the zombie's head. The mop split into two because of the force of the smash. He glimpsed for a while at Haeckel before shouting "Run!"
Haeckel was a good man. Although he was cold and aloof, he did not have it in his heart to do what is morally evil. With a mop in his hand, he smashed it onto the zombie's head. Unlike with the other man, his mop did not snap into two and his attack barely affected the zombie.
"Try to hold it down!" Haeckel shouted. He wanted to get the broken mop and use its sharp edge to pierce the zombie's head. The man followed his order and punched the zombie on its face.
Bam
Unexpectedly, the zombie's head turned 180 degrees. It moved one step forward before it fell on its knees and collapsed. However, the mad look on its face was still there as it chattered its teeth and growled lowly.
Surprise could be seen in the man's eyes as he stared at his fist. The man was plump and was wearing a janitor's uniform. He was neither young nor old maybe around 40 years old. He had clear face and had laugh lines and his overall demeanor looked like he could be trusted.

He did not speak for a long time as he looked alternately at the zombie and his fist.
"Thank you. I am Ernst Haeckel." Haeckel patted the man on his shoulder.
"My - My name is Chouji." The man stammered. Haeckel looked around and didn't see Merda but it was fine.
"Are all of these real?" Chouji asked.
"Seems so." Haeckel shrugged and picked up his guns. "Were you that strong all along?"
"No. I don't know. What's happening?"
"I also don't know. How are you alive?" Haeckel asked.
"The hospital had admitted patients which were running wild, biting people. After a while, more those who were bit also ran around to bite people. I was so scared that I hid inside the bathroom."
"A few hours later, there was a voice inside my saying weird things like Status and Shop. I left the bathroom for a while to see what was happening but I came back inside."
"Those monsters were feasting on someone. I ran back and hid in this cubicle waiting for the military to come. Then, you came." The fat man reiterated his story as fast as he could.
"I also do not know a lot of things to be honest. Do you have anywhere to go?" Haeckel asked.
Chouji scratched his head before shaking his head to say no.
"Then come with me."
Haeckel left the bathroom filled with corpses, followed by the fat Chouji. The thin and the fat man slowly and quietly crept their way in the insides of the hospital.
"Hey." Suddenly, Merda popped out of nowhere.
